1. All Faculty and Staff Now Have 500 MB of File Storage

Students have been enjoying this benefit for the past year. Now Stony Brook University is providing 500 MB of file storage for all faculty and staff called MySBfiles. Anything you save to MySBfiles is accessible on any machine with a web browser from on or off campus. The files are protected by AntiVirus software and are kept on the university servers, so they will not be affected if your computer crashes or is stolen. Your files are backed up at regular intervals and can be easily recovered. You can host your own personal Web page on MySBfiles. If you are using a machine in your campus office or in a SINC Site, you will automatically connect to your MySBfiles when you log into the machine using your NetID. Detailed information about MySBfiles, including instructions and screen shots, can be found online at http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/helpdesk/sbdrive.shtml

2. Principal Investigator Award Interface (PIAI) Training Session

The Research Foundation has successfully completed upgrading the current version of the Oracle Business System from 11.0.3 to the new 11i version. This was necessary since Oracle no longer supports the version used by the RF. The new version was implemented on May 1, 2007. Oracle is now viewed primarily as a transaction processing system for the administrative departments that handle your financial transactions.
As PIAI is considered a superior and more user friendly information interface for inquiry only access, we are offering training to Project Directors and their assistants to familiarize them with this application. The 90-minute PIAI training session will take place on Thursday, August 30th at 9:00 a.m. in the OVPR Conference Room, W5510 Melville Library.

1. MRI Study: Volunteers needed Children ages 6-17

Volunteers are needed to participate in an MRI study to investigate new methods for imaging flow patterns of blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. The goal of the study is to understand flow patterns in healthy individuals to compare these results with the abnormal flow patterns seen in individuals with diseases such as hydrocephalus. Because these diseases are common in children, we are seeking healthy children with no previous history of neurological disease, head trauma, hydrocephalus, or any contraindication for an MRI, to serve as a control group for our study. The study will involve 1 hour of your time and be completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. Subjects will be given a $25 gift certificate to Border’s Bookstore for participating in the study.
If interested, please contact Veronica Geronimo, study coordinator, at 4-2409, or vgeronim@notes.cc.sunysb.edu, or Mark Wagshul, PhD at mwagshul@notes.cc.sunysb.edu.
