All customer interactions have an impact on the perception of your organization. Excellent customer service is more than just employees smiling and making eye contact. It is an all-encompassing approach to making excellent service delivery part of the culture of your area. Everything a customer sees, hears or touches impacts the experience.

5. FMLA & Medical Related Leaves Training for State & RF Employees

What is FMLA? The first half of this workshop will provide participants with an understanding of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), in order to assist them with implementing this Federal Law. The second half of the workshop will address: State Time & Attendance guidelines, coordinating FMLA with other leave entitlements such as Sick Leave at Half Pay or Presidential Sick Leave, and will briefly review Maternity/Paternity Leave & the Leave Donation Program for State employees. The workshop will conclude with a brief overview of FMLA, disability and workers comp for RF employees.
Target Audience: VP Coordinators, Dept Heads, & Managers who are responsible for administering campus policies.

6. Counseling and the Disciplinary Process for Supervisors of State Employees

This program will provide you, the 1st or 2nd line supervisors and managers, with information regarding the Counseling and Disciplinary processes under all Collective Bargaining Agreements on campus and for non-represented Management/Confidential (M/C) employees in the Stony Brook University community. In addition it will provide you with the ability to support the supervisors in your departments who are faced with employee issues requiring counseling or discipline. The session includes:
How and when to conduct a counseling session
The difference between a verbal and a written counseling
How to write a counseling memo

How to identify problem situations

How to determine when to counsel an employee and when to seek disciplinary action.
The roles of the Supervisor, the Department and Employee and Labor Relations in the process.

Metals, Environment and Human Health: Bridging the Gap

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Center for Environmental Molecular Science (CEMS), the Consortium for Inter-Disciplinary Environmental Research (CIDER), and the Stony Brook 3MT Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) Program. Attendance is open to everyone.

This day-long workshop will feature six leading researchers from around the country, who will discuss the behavior of metals as they relate to environmental processes and human health. The goals are to facilitate interaction among scientists in environmental chemistry, toxicology, and epidemiology, and to identify future directions for research and collaboration. A round-table discussion will allow audience participation.

Diabetes Alert Day is an annual, one day call to action held on the fourth Tuesday of March for people to find out if they are at risk for diabetes. On Sunday, April 15 the Matt and Debra Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Stony Brook University will hold its second annual walk to raise awareness of development disabilities on campus and in the larger community. The Knights of Columbus is holding its Charity Gala on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Hyatt Wind Watch, Islandia, New York. Cocktails begin at 7:00 pm with dinner following at 8:00 pm. The event will honor Mr. Alfred Tisch, former Suffolk County Sheriff. 7. Blues duo Beaucoup Blue and singer-songwriter Terence Martin at The University Cafe, Sunday March 18th at 2 P.M.

Beaucoup Blue, the Philadelphia -based father and son blues-rooted duo of David and Adrian Mowry, have been performing to a growing fan base in the Northeast. A handsome range of instruments like six and twelve string guitars, slide guitar, Dobro and their two soulful voices blend together.

Singer/songwriter Terence Martin returns for his third visit to The Cafe. Acclaimed for his Falcon Ridge Folk Festival performances, Martin's most recent CD, Lost Hills, received critical praise and radio airplay on public and commercial stations across the country. 11. Balinese Gamelan Workshop

A hands-on, guided tour through the exciting interlocking rhythms of Balinese music, played on a full set of bronze gamelan instruments tuned gongs, metallophones, gong-chimes, and drums. Participants will learn in the traditional manner, without the use of notation, to play an exerpt from a dance piece. The teachers include several of Bali’s most brilliant musicians and dancers, who will also demonstrate how dance movements and postures are coordinated with the music’s form, accents, and rhythms.

3. Elevated Lipids And & Cholesterol - An Integrative Approach To Optimize Levels

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Preventive Medicine Services at Stony Brook Medical Center will be conducting four, two-hour group visits for patients with elevated lipids and cholesterol.
Participants are examined/evaluated individually to assess cardiovascular risk, nutrition, exercise and stress levels as well as to determine if their lipid management is optimal. The group visits review factors that contribute to cardiovascular risk and increasing levels of lipids and insulin and addresses how they can be decreased with whole foods, exercise and stress reduction. Also reviewed are genetic influences, indications for medications, their side effects profile as well as the most current evidence-based information on supplements and vitamins.
The series is scheduled for March 21, 28, April 11, 18, from 4:30-6:30pm at 33 Research Way, Stony Brook Technology Park.
