Upgrade Lotus Notes Client

Notes R5 brings many advances in stability, integrity and
functionality. Some of the benefits cannot be realized until all
of us using the Notes client are at the R5 level. If you are
already running R5, then you have our thanks and you can ignore
this announcement. (If you have the dark green menu bar and the
icon and bookmark bar on the far left you are on R5)

Keeping the workstation and server software as close to the
current release is very important for both the user and the
support personnel. In addition, the vendor has limitations on the
length of time that they will provide technical support for a
particular version of Notes. For both of these reasons, we need
all users that are not on R5 to upgrade their Notes client.
First check to make sure your machine is capable of running R5.
It should be at least a Pentium (Windows 95,98,Me, NT, 2000) or
PowerPC (Mac OS 8.5 or above) 133 MHz with 32 MB of memory and
200 MB free disk space. Then use the instructions at
http://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/doit.nsf/pages/r5quick to do the
upgrade.

We will be monitoring the status of upgrades and sending email
reminders to those who are still using the R4.x clients. All
upgrades should be done by January 18, 2001. If you experience
difficulty in performing this upgrade, please call DoIT Client
Support at 2-9800.

Sick Leave Exchange Program message from UUP

SUNY and the state are having problems with the Sick Leave
Exchange Program (SLEP). SLEP, as you know, is the program that
allows UUPers to exchange sick days for credit toward the payment
of the health insurance premium.

Since the campuses did not get data entered into the system for
all members, some SUNY employees did not receive credit for their
health insurance premium in the January 3rd paycheck. But don't
panic. The State claims they are 'hopeful' that all information
will be entered before the January 17th paycheck. In other
words, they think they'll have the problem resolved before the
next paycheck.

If you have any questions concerning the state's calculation of
the credit, call the UUP Member Benefit's Office at:
1-(800) 877-3863.
