2. Stony Brook University Time Capsule

In the past 50 years, Stony Brook has given much to our local community. We have also made many important and lasting gifts to the global community gifts of musical and literary compositions, scientific and medical discoveries, scholarly breakthroughs, and intellectual innovations. We are asking the University community to recommend one of the many recent contributions we have made for inclusion in our Time Capsule, to be opened 50 years from now.
Submit a description for your recommendation to: The Time Capsule Commemorating 50 Years of Advancing Research, Creativity, and Knowledge. Deadline: Friday, June 29, 2007. Descriptions should be 50 words or fewer and can be submitted by e-mail to yearofcontest@stonybrook.edu. A committee will be reviewing and select qualified entries by the end of July. Entrants will be notified shortly thereafter in preparation for the Time Capsule Installation Ceremony in the fall.

1. Lawson Training for the Month of July

All classes will be held in the Lawson Training Room #797, Level One, right next to the Blue Elevators. There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half will cover ordering from any of the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. 4. The Paul Simons Memorial Bike Ride

The Paul Simons Foundation will be sponsoring the 1st Annual Memorial Bike Ride which will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2007 - 8:00 a.m. registration, 9:00 a.m. start time. 5. Volunteer Musicians Needed to Help the Veterans Home

Musicians needed to provide entertainment and stimulation to Veterans Home residents who have Dementia & Alzheimer's. Music has such healing qualities and really brightens the lives of our residents. If you are a musician and would like to share your talent in a way that will truly make a difference- please contact us to volunteer. This can be a one time thing, or done on a regular basis. 2. Department of Campus Recreation Outdoor 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

The Department of Campus Recreation will host a 3 on 3 Outdoor Summer Basketball Tournament on July 18th. The registration deadline is on July 17th. Games will be played from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. Teams will consist of at least 3 people with a maximum of 5 people on each roster. Registration Fee is $40.00/team. Undergraduate students participate for free. 3. Steve Pikiell Basketball Camp at Stony Brook University

Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 3 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys ages 8-16. These three weeks are "Session I" Monday July 2-Friday July 6(There will be no camp Wednesday July 4th), "Session II" Monday July 9-Friday July 13, and "Session III" Monday July 23-Friday July 27. All 3 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm. The cost of Session I will be $250 and the cost of Sessions II and II will be $300. Any Stony Brook employee will be entitled to a 10% discount. In conjunction with the current exhibition,"Picturing Artists (1950s-1960s): Photographs by Dan Budnik," the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center will hold a free reception on Saturday, June 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. At 6 p.m. Mr. Budnik will give an informal gallery talk about the photographs in the exhibition, which includes images of artists who were associated with Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, or who are or were residents of eastern Long Island.

4. Summer Ikebana Flower Arrangement

Ikebana is the unique art of Japanese flower arrangement. Using design elements such as line, volume and accent students will create two types of arrangements (line and freestyle) constructed from living branches,leaves, grasses and flowers. A beginners course in using a digital camera to create and optimize your photography. Students will learn the basic functions and meanings of the various technical specifications of their personal digital camera. The General Clinical Research Center at StonyBrook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+
or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). 8. Volunteers needed Children ages 6-17: MRI Study of Flow in the Brain and Spine

Volunteers are needed to participate in an MRI study to investigate new methods for imaging flow patterns of blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spine. The goal of the study is to understand flow patterns in healthy individuals in order to compare these results with the abnormal flow patterns seen in individuals with diseases such as hydrocephalus and spinal cysts. Because these diseases are common in children, we are seeking healthy children with no previous history of head or spine trauma, neurological disease, or contraindication for an MRI, as a control group for our study. The study will involve 1 hour of your time and be completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. Subjects will be given a twenty-five dollar ($25) gift certificate to Border’s Bookstore for participating.
