4. Off-Campus Access to MySBfiles Changes Oct. 1

Due to a Windows server upgrade, access to MySBfiles from off campus will require a new server address beginning Oct. 1. This is important for users who want to access their MySBfiles from home or from a computer that is not connected to the campus network. This change does not apply to on-campus computers that are connected to the campus network. Individuals who access their MySBfiles from a shortcut on their desktop or mapped network drive in "My Computer" will not be affected. As of Oct. 1, the new server address will be:
https://mysbfiles.stonybrook.edu/home. For read-only access, enter the new URL into a Web browser. For read/write access, Windows users must add a new network place/location. Mac users should make sure they are connecting to the new server address. Instructions for how to set up a connection to MySBfiles can be found at the link below.

Refocus. Clickers serve as a method to prevent drifts in attention span and get students back on the learning track.
Attendance: Clickers can be used to keep track of individual student attendance.
Interactive Games and Learning Activities: Develop quiz games and team learning exercises with the use of clickers.
Automatic Grading: Develop in-class exercises using clickers that automatically grade student responses.

10. Is Your Course Resistant to the Flu?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 9:50am-11:10am
There are predictions that this flu season may be worse than others due to the H1N1 virus. This could result in large numbers of student absences and perhaps even your own isolation from campus due to illness or, in extreme circumstances, the closing of the University. Should we encounter emergency situations that would affect your ability to deliver your on-campus course, the Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT) Department can help you adopt some web-based and other distance delivery strategies that would lower the impact of an epidemic and help those in isolation keep up with your course. These strategies can be used in any situation or circumstance that would keep you from meeting with your on-campus students, such as personal absences, snow days and conference attendance. Your course delivery and student participation won't skip a beat.

Integrating technology into the classroom can be daunting. At one point educators questioned the purpose of chalk and a blackboard in the classroom, but with an open mind and patience these tools became one of the greatest assets to learning. Similarly, integrating technology like a SMARTBoard into your lecture can enhance your lessons and make them more enjoyable for you and your students.
