5. Off-Campus Access to MySBfiles Has Changed
Due to a Windows server upgrade, access to MySBfiles from off campus requires a new server address. This is important for users who want to access their MySBfiles from home or from a computer that is not connected to the campus network. This change does not apply to on-campus computers that are connected to the campus network. Individuals who access their MySBfiles from a shortcut on their desktop or mapped network drive in "My Computer" will not be affected. As of Oct. 1, the new server address is:
https://mysbfiles.stonybrook.edu/home
. For read-only access, enter the new URL into a Web browser. For read/write access, Windows users must add a new network place/location. Mac users should make sure they are connecting to the new server address. Instructions for how to set up a connection to MySBfiles can be found at the link below.

7. Research Foundation Lecturer/Independent Contractor Payments
All requests for Research Foundation payments to Lecturers/Independent Contractors must have an IRS W-9 form attached.
This form must be completed in full, indicating correct Social Security/TIN number, and signed by recepient. Research Foundation has stated that IRS requirements are becoing more stringent, and it is crtical that we have accurate information on file. The IRS can potentially fine the Research Foundation for not collecting accurate information.

8. Who are our Students? - Teaching the Millennials
Wednesday, October 7, 12:50pm-2:10pm
Education is changing because our students are changing. The Millennials in our classrooms have different worldviews and perceptions about education. Their formative years have been spent in a world that's vastly different than the world in which we were educated. They are the Google and Wikipedia generation. They grew up with computers in their classrooms and texting on their cellphones is one of their primary means of communication. This isn't going away. We tend to teach as were taught and that won't work with the Millenials. Let's discuss who they are and how the learn. How can we effectively reach and teach them and maintain the quality standards and best practices we endorse in our classrooms.

12. Using Mid-Semester Feedback for Ongoing Course Improvement
Monday, October 12, 12:50pm-2:10pm
Questioning the utility of end-of-course evaluations as a teaching improvement tool, I decided to try TLT's Mid-semester-feedback process (also called SGID) on my Han class. It is a modified form of focus group that gives a very different kind of information compare to that provided by summative course evaluation. I will describe the process and talk about my experiences with it, and open up the session for discussion.

13. Promote Student Thinking and Enhance Learning Beyond Rote Memory with Concept/Mind Maps.
Friday, October 9, 12:50pm-2:10pm
Open your students' minds to some of the challenging and thought-provoking dimensions of your course through the use of concept maps. Concept Mapping enables students to think beyond the rote memorization of single concepts and helps them discover, visually, relationships between the concepts and other things, ideas and people. "In contrast with rote learning, where students merely store facts and information without really understanding how they fit into a "conceptual pattern", concept mapping enables students to engage in "meaningful learning", as they continually refine their knowledge structures, ultimately constructing "complex frameworks of interrelated concepts with many levels of hierarchy, branching, and crosslinking". In this workshop, you'll see examples of concept mapping, identify their application within your course, and build your own concept map using a Web 2.0 application easily accessed by your students.

14. Keep Students in Sync or Enforce Prior Learning: Schedule Access Using Blackboard's Adaptive Release Feature
Monday, October 12, 3:50pm-5:10pm
