3. Stony Brook launches new Internet TV show on teaching and learning.

Teaching, Learning + Technology has launched a new Internet TV show which features Stony Brook faculty and staff using innovative approaches and best practices in teaching, and applications of educational technology that have had a positive effect on student learning. Interviews are 15-30 minutes long and focus primarily on faculty members. Video and pictures of the application of the innovation or best practice are included in each show where possible. The interviews are intended to provide a balanced look at both the benefits and challenges of adopting a particular approach to teaching and learning and should be useful to faculty and faculty developers at any campus.

4. EH&S is now offering courses on Blackboard!

EH&S is now offering training classes on-line through the Blackboard e-Education platform. Taking the classes on-line provides the same "credit" that you get when you attend the live class. The on-line class can be used to review the course material after you have taken the live class or to take the annual refresher class if required. 6. Connecting Academic Professional Development with Faculty Learning Communities Wang Center, Room 101 9/15/2009 11:30 AM -12:30 PM

Dr. Patricia Aceves is a candidate for the Director of The Faculty Center. This event is open to all - feel free to bring your lunch.
Faculty learning communities provide faculty a forum to actively engage with their peers in a collegial, group environment designed to focus on teaching and learning within a specific topic or disciplinary area. This workshop will introduce faculty to the concepts of faculty/peer learning communities as currently practiced in higher education. Participants will actively discuss and explore these learning communities as professional development centered on enhancing teaching and learning.
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants ought to:
1) Understand the concepts of faculty learning communities as they relate to teaching and learning.
2) Respond to an appreciative inquiry of personal professional development opportunities through the learning communities at Stony Brook University.

10. Interactive PDAR Training

PDAR is a Lotus Notes application that assists and facilitates the job creation, review, approval, posting and advertisement requisition process. This electronic format eliminates five paper forms (SUSB37, Position Description, Ad Request, Ad Text and the first page of the SUSB68).
After completing this interactive computer based training class, participants will be able to:
-Create and clone job requisitions/PDARs
-Create waiver forms
-Create advertisement requests
-Understand the uses of reclassification, promotion, increased duties, FAST TRACK
-Utilize the Employment Tracking System (ETS)

12. Diversity 101 Workshop

September 30, 9:00am 3:00pm
This full day program will provide participants with necessary information, resources, and guidance about Federal and State regulations; University policies around issues of discrimination; equal employment opportunity complaint resolution and diversity. It will clarify and communicate the roles, rights and responsibilities of supervisors, managers, employees and the Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action in these matters. The program will review appropriate methods for making referrals, the scope of confidentiality and the policy against retaliation. Through the use of case studies and other interactive exercises, this program will allow participants to explore and discuss dimensions of diversity and inclusion, approaches to managing diversity, the impact of stereotyping and bias in the workplace. Each participant will develop a personal action plan.
Target Audience: All employees, supervisors, managers.

21. EASY Online Collaboration and Document Management: Introdution to SharePoint Sites for your Course, Department or Research Team

SharePoint is a great tool for sharing documents and Web hosting. File libraries can be created to store, share, and collaborate on documents. You can be alerted if someone modifies a document. A check-in/check-out system can be enabled to ensure that just one person is working on a document at any given time to prevent overwriting. Different versions of a document can be saved and restored. All documents and the entire site collection can be accessed anywhere from any computer. Additionally you have full control over who can see or do anything on your site.

1. Do You Have Heart Failure?

Adults diagnosed with heart failure are invited to participate in a symptom monitoring study. The study is testing an educational method to help patients monitor their heart failure symptoms. If qualified to participate, questionnaires about your medical history, symptoms, self-care, and quality of life will be completed. Participants are followed for one year by telephone (15-20 minute interviews 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after enrollment). All participants will be given a weight scale to keep and a booklet on heart failure self-care. You will be paid $20 at both 6 and 12 months if you complete the telephone interviews. 5. Job & Internship Fair (IT, Engineering, Science)

Employers will be on campus to discuss the organizations they represent and available job and internship opportunities in IT, Engineering, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and Environmental/Marines.
Students may meet representatives, have brief interviews, and leave resumes with a significant number and variety of employers. This Fair will take place in SAC Ballrooms A and B from 12PM-3PM on 9/23/09. To view the most updated list of employers that will be present, log on to ZebraNet at www.stonybrook.edu/career.
