4. Laser Eye Surgery (i.e. LASIK) at Stony Brook
The response to the establishment of a LASER REFRACTIVE SURGERY
service at Stony Brook Ophthalmology has been phenomenal. In an
effort to "stream-line" the evaluation process, we have
established a new phone number ((631) 444-4996) dedicated solely
to refractive surgery.
Refractive surgery (i.e. LASIK) can reduce one's dependence on
glasses or contact lenses. The laser can now be used to treat
many forms of near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness
(hyperopia), and astigmatism.
A special discounted rate will be extended to all Stony Brook
students, faculty, staff, and their immediate family members.
If you would like to learn more about LASIK (and other types of
refractive procedures), or to schedule a FREE & INFORMATIVE
consultation with our laser vision specialists, call
(631) 444-4996.

5. Polaroid Stories - A play by Naomi Iizuka - Opens February
28th - Staller Center for the Arts
"Metamorphoses?"the old are whispering their secret tales, while
the young are listening. With the help of Ovid's ancient
stories, Naomi Iizuka has created the world of homeless kids -
kids who live to disappear. Drugs, fear, love, music, sex and
the desire to just simply leave the darkness of the labyrinth,
forces each one of them to finally make a decision about life or
death.
Due to its adult content, Polaroid Stories is recommended for
audience members 14 years and older.
Polaroid Stories opens on Thursday, February 28th at 8 p.m. in
Theatre II, Staller Center.
Other Performances are 8 p.m. March 1, 2, 7, 8, 9th and 2
p.m. matinees on Sunday, March 3 and 10th.
Tickets: $10/general admission/; $8/faculty and
staff; $6/students and seniors. Call the Box Office at 632-ARTS.

6. Update on Laser Eye Surgery at Stony Brook
The response to the establishment of a LASER REFRACTIVE SURGERY
service at Stony Brook Ophthalmology continues to be strong.
Two weeks ago, a new phone number ((631) 444-4996) dedicated
solely to refractive surgery was created.
Our refractive surgery evaluations typically are scheduled on
Friday afternoons. In an effort to further "stream-line" the
evaluation process, and to accommodate our patients' busy
schedules, we have now added additional time for consultations on
Tuesday afternoons.
As always, a special discounted rate will be extended to all
Stony Brook students, faculty, staff, and their immediate family
members.
If you would like to learn more about laser eye surgery or to
schedule a FREE & INFORMATIVE consultation with our laser vision
specialists, call (631) 444-4996.

9. Help Build the Habitat for Humanity Stony Brook House
Homelessness is on the rise on Long Island, but you can help
break the cycle of poverty for a deserving family. Join our
campus community and Habitat for Humanity as we work together to
make a North Bellport family's dream of home ownership come true.
It costs roughly $60,000 in materials and services to build a
house on Long Island. Stony Brook has committed to raising
$40,000; the balance is funded through Habitat for Humanity.
Every department on campus and a variety of student groups are
making plans to raise funds for their designated part of the
house. So, take the Habitat Challenge calling for communities to
eliminate substandard housing in their area within this
generation. Support the Stony Brook House fundraising events and
help us reach our goal. For more information, contact your
department coordinator, or visit our web site on the YOCL page at

27. LASIK "lunch & learn" seminar
Stony Brook Ophthalmology is pleased to announce its first LASIK
"lunch & learn" seminar, which will be held on Friday April 12th
(place & time to be determined).
During this seminar, you will be able to meet our laser vision
team, including Dr. Marc Dinowitz and his refractive coordinator,
Renee Jones.
You will be able to have your questions answered in an informal
setting. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to
experience what LASIK is by way of a short video presentation.
This video nicely illustrates the evaluation process and the
LASIK treatment itself as it "shadows" one of our patients
through the "LASIK experience" at Stony Brook.
We want to accommodate as many people as possible who would like
to have lunch with us and learn about laser eye surgery.
Therefore, we ask that if you are interested, please RSVP with
Renee by calling (631) 444-4996.

35. "Baroque Dance Spectacular" - Baroque Sundays at Three
Concert - March 17, 3:00 pm, Recital Hall, Free!
Baroque Sundays at Three is proud to present a first ever in its
series of early music events at Stony Brook - a concert of
authentic, historical Baroque dance accompanied by a period
instrument dance band. The New York Historical Dance Company with
dancers Dorothy Olsson and Kaspar Mainz will present a program of
French dances from the 17th and 18th centuries with original
costumes and choreography. Included will be the stately pavane,
the lively gigue and passepied, the sensuous and expressive
sarabande, and more. Along with the dancers will be members of
the Stony Brook Baroque Players performing on Baroque violins,
flutes, cello and harpsichord. This is a unique event and you
won't want to miss it!
