10. Volunteers needed for the Host Family Program

Volunteers are needed for Stony Brook's Host Family Program. The service provides new international students and visiting scholars with a continuing friendship and involvement with an American family. A host family may be a retired couple, a large family group, a newly-married couple, or a single individual. The only pre-requisite is the desire to make an international student or scholar feel comfortable in a strange and new setting.
The program is a friendship program and is not meant to be a home stay program. Instead, families can make every effort to share occasions, outings, special holidays and aspects of American culture with the visiting student or scholar.
Those readers interested in becoming a host family in the fall are encouraged to contact Rhona Goldman, the Program Director, at (631) 689-7481, or by e-mail at rgoldman@notes.cc.sunysb.edu or goldman7@optonline.net
