2. Art Of Living Workshop
The Art of Living workshop is a proven method for improving the quality of life. It is based both on theoretical understanding and practical tools that can immediately be put to use with implications for all aspects of an individual's with direct, long lasting and tangible results. The workshop provides participants with practical and powerful techniques including Eastern breathing techniques, meditation, tension-releasing yogic stretches and exercises, and skills for dealing effectively with challenging emotions and situations. A weekly group follow up practice is available at Stony Brook.

Engage students, check comprehension, attendance and participation with student response systems (clickers) in your course. Quickly get feedback on student comprehension. Easily take attendance and measure class participation. Enable students to self-assess their learning.
New users are encouraged to attend, and if possible, bring laptops so that you can do hands-on training. The training will help ensure your success. Current users are welcome to share ideas about implementation and to learn about software enhancements.

The Laufer Center is hosting it's first annual symposium on Friday, September 25th! It will be held in the Charles B. Wang Center and will have outside speakers in various areas as well as a poster session for students and postdocs.

This introduction to accounting demonstrates basic accounting fundamentals. Students will explore the recording, summarization and adjusting transactions and the understanding of the basic accounting cycle. Accounting principles and concepts, preparation of budgets and variance analysis will be demonstrated. Hands-on problem sets will be used to reinforce concepts relating to financial statements. At the completion of this course, students should have an understanding of accounting concepts and how they apply to current business situations.

2. Fundamentals of Marketing

This introductory course will cover the many dimensions of marketing principles. Students will explore market research, developing a business/marketing plan, target/test strategies, marketing vs sales, branding; internet options, customer service vs customer loyalty, why price is not king and more.
There will be discussions on some famous marketing success stories and failures. At the completion of this class students should have a good understanding of marketing principles and methods.

3. Defensive Driving Program for UUP Members
A NYSUT sponsored Defensive Driving program is being offered on Tuesday and Thursday, September 29 & October 1 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM in the Wang Center Room 201, for all UUP employees and their immediate family members. Cost is $30 per person, payable in advance. Checks should be made payable to "NYSUT Benefit Trust" and delivered to the UUP office, 104 Old Chemistry, Z=3475. Office hours are Monday thru Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. Receipt of your check reserves your place in class. Participants are usually entitled to a 10% discount on their automotive insurance. 4. Emergency Medical Technician(EMT)Evening Classes
The Stony Brook School of Heath Technology & Management is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic course. It is scheduled to be held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings 5pm to 10pm plus a few Saturdays at 9am. The course starts on September 8th, 2009 and continue through November 26th, 2009. It will be open to individuals 18 years old or older at the time of testing. Successful students will attain New York State EMT certification and will be eligible to apply to the SBU Paramedic course. Tuition cost: $700 plus text books. Treatment Study for Behavioral Control Problems for Boys and Girls 6 to 12 years old. Stony Brook University's Division of Children and Adolescent Psychiatry is conducting a study supported by the national Institute of health of treatment steps for children, ages 6 to 12, who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other behavioral control problems such as aggressiveness, explosiveness and low frustration tolerance. We are seeking patients diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
We are conducting a study to gather detailed information about how life experiences impact gastrointestinal symptoms.
What you can do to help:
To qualify you should be diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. You must be able to come to the research office at Stony Brook 1 time for a 3 hour period and be available for 2 telephone interviews following your study visit. Scheduling will be done at convenient times for you.

SchoolPlus Enrichment Program offers Mathematics for 5-15 years olds (10 levels); Physics for 10-15 y.o. We also offer the enrichment program for children 3-5 y.o.
