A Poetry Reading By Robin Becker Poet, Associate Professor in
English and Women's Studies Penn State University.

A Poetry Reading By Robin Becker Poet, Associate Professor in
English and Women's Studies Penn State University, Tuesday,
March 6, 2001 at 4:30pm The Poetry Center at Stony Brook
Humanities Building, Room 239

Reading from her latest book "The Horse Fair" which is part of
the Pitt Poetry Series from the University of Pittsburgh Press,
Becker asks questions about citizenship and participation in the
marketplaces - of bodies, of ideas, of objects - in which we
function. She investigates how individuals marginalized by
gender, religion, and sexual preference negotiate public and
private spheres while inventing sustainable communities.

Becker's fourth collection, All-American Girl, won the 1996
Lambda Literary Award in Lesbian Poetry. For an essay and long
poem, she won the 1997 Virginia Faulkner Prize for Excellence in
Writing from Prairie Schooner magazine. Becker has received
fellowships from the Bunting Institute of Radcliffe College, the
Massachusetts Artists Foundation, and the National Endowment for
the Arts. Her poems and book reviews have appeared in
publications including American Poetry Review, Boston Globe,
Gettysburg Review, and Ploughshares. For more information, please

LANI GUINIER TALK on WUSB 90.1 FM Radio, Thursday 3/8 at 9:30p.m.

A talk by Lani Guinier will be broadcast on WUSB 90.1 FM on
Thursday March 8 from 9:30pm to 10pm. Guinier will present a new
way of looking at the commonly held observation that boys get
ahead because of their sports ability and facility at playing
games. Since they construct the game in the first place and are
raised to see everything as a game, the "game' is made for them.
Guinier will suggest ways in which the game must be changed,
because even though many people of color, white women, gays and
lesbians and disabled persons have gotten ahead, left behind are
coutless numbers who remain invisible.
