1. West Campus and HSC State/Research Foundation Tuition Waiver Program
State/Research Foundation Fall semester B140W tuition waiver applications for full-time West Campus and HSC employees are available in the Benefits Office. Please call 2-6150 or email Alessandra.White@Stonybrook.edu for an application; indicate your internal zip code and your state or rf employee status. The completed application must be returned to Benefits, Z=0751 on or before July 19, 2002 for consideration.
Separate UUP union waivers for Summer II and Fall semesters are also available. There is no return deadline date for the UUP waiver.

2. Issues of Voice and Discourse in the Teaching of Writing....a One-Day Conference - October 5, 2002
"Issues of Voice and Discourse in Teaching College Writing" will be the theme of a one-day conference sponsored by the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stony Brook University, to be held Saturday, October 5, 2002, 9 AM to 5 PM. The keynote speaker will be Peter Elbow. Respondents will be Sondra Perl, Louise Wetherbee Phelps, and Ira Shor.
We invite proposals for panel presentations, individual presentations, or interactive workshops. Suggested topics include the issue of student development of his/her voice in college writing, the challenge of managing competing voices in the researched essay, the use of alternative discourses in representing intellectual work, and the impact of technology on students' texts. The deadline for proposals is June 28, 2002.

3. Babies'& Children's Memorial Garden Fundraiser

4. New Stadium to Open September 14; Season Tickets Now Available For $25.
Stony Brook's brand-new 8,500-seat stadium will open Saturday, September 14 when the football team will battle St. John's at 6:00 p.m.
Season tickets for all five home games start at just $25.

6. Self-Management Course for teenagers with fibromyalgia
A six-session Fibromyalgia Self-Help Course for Teens is being offered, free of charge in Bayhsore. This course is being conducted as a research study for treatment of fibromyalgia in teens. It has been developed as a collaborative effort of the Arthritis Foundation, Schneider Children's Hospital and Stony Brook University. Participants will be instructed in how to reduce pain; how to pace, prioritize and plan for fatigue management; how a positive attitude affects fibromyalgia; how exercise plays a role in feeling better and how you can better communicate with others about fibromyalgia. 7. Study of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
If you are 18-60 years of age and have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), you are invited to participate in a study funded by the National Institute of Health to learn about the relationships between activity, fatigue, and stress in CFS. 9. Laser Eye Sugery Seminar at Stony Brook
Stony Brook Ophthalmology will be offering two free educational seminars regarding laser vision correction. These sessions will be held at Tech Park on June 18th & June 26th starting at 7PM.
Dr. Marc Dinowitz, who is the cornea and refractive eye surgeon in the Dept of Ophthalmology, will be conducting these informal seminars.

10. Looking For A Positive And Convenient Summer Experience For Your Kindergarten, 1st Or 2nd Grader? SBCCSI's On Campus Program.
Stony Brook Child Care Services (SBCCSI) is offering a summer program for children who have completed kindergarten, first and second grade. The lead teacher is a certified NYS elementary school teacher and will offer a balance of individual / group, indoor/ outdoor, active / quiet play, art, music, science, language, math activities and field trips celebrating summer.
The program runs Monday thru Friday from 8 am - 6pm. Parents can sign up for 6,7,8,9 or 10 weeks. The choice of which weeks is up to parents. Priority and a 10% discount is given to University, Hospital and HSC families. For more information call 632 6930.

11. Summer Camp at Stony Brook June 24 - August 16
The Summer Camp at Stony Brook is back for its third exciting year. The Camp combines a unique twist of educational activities and athletics for children between the ages of 5 -12. 12. Science Exploration Camp
This program is for students entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in September of 2002. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis; we will accept a maximum of 24 students per session. The academic program will complement the students' science curriculum at school and challenge them to think, investigate, and experiment. Each program will be laboratory-based, but will involve reading, computer searching, writing and group work. Students participating in these programs should be interested in science, inquisitive, and willing to work hard to learn something new! If you are a post-menopausal woman, not taking medications for osteoporosis, The School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is conducting a clinical research project on a medication that may improve your gum disease and your osteopenia. If you are a woman with mild to moderate periodontal disease, early signs of osteoporosis and are between the ages of 45 and 70 you may qualify for this study.
