2. West Campus and HSC State/Research Foundation Tuition Waiver Program
State/Research Foundation Fall semester B140W tuition waiver applications for full-time West Campus and HSC employees are available in the Benefits Office. Please call 2-6150 or email Alessandra.White@Stonybrook.edu for an application; indicate your internal zip code and your state or rf employee status. The completed application must be returned to Benefits, Z=0751 on or before July 19, 2002 for consideration.
Separate UUP union waivers for Summer II and Fall semesters are also available. There is no return deadline date for the UUP waiver.

3. CSEA member in need of Leave Donations
John Sassano, a CSEA employee on campus and a spouse of one of our UUP employees, is in need of leave donations due to illness. Any UUP, CSEA, PEF, MC13 or MC06 employee may donate vacation days towards this cause (please note that sick leave accruals may not be donated). Vacation time must be donated in full days and must leave the donor with a minimum balance of 10 days after the donation. Employees who wish to donate may contact Delma at Human Resources, Ext. 26186 or the UUP office at Ext. 26570 to obtain the Leave Donation Form. Completed forms should be sent to Human Resource Services, Leave Donation Program, 390 Admin., Z=0751. Thank you!

4. FREE Cap & Gown rental for Faculty and Staff!
Faculty and Staff holding academic rank are invited to participate in the New Student Convocation formal Processional on September 1st in the Sports Complex Main Arena. All participants are invited to a special Breakfast Robing Reception at 9:00am in the Sports Complex Squash Lounge. The Procession begins promptly at 9:30 and the entire ceremony is expected to finish by 10:15am. Participants are expected to wear academic regalia appropriate to their alma mater, discipline and rank, and will be seated on the stage during the short ceremony. The Opening of School Organizing Committee will pay for rental orders for participants in the Fall 2002 New Student Convocation. Faculty and Staff that need to rent academic attire for this event must place their order with University Bookstore (2-6553) by July 10th.
If you plan to participate in this year's New Student Convocation, please RSVP to Student Affairs at 631-632-6700 by July 10th.

5. Adorable kittens need good homes!
The USB Cat Network works to humanely trap, neuter, vaccinate, and care for the many feral cats that live on campus. Currently, we have several kittens caputured on campus that are friendly and available to good homes. Please contact Anne Moyer (anne.moyer@sunysb.edu) or Nancy Franklin (nancy.franklin@sunysb.edu).
We are also seeking volunteers for many different activities (feeding, trapping, fostering, shopping, building shelters, fund raising, web design, observation, transport) to support our work.

6. Ombuds Office Has A New Home
The University Ombuds Office has moved to Room W0505 in the Melville Library on July 8, 2002. The office is located alongside the zebra path, next door to the Alliance Room, with an external entrance on the southwest corner of the library.

7. Summer Sessions Office Relocation
The Summer Sessions Office has moved to 104 Administration Bldg, next to the Campus Card Office on the first floor. Its campus ZIP code is now 1970. The telephone number remains 2-7790. The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., year-round.

9. Volunteer For Welcome Wagon 2002!
The Division of Campus Residences Invites you to be a part of Welcome Wagon 2002. The Welcome Wagon program is designed to welcome the incoming class of first year students who will move onto campus on Saturday, August 31, 2002 between 9 am and 3 pm. Over 300 student volunteers will welcome the first year students, answer their questions, and assist them in moving their belongings into the residence halls.
We are actively seeking the participation of faculty and staff in this effort. In the past, faculty and staff who have volunteered have been particularly helpful in answering questions and providing information to students, parents, and family members.

10. An investigational study on a medication that may improve your gum disease and your osteopenia
Is it possible that you have osteopenia?
Do your gums bleed when you brush? Have you been told you have gum disease?
Would you like to earn $500
If you are a post-menopausal woman, not taking medications for osteoporosis, The School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is conducting a clinical research project on a medication that may improve your gum disease and your osteopenia. If you are a woman with mild to moderate periodontal disease, early signs of osteoporosis and are between the ages of 45 and 70 you may qualify for this study. 11. Self-Management Course for teenagers with fibromyalgia
A six-session Fibromyalgia Self-Help Course for Teens is being offered, free of charge in Bayhsore. This course is being conducted as a research study for treatment of fibromyalgia in teens. It has been developed as a collaborative effort of the Arthritis Foundation, Schneider Children's Hospital and Stony Brook University. Participants will be instructed in how to reduce pain; how to pace, prioritize and plan for fatigue management; how a positive attitude affects fibromyalgia; how exercise plays a role in feeling better and how you can better communicate with others about fibromyalgia. 12. Need Flexible, Part Time Enrollment In A Summer Program For Your School Age Child? Need Coverage Only Occasionally?
SB Child Care School Age Summer Program now has part time/flexible enrollment options. You choose the days your child will attend, and pay a daily rate of $45.00. Select a minimum of ten days over the summer months (through August 30th) to enroll your Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grader. Open enrollment throughout the summer. 14. Student Health Insurance Plan
The University offers all domestic students (undergrads and graduate students) a basic, reasonably-priced health insurance plan. Enrollments are being taken now through September 30. 16. SAFE KIDS Suffolk fund-raiser
There will be a jewelry sale fund raiser on Monday July 22, 2002 from 9:30 am- 5 pm on level 5 in University Hospital (outside of the cafeteria). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the SAFE KIDS Suffolk Coalition. Please stop by and support SAFE KIDS Suffolk.

18. Clinical trial to determine the effectiveness of a consumer applied product in reducing dental sensitivity
DO YOU HAVE SENSITIVE TEETH?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE $200.00?
The Oral Biology Department of the School of Dental Medicine, at Stony Brook University, is undertaking a study to evaluate a new product for effectiveness in reducing or eliminating pain associated with sensitive teeth.
Subjects should be at least 18 years old, in good health, and should have one or more teeth with any of the following symptoms:
1. Teeth sensitive to hot or cold foods or liquids
2. Teeth sensitive to toothbrushing or touch
3. Teeth sensitive to air
Pain should not be due to cavities.
Subjects selected will receive $200.00 for their participation.

19. Macworld Expo Keynote Address - Steve Jobs CEO Apple
Stony Brook is an official host for the live satellite broadcast of this year's Macworld Expo Keynote address, July 17th, 9:00 a.m. It will take place in Javits Rm 103. The address will cover the latest Apple technology, OS X and third party software.

20. Yoga Classes
A very limited number of openings are available (first come, first served), for an eight-week yoga course beginning Thursday, 7/18/02, in the HSC, School of Health Technology and Management. Classes will begin at 4:30 pm except the last two, 8/29 and 9/5, which will begin at 5:30 pm, and will last approximately 75 minutes. The cost for the eight week session is $40, payable no later than 7/17, and is non-refundable, no exceptions. Please contact Andrea Ishigami for further information at 4-3226.
