1. Looking For a Positive and Convenient Summer Experience for Your Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd Grader? SBCCSI's On Campus Program.

Stony Brook Child Care Services (SBCCSI) is offering a summer program for children who have completed kindergarten, first and second grade. The lead teacher is a certified NYS elementary school teacher and will offer a balance of individual / group, indoor/ outdoor, active / quiet play, art, music, science, language, math activities and field trips celebrating summer.
The program runs Monday thru Friday from 8 am - 6pm. Parents can sign up for 6,7,8,9 or 10 weeks. The choice of which weeks is up to parents. Priority and a 10% discount is given to University, Hospital and HSC families. For more information call 632 6930.

2. Stony Brook Taiko Ensemble Performance, May 31 At 7 P.M.

The Stony Brook Taiko Ensemble will give a half hour benefit performance for Brookaven National Lab on May 31 at 7 p.m.
People interested in studying Taiko drum (Japanese drumming with an American interpretation) should email JYoungblood@notes.cc.sunysb.edu for the class schedule. We offer weekly drum classes for all ages and levels.

3. Campus Recreation Summer Intramural Leagues Now Forming in Volleyball & Basketball

Outdoor Coed Volleyball. Team Registration Deadline is June 3rd. Play begins Monday, June 10th. Cost: $60.00/team. League runs June 10th - July 18th (Monday - Thursday only).

4. Summer Camp At Stony Brook June 24 - August 16

The Summer Camp at Stony Brook is back for its third exciting year. The Camp combines a unique twist of educational activities and athletics for children between the ages of 5 -12. 5. Women's Heart Health Series

The Stony Brook Heart Center is presenting a lunchtime symposium focusing on heart disease in women.
The symposium, which is free of charge, begins on Thursday June 13th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm HSC level 3, lecture hall 6.
Lunch will be provided and pre-registration is required. The series will continue on Thursday July 11th and Thursday August 15. To register or find out more information call 444-7415.

6. Lipid Program Group Visits

Stony Brook University Hospital's Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be conducting four, two-hour group visits for patients with elevated lipids and cholesterol.
After an individual clinical evaluation, group visits will review the factors that contribute to increasing levels of lipids and insulin and how they can be decreased with whole foods. Evidence-based information on supplements, genetic influences and indications for anti-lipid medications and their side effects will be reviewed. The role of exercise and stress reduction will also be covered.
The series of four, two-hour sessions will be conducted on consecutive Wednesdays, May 29th, June 5th 12th and 19th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 33 Research Way, Stony Brook Technology Park.
Most insurance plans are accepted with appropriate co-pay for each visit. For those without coverage, the cost for the series is $150.00.

7. Stress Management Workshops

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be presenting a series of three workshops on stress management.
The workshops will focus on meditation as the core experience of stress management and will additionally cover the principles of sound nutrition, movement and sleep practices, time management, awareness of thought patterns and emotions.
The group will be introduced to several forms of meditation including breathing techniques, the stress relaxation response, mindfulness meditation, walking meditations, heart centered meditations and others.
Dates are Thursdays, June 6th, 13th, and 20th from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 33 Research Way, East Setauket, NY. Facilitators are Br. Clark Berge, SSF, Raja Jaber, M.D., Janet Bienkowski, N.P.

8. Meet The Oncology Nurse From The Stony Brook Hospital's Cancer Helpline

The Oncology Nurse from Stony Brook University Hospital's Cancer Helpline will be available in person to answer cancer questions at The Community Resource Center - located in the Stony Brook Village on May 28,2002 from 12 Noon - 2:00 PM. This is an opportunity to have cancer questions answered and to obtain cancer related information

9. UUP Family Leave Surveys Needed ASAP

The UUP Statewide Family Leave Committee has prepared a survey to determine how members have utilized leave provisions to deal with family situations. This survey will provide useful data for upcoming new contract negotiations for UUP. 13. Project Liberty Is Providing Free Support Services To Persons Affected By The September 11th World Trade Center Attacks.

Project Liberty offers free supportive counseling and outreach services to persons, families, and groups affected by this disaster. Groups are now forming for immediate family members who lost a loved one, and for persons who have first hand experience with the events that occurred on September 11th. Please contact Bridget Baio at the Sayville Project at 563-2290 or by E-mail, bbaio@notes.cc.sunysb.edu for assistance or information. Project Liberty is funded by FEMA and the Center for Mental Health Services. All services are free and strictly confidential. The Sayville Project is a community support services agency sponsored by the School of Social Welfare, SUNY at Stony Brook.

14. Closeout Of IDC Accounts

Please be aware, that IDC accounts are in the process of being restructured. A new award and project are currently in the process of being established for Fiscal Year 2002-2003. At this time, we request that Project Directors review their current IDC accounts for outstanding items. Please contact the Procurement Office to facilitate the close out of all open purchase orders and outstanding payment liabilities. All purchase orders with outstanding balances remaining after June 30th, 2002 will be cancelled and disencumbered.

New York State Long-Term Care Insurance (NYPERL) one time open enrollment period ends May 31, 2002. If you wish to enroll,need additional information, or have questions regarding payroll deduction, call 1-866-474-LTCI or visit their web site at www.nyperl.net. If you wish to enroll and pay by payroll deduction, check box number F(3), send the completed form to Med America, and they will directly notfiy the central payroll office in Albany, who will begin your deductions. Payroll deductions for this insurance are NOT coordinated through the local payroll office.

17. Study Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

If you are 18-60 years of age and have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), you are invited to participate in a study funded by the National Institute of Health to learn about the relationships between activity, fatigue, and stress in CFS. 20. CSEA Course Offerings

The School of Health Technology and Management continues it's Spring Course Offerings for CSEA employees this week with Introduction to Windows Operating System and Applicationa of Medical Terminology Part II on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 and Critique Your Resume Part II on Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
