2. NY STATE Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAA) - Employer Contribution is Expiring
With the expiration of the collective bargaining agreements on April 1, 2003 (July 1 for UUP), the Employer Contribution will no longer be available for employees who decide to enroll in the DCAA for the 2003 Plan Year due to a life status change. Employees who are currently enrolled are not affected. Employees returning from a leave of absence, registering school-age children for summer day camp, or experiencing any other eligible change in status before April 1, 2003 (July 1 for UUP) who submit a form to enroll by April 1st (July 1st for UUP) will still receive the Employer Contribution. Although the Employer Contribution will no longer be available after April 1st (July 1st for UUP), the DCAA program, will continue through 2003. Please call the hotline at 1-800-358-7202 (and press 2) or visit http//www.flexspend.state.ny.us to learn the benefits of the DCAA.

3. Notice to Empire Plan enrollees (state employees): Deadline to file major medical claims
Reminder: March 31, 2003 is the deadline to file your 2002 major medical claims with United Healthcare Service Corp. and Cigna/Express Scripts. 4. Special Paper Promotion Stock Up and Save on Select Copy Paper
The Procurement Office in conjunction with Staples has arranged a Special Promotion on select copy paper for the next two months. The following copy paper items will be temporarily reduced from February 3, 2003 to March 31, 2003 with a discount of $2.50 per carton or $.25 per ream. Stock up and take advantage of these limited time savings. Staples Red Box copy paper item # 135855 is now $2.32/rm and # 135848 is $23.20/ctn. 7. Computer Training Advanced Microsoft Excel Module I & II
These courses focus on specific functions available in the program and is particularly useful for accountants and budget managers.
Module I (NCE314.1)- Section C: Tu-Th, 6:00-9:00 pm, March 25 and 27, 2003. This special topics course covers graphing and advanced functions.

The USB Cat Network works to humanely trap, neuter, vaccinate, and care for the many feral cats that live on campus. Photoshop, the most powerful image editing software on the market. Whether you want to learn how to prepare photographs for offset printing or just want to create good-looking scans for your personal homepage, a working knowledge of Photoshop is essential. Topics covered will include the Photoshop work area, image basics, working with selections, working with layers, painting, masks, channels, creating special effects, basic pen tool techniques and creating images for electronic publishing. We will be working in the Windows environment. The required textbook addresses both Macintosh and Windows users. Cost of text is not included in the course fee.

Macromedia Flash is the professional standard for producing high-impact Web experiences. The focus is on creating animation for the World Wide Web. This course will guide students through the fundamentals of animation such as Flash drawing, story boarding, creating layers, key framing, character animation, and creating interactive animation. Mastering the use of these advanced features is considered the industry standard for web animators. By the end of the course, students will have a thorough understanding of Flash basics, plus the know-how to build Flash projects incorporating sound, interactivity, and engaging animations.

30. Nineteenth Annual Student Poetry Contest for Secondary School Students of Italian
Friday, March 21, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Nineteenth Annual Student Poetry Contest sponsored collaboratively by the LI Chapter, American Association of Teachers of Italian, and Stony Brook University's Center for Italian Studies and Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education.
The competition/program consists of recitations and original poems by students of Italian in the secondary schools followed by award ceremonies.

32. Stress Management
The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be presenting a series of three workshops on stress management. These workshops focus on meditation as a core experience for stress management. The group is introduced to several forms of meditation including breathing techniques, the stress relaxation response, mindfulness meditation, walking meditations, heart-centered meditations and others.
Other aspects of stress management discussed are sound nutrition, movement, sleep practices, time management and prioritization, awareness of thought patterns and related emotions.
Workshop dates are Wednesdays, April 2, 7, and 16 between 5:30 and 6:45 pm at 33 Research Way, East Setauket, NY.

Former Stony Brook University cross country standout Jenny Payne was awarded a scholarship from the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, to be used for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at the university of her choice. The NCAA awards only 58 scholarships to 29 men and 29 women who participated in fall sports. Payne was one of only 13 honorees who competed at the Division I level, and she becomes the first Stony Brook athlete to receive the honor since the university joined the ranks of Division I.

38. Clinic, Free Seawolves Bobblehead To Highlight April 12 Lacrosse Game
The men's lacrosse team will battle America East rival Albany Great Danes on Saturday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. underneath the lights at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The game is the second half of a doubleheader as the first-year women's program will take on Binghamton at 3:30 p.m.
The men's lacrosse team will host the Times Beacon Record clinic for players ages 5-13. The clinic will begin at 12:00 p.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. Cost for the clinic and game is just $5 per person. Call 632.9556 to register for the clinic.

45. Information Technology Networking Fundamentals (ITNF) Section I starts March 25, 2003 Section J starts April 26, 2003
Students learn about PC hardware and system maintenance procedures. Configuration settings upgrading systems, installing printers and monitors, removing and replacing components, and troubleshooting are covered. Students will also learn installation procedures; deal with legacy systems; manage peripheral devices. In hands-on exercises, students install Windows operating systems, use the FDISK utility, perform backups, manage system files, configure networks, configure Internet access, and troubleshoot operating system errors. Will include Introduction to computer networking from local-area network to wide-area network technology.
Course length, 105 hours, Certification achieved at the conclusion of passing exams: A+ Computer Technician, Net+ Network Technician.

49. MRI Study of Flow in the Brain and Spine
Volunteers are needed to participate in an MRI study to investigate new methods for imaging flow patterns of blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spine. The goal of the study is understanding flow patterns in healthy individuals in order to compare these results with the abnormal flow patterns seen in individuals with diseases such as hydrocephalus and spinal cysts. For the current phase of studies, we are seeking healthy individuals with no previous history of head or spinal trauma, arachnoid or spinal cysts, hydrocephalus, brain tumors or any contraindication for an MRI exam.
The study will involve 1 hour of your time and be completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. There will be no monetary compensation for this study.
