3. Procurement Satellite Office Closure

The last day of operation for the Procurement satellite office in room N4071 of the Melville Library will be June 30, 2009. Effective July 1st the satellite office will be closed and will no longer accept hand carried documents from Campus departments. As of July 1st, all Purchasing, Accounts Payable and Travel procurement documents must be forwarded to the Procurement Office's new location via campus mail.

4. Deer Park Water Service

Governor Patterson recently issued Executive Order No. 18 mandating the phase out of State-funded expenditures for the purchase of bottled water by State agencies. In order to comply with the Governor's Executive Order, effective July 1, 2009 Stony Brook University will be eliminating the purchase of bottled water. The Procurement Office will coordinate the closing of Deer Park Water accounts and will arrange for the pick up of Deer Park equipment, supplies and remaining bottled water.

1. Exciting Professional Development opportunity for Assistant Professors

1. The 3rd Annual Paul Simons Memorial Bike Ride

The Paul Simons Foundation will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Paul Simons Memorial Bike Ride on Saturday, July 11, 2009 - Registration in SAC Lobby at 8:30 a.m., and bike ride starts at 9:30 a.m. The ride will begin and end at the Student Activities Center Loop and Plaza, and will encircle the west campus for 3 miles. You can ride your bicycle on the campus roadways up until 11:00 a.m. We encourage small riders to keep on the "Paul Simons Bike Path".

2. SBU Cat Network Has Kittens!

The SBU Cat Network cares for the homeless cats living on campus and, where possible, finds them homes. It's kitten season, and we have 7 beautiful young kittens (born in May) who'd love to join your family. 3. Wellness Center Summer Specials - Discounted Membership Packages

Are you trying to get in shape but not looking to pay those huge membership fees? If this sounds like you then I invite you to join the Wellness Center for the summer. 4. Camp Seawolf

Professional Education Program's Outreach Division offers a one-week, residential environmental education summer camp for boys and girls ages 12-14 held at BSA Schiff Scout Reservation located at 1606 Manorville Road, Wading River, NY 11792 sponsored by a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and Suffolk County Parks. The curriculum centers on the environment of Long Island, with special emphasis on the marine coastal environment. Campers experience hands-on, field oriented stewardship projects that instill a lasting stewardship ethic and enrich their understanding and need to become stewards of our natural resources. Scholarships through Social Service agencies are available to Suffolk County residents who qualify!

5. Community Yoga at the Wang Center with Elizabeth Heifferon

Please join us for multi-level yoga classes(appropriate for beginners and more advanced students), designed to stretch and strengthen your body, increase your inner peace, and bring mind, body, and spirit into alignment. This is hatha yoga, meaning it incorporates the physical practices of yoga: asana (poses), pranayama (breath control), and meditation. Bring along a mat (if you have one) and an intention for positive change, and grow with us in the Wang Center gardens, as we explore the practice of yoga: the total mind-body workout that doesn't feel like a workout. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in and (if you can) bring a suggested donation of $5.

7. The Summer Camp at Stony Brook University

Stony Brook Athletics provides quality overnight or full day sport programs directed by NCAA Division I SB Head Coaches. Each camper is given the opportunity to receive instruction from the top college players in the game today. The Seawolves sports camps are tailored to campers of all skill levels and abilities so that children have the opportunity to progress at their own rate. 8. Campus Recreation Kayak Trips

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing 2 kayaking trips in Port Jefferson Harbor on Friday, June 26th and Friday, July 17th @ 10:30am (time may vary due to tide schedule). Registration Fee is $25.00 per person/trip which includes kayak rental and lunch. Undergraduate students registered for summer classes are free. This trip is for beginner/intermediate kayakers in good health and will be approximately 4 to 5 hours in length. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible to participate. 10. Campus Recreation trip to Citi Field to see the Mets

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing a trip to Citi Field to see The New York Mets take on the St. Louis Cardinals, Wednesday June 24th @ 7:10pm. Departure time will be 4:15 pm from the Sports Complex loading dock area. This trip is $10.00 for SBU undergraduate students who are registered for summer classes payable at the time of registration. This four-day intensive computer camp will explore age/grade specific topics in Introduction to Excel, Word and Access.
Excel topics include: overview of the program: using the toolbar; entering data; simple calculations and formulas' simple graphs and pivot tables.

Beginners and returnees welcome! Explore alternatives to wheel throwing. Construct and combine forms using pinch pots, slabs and coils. Embellish with texture stamps of your own design. 11. Knitting and Beaded Jewelry Making Classes

Learn how to create your own handmade jewelry in the Beaded Jewelry Workshop! This course will cover how to crimp, string, fasten findings and select materials used in beaded jewelry. 12. Foundations of Accounting Methods

NCE 500 * six sessions * Fee: $595
This introduction to accounting demonstrates basic accounting fundamentals. Students will explore the recording, summarization and adjusting transactions and the understanding of the basic accounting cycle. Accounting principles and concepts, preparation of budgets and variance analysis will be demonstrated. Hands-on problem sets will be used to reinforce concepts relating to financial statements. At the completion of this course, students should have an understanding of accounting concepts and how they apply to current business situations.

1. Does Your Child Have ADHD and Severe Problems with Aggression?

Researchers at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at SUNY Stony Brook are conducting a study of children ages 6 - 12 with ADHD and severe problems with aggressive behavior. Children will receive a thorough diagnostic evaluation, and treatment with one or two medications. Parents will receive nine weeks of parent training. 6. Treatment Study for Behavioral Control Problems for Boys and Girls

Children 6 to 12 Years Old Stony Brook University’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is conducting a study supported by the National Institute of Health of treatment steps for children, ages 6 12, who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other behavioral control problems such as aggressiveness, explosiveness and low frustration tolerance. Eligible children receive free evaluation and study treatment, including medication and help with behavioral support strategies.
