1. What Programs Are You Planning For The Year Of Community
Leadership?

The 2001-02 Academic Year has been designated as the YEAR OF
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP by President Kenny. The planning committee
for this year's theme would like to hear about any programs,
events, initiatives, etc. with a leadership theme that exist or
are being planned in your department, office, or area. Perhaps
we can help you advertise your event or find creative ways to
collaborate and work with you to make it an even greater success.
For more information please contact Lisa Montgomery, Office of
Student Affairs, by phone or email (notes).

2. Technology In Education

The Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education (CEIE) will
be sponsoring with Eastern Suffolk BOCES' Model Schools Program,
the "Second Annual Celebration of Technology in Education." The
purpose of this school-university outreach event is to celebrate
how instructional technology can support student learning.
Teachers and students from Long Island schools will share
successful approaches which they use daily in their K-12
classrooms. This event, to be attended by teachers, students,
parents, school administrators and the public, is scheduled for
Thursday, January 10, 2002 from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in the
Sports Complex.

3. Teaching Technology - Using On-line courseware (Blackboard) in
your classes and/or departments.

Blackboard is a web-based course management system that many
instructors are using in their classrooms. This Fall, some
Academic Departments began to use Blackboard as a means of
communicating with their majors/minors.

During January, Instructional Computing will be offering various
blackboard workshops from What is Blackboard to Creating Quizzes
with Blackboard.

In addition, there will be a 2 hour "Blackboard in a Nutshell",
on Wednesday January 9th from 6-8pm, which is geared toward
Adjunct faculty who are usually not on campus during the day.

Please register on-line
at:
http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Ic/Classes/

Classes that have less than 4 people registered, will be
cancelled 1 day prior to the scheduled class.

For more information regarding the various resources on campus
for teaching with technology, please visit:
