1. Commemoration of September 11 on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Memorial Arch, 12:00 p.m.
The September 11th Commemoration ceremony will begin at 12 noon at the Memorial Arch (in front of Humanities). This will be followed by a silent procession to the Memorial Grove at the Student Activities Center circle. Rain Location: SAC Auditorium. Van transportation will be available at the Hospital main entrance for the east campus community. Access to the Administration Garage is available to East Campus cardholders. Please observe a moment of silence during all campus activities at 8:46 a.m. The Interfaith Center Chapel and Hospital Chapel will be open all day on September 11, 2007, for those seeking a quiet place for prayer, meditation, and reflection. 3. All Faculty and Staff Now Have 500 MB of File Storage
Students have been enjoying this benefit for the past year. Now Stony Brook University is providing 500 MB of file storage for all faculty and staff called MySBfiles. Anything you save to MySBfiles is accessible on any machine with a web browser from on or off campus. The files are protected by AntiVirus software and are kept on the university servers, so they will not be affected if your computer crashes or is stolen. Your files are backed up at regular intervals and can be easily recovered. You can host your own personal Web page on MySBfiles. If you are using a machine in your campus office or in a SINC Site, you will automatically connect to your MySBfiles when you log into the machine using your NetID. 4. Blackboard News: Fall 2007 Instructors - Can students see your courses?
Instructors: When you log into Blackboard, does it say (Unavailable) next to your course?
If so, students currently do not have access to your Blackboard course.
Here's how you can activate your course:
1. Log into Blackboard with your Net ID Username & Password.
2. Under My Courses, you will see your courses. If your courses are unavailable it will say so next to the course.
3. Click on the course that you would like to make available and go to the Control Panel
Choose: Settings in the Course Options Area. Then choose: Course Availability and choose Yes to make your course available.
Once you do this, all students who are registered for your course should have access to your Blackboard site

7. "Lauterbur's Legacy: Looking at Life" Symposium
A Special Symposium at Stony Brook: A symposium in remembrance of Paul Lauterbur, who received the Nobel Prize for the discovery of
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI),will be held on Friday (2:00-5:30 pm), September 7, 2007. The plenary Presidential Lecture entitled "How One Man Helped to Revolutionize Medicine" will be presented by the Nobel Laureate, Richard Ernst plus frontier research talks on imaging, health, environment and energy.

1. Flying Point 10K Run - September 23, 2007
The second annual Flying Point 10K for Autism Awareness is set for Sunday, September 23 in Water Mill. Last year, the Flying Point 10K raised $15,000 for the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
Starting at beautiful Flying Point Beach in Water Mill, the course weaves through estate-lined streets and ends up back at the beach again for a stunning finish. Following the competitive race is a 50-yard dash for all children.
New to the event for 2007 is a 2K fun walk.

Did you know that 1 out of 4 women have Genital Herpes? and 90% of those who have it, don't know they do! Volunteer women needed.
Confidentiality maintained. If you are a women between the ages of 18-30,you may be eligible to participate in a Clinical Research Study at Stony Brook University Medical Center. A blood test will be done for detection,and if you qualify,you may receive an experimental vaccination which could protect you from Genital Herpes at no cost to you. We are seeking to identify new cancer markers in blood, tissue, and body fluids. This may allow us to develop laboratory tests which can diagnose cancers earlier and/or identify patients who are at risk for a poor outcome and who may benefit from more aggressive therapy than is normally recommended. Meaningful Advantageous Tactical Hands-On Program for 7th & 8th graders: The world of mathematics has many different topic areas. During the five week course, students will explore some of those topics. Through the use of hands-on fun activities, students will gain an appreciation of mathematics that is pragmatic and useful. 2. Senior Citizen Law Day October 6th - Free educational seminars designed to assist families in senior life planning.
Senior Citizen Law Day is a community event that offers free educational seminars on topics related to senior life planning. Senior Citizen Law Day will be held on Saturday, October 6th, at Stony Brook University’s Student Activities Center from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Through the generous support from Moloney Family Funeral Homes, Harbor Village at Mt. Sinai, Senior Funding Group, Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and Citibank / SmithBarney of Lake Grove, this event will be open to the public - free of charge.
Elder law attorneys, finance and healthcare professionals will provide objective information sessions on important topics such as community resources available for seniors, Medicare Part D, identity theft, community Medicaid, wills & trusts, estate planning, selecting a nursing home, reverse mortgages, pre-need funeral arrangements, advance directives and more.
