3. Annual "Summer Soiree" to Benefit Pediatric MS Research, July 29th

The 4th Annual "Summer Soiree" presented by the National Pediatric MS (multiple sclerosis) Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center is an evening of music, dance and delectable dining to benefit pediatric research at the center. A portion of the event proceeds will also benefit the Team Adventure Camp Program, an annual summer camp program for teenagers with MS.
Live music performed by the popular "Big Shot", a Billy Joel tribute band, will highlight the event, which takes place at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y., on Wednesday, July 29.
Ticket price is $150 per person and includes a buffet, dance music, and a silent auction. Dress is casual. Sponsorships are available.

5. CSEA Local 614 Annual Picnic

C.S.E.A. Local 614 Annual Picnic Mark your calendars! C.S.E.A. Local 614 is having the Annual Picnic on August 1, 2009 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. It will be on campus grounds to accommodate all. The location will be at the Lower Practice Field 3, behind the Gymnasium. There will be food and beverage along with games, swimming, raffle prizes, music and more! 8. Origami Heaven Festival

In addition to the eye-popping exhibition in room 201, this family-friendly festival features teaching tables staffed by Long Island Folding Enthusiasts members to present to you and your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews origami, a puppet portal, storigami (telling stories with origami), a greeting card workshop, and a Japanese Tea ceremony. 9. Campus Recreation Kayak Trip August 7th

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing a kayaking trips in Port Jefferson Harbor on Friday, August 7th @ 10:30am (time may vary due to tide schedule). Registration Fee is $25.00 per person/trip which includes kayak rental and lunch. Undergraduate students registered for summer classes are free. This trip is for beginner/intermediate kayakers in good health and will be approximately 4 to 5 hours in length. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible to participate. 1. Interconnecting CISCO Network Devices

10 sessions * $1,766 (text included)
This course is the standard CCNA preparation course. The overall objective of the course is to cover all the topics required by the CCNA test. The principles of Architecture Layering, Multiplexing and Encapsulation are discussed and IP addressing (subnetting) is discussed in detail.
PCP/IP, IPX, PPP, ISDN and Frame Relay Protocols are covered. Network equipment such as repeaters, bridges, routers, hubs and switches are studied in detail. Interconnecting and configuring networking equipment, such as CISCO's 2500 and 2600 series routers, 1900 and 2900 catalysts switches are studies. Students will learn how to design networks using VLANS on the above-mentioned equipment.
This is a hands-on course and required students make every effort to attend every night. Course helps to prepare for the new CISCO test #640-802.

2. Foundations of Accounting Methods

NCE 500 * six sessions * Fee: $595
This introduction to accounting demonstrates basic accounting fundamentals. Students will explore the recording, summarization and adjusting transactions and the understanding of the basic accounting cycle. Accounting principles and concepts, preparation of budgets and variance analysis will be demonstrated. Hands-on problem sets will be used to reinforce concepts relating to financial statements. At the completion of this course, students should have an understanding of accounting concepts and how they apply to current business situations.
Required Text: Accounting Essentials, 2nd Edition, Neal Margolis, N. Paul Harmon (ISBN # 978-0-471-82721-4). Cost of text is not included in the course fee. Students must bring textbook to the first class meeting.

This introductory course will cover the many dimensions of marketing principles. Students will explore market research, developing a business/marketing plan, target/test strategies, marketing vs sales, branding; internet options, customer service vs customer loyalty, why price is not king and more.
There will be discussions on some famous marketing success stories and failures. At the completion of this class students should have a good understanding of marketing principles and methods.

5. Do You Have Heart Failure?

Adults diagnosed with heart failure are invited to participate in a symptom monitoring study. The study is testing an educational method to help patients monitor their heart failure symptoms. If qualified to participate, questionnaires about your medical history, symptoms, self-care, and quality of life will be completed. Participants are followed for one year by telephone (15-20 minute interviews 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after enrollment). All participants will be given a weight scale to keep and a booklet on heart failure self-care. You will be paid $20 at both 6 and 12 months if you complete the telephone interviews. 8. Does Your Child Have ADHD and Severe Problems With Aggression?

Researchers at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at SUNY Stony Brook are conducting a study of children ages 6 - 12 with ADHD and severe problems with aggressive behavior.
Children will receive a thorough diagnostic evaluation, and treatment with one or two medications. Parents will receive nine weeks of parent training. There is no charge to families for these services.

9. Study of Hiv Positive,Aids And Chromium Picolinate

The General Clinical Research Center at StonyBrook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV Positive or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, leading to Diabetes and possibly body fat distribution, HIV Lipodystrophy,. 10. Treatment Study for Behavioral Control Problems for Boys and Girls 6 to 12 years old

Treatment Study for Behavioral Control Problems for Boys and Girls 6 to 12 years old. Stony Brook University's Division of Children and Adolescent Psychiatry is conducting a study supported by the national Institute of health of treatment steps for children, ages 6 to 12, who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other behavioral control problems such as aggressiveness, explosiveness and low frustration tolerance. 1. Al-Anon Meetings at LI Veteran's Home

Al-Anon Family Group meetings are being held on Mondays, 11:30am - 1pm in the East Pavilion Board Room at the LI Veteran's Home. Dubbed the Stony Brook Serenity Break, it is open to all family and friends of alcoholics, hoping to provide help and friendship to those affected by someone else's drinking. Anonymity is an extremely important part of this program, providing a safe environment for discussion of topics that will increase understanding and quality of life, especially in difficult circumstances. 3. Allergy Diagnostic Unit Opens August 3 at 26 Research Way

The new Allergy Diagnostic Unit at 26 Research Way opens August 3.
Physicians may request consultative evaluation for their patients by calling 444-0580.
Specialized services include: 1) multi-test allergen skin testings (allows one prcik for 8 allergens), 2) impedance oscillometry (next generation spirometry measuring small airways function), 3) exhaled breath condensate nitric oxide (noninvasive measure of airway inflammation).

5. Math, Physics and Language classes for elementary and middle school students in Stony Brook University

SchoolPlus Enrichment Program offers Mathematics for 5-15 years olds (10 levels); Physics for 10-15 y.o. (3 levels); Art for 6-15 y.o., Languages: French - 6 levels; English advanced; and Russian for all levels, including Russian as a foreign language. We also offer the enrichment program for children 3-5 y.o.
Classes held on Sundays at Stony Brook University. Teachers include the leading specialists from Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Lab.
The tuition is $16.50/45 minute class
