1. A Tiaa-Cref Representative Will Be At Tech Park On June 20, 2002 To Conduct Individual Counseling Sessions.

June 20, 2002, a TIAA-CREF Representative will be at Tech Park, Bldg. 31, Conference Room A to conduct individual counseling sessions from 8 am to 4 pm for Tech Park Employees. To schedule an appointment call TIAA-CREF at 1-800-842-8412.
Tech Park, LISVH, Coram Health Center and hospital employees may contact TIAA-CREF at 1-800-842-8412 to schedule an appointment for an individual counseling session on a different day.

2. Looking for a Positive and Convenient Summer Experience for Your Kindergarten, 1st Or 2nd Grader? SBCCSI's On Campus Program.

Stony Brook Child Care Services (SBCCSI) is offering a summer program for children who have completed kindergarten, first and second grade. The lead teacher is a certified NYS elementary school teacher and will offer a balance of individual / group, indoor / outdoor, active / quiet play, art, music, science, language, math activities and field trips celebrating summer.
The program runs Monday thru Friday from 8 am - 6pm. Parents can sign up for 6,7,8,9 or 10 weeks. The choice of which weeks is up to parents. Priority and a 10% discount is given to University, Hospital and HSC families. For more information call 632 6930.

3. Summer Camp at Stony Brook June 24 - August 16

The Summer Camp at Stony Brook is back for its third exciting year. The Camp combines a unique twist of educational activities and athletics for children between the ages of 5 -12. 4. Women's Heart Health Series

The Stony Brook Heart Center is presenting a lunchtime symposium focusing on heart disease in women.
The symposium, which is free of charge, begins on Thursday June 13th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm HSC level 3, lecture hall 6.
Lunch will be provided and pre-registration is required. The series will continue on Thursday July 11th and Thursday August 15. To register or find out more information call 444-7415.

5. Stress Management Workshops

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be presenting a series of three workshops on stress management.
The workshops will focus on meditation as the core experience of stress management and will additionally cover the principles of sound nutrition, movement and sleep practices, time management, awareness of thought patterns and emotions.
The group will be introduced to several forms of meditation including breathing techniques, the stress relaxation response, mindfulness meditation, walking meditations, heart centered meditations and others.
Dates are Thursdays, June 6th, 13th, and 20th from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 33 Research Way, East Setauket, NY. Facilitators are Br. Clark Berge, SSF, Raja Jaber, M.D., Janet Bienkowski, N.P.

9. Study of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

If you are 18-60 years of age and have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), you are invited to participate in a study funded by the National Institute of Health to learn about the relationships between activity, fatigue, and stress in CFS. 12. Project Liberty is Providing Free Support Services to Persons Affected by the September 11th World Trade Center Attacks.

Project Liberty offers free supportive counseling and outreach services to persons, families, and groups affected by this disaster. Groups are now forming for immediate family members who lost a loved one, and for persons who have first hand experience with the events that occurred on September 11th. Please contact Bridget Baio at the Sayville Project at 563-2290 or by E-mail, bbaio@notes.cc.sunysb.edu for assistance or information. Project Liberty is funded by FEMA and the Center for Mental Health Services. All services are free and strictly confidential. The Sayville Project is a community support services agency sponsored by the School of Social Welfare, SUNY @ Stony Brook.

13. Issues of Voice and Discourse in the Teaching of Writing....a One-Day Conference October 5, 2002

" Issues of Voice and Discourse in Teaching College Writing" will be the theme of a one-day conference sponsored by the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stony Brook University, to be held Saturday, October 5, 2002, 9 AM to 5 PM. The keynote speaker will be Peter Elbow. Respondents will be Sondra Perl, Louise Wetherbee Phelps, and Ira Shor.
We invite proposals for panel presentations, individual presentations, or interactive workshops. Suggested topics include the issue of student development of his/her voice in college writing, the challenge of managing competing voices in the researched essay, the use of alternative discourses in representing intellectual work, and the impact of technology on students' texts. The deadline for proposals is June 28, 2002.

14. Meet the Oncology Nurse from The Stony Brook Hospital's Cancer Helpline

The Oncology Nurse from Stony Brook University Hospital's Cancer Helpline will be available in person to answer cancer questions at the Health Resource Center - located in the main entrance of the hospital on 6/6/02 from from 12 Noon - 2:00 PM. This is an opportunity to have cancer questions answered and to obtain cancer related information

16. Wellness Center presents Free Seminar in Kung Fu

The Wellness Center is offering a FREE seminar on Kung Fu. Come to the Exercise Room in the Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 12th at 5:15pm to learn more about Choy-Li-Fut a traditional style of Kung Fu.
Sifu Chang from the Chinese Martial Arts and Health Center located in Miller Place will present on Southern China's most complete and popular style of Kung Fu. Choy-Li-Fut is a southern martial art that combines movements for upper and lower body. He will discuss the physical and psychological benefits of practicing Choy-Li-Fut.
