1. EAP Lunchtime Learning - Gang Awareness Training

This training teaches schools, law enforcement, parents and outside agencies how to identify, address, and verify if an individual is in a gang or associates with one.
The training will cover gang symbols, hand signs and colors. The training will show what to look for in an individual who is suspected of being in a gang. The training will also talk about why youth join gangs; the warning signs of gangs and gang violence.

2. Lawson Requistion Training for the month of August

Lawson Requisition Training Classes will be held on a weekly basis, to see available dates please click on the calendar link: http://uhmc-iweb1.uhmc.sunysb.edu/lawsonsupport/index_files/Page909.htm.
All classes will be held in the Lawson Training Room #797, Level One, right next to the Blue Elevators. To schedule for any of these classes please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, Ext. 4-7805. There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half will cover ordering from any of the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. I suggest that all new hospital employees and/or if you are interested in taking a refresher course, please contact us to attend one of these classes.

3. Position Description & Advertisement Requisitions (PDAR)

PDAR is a Lotus Notes application to assist and facilitate the job creation, review, approval, posting and ad requisition process. This electronic format eliminates five paper forms (SUSB 37, Position Description, Ad Request, Ad Text, and the first page of the SUSB 68). Its electronic routing and approval process ensures timely progress and confirmed delivery. No more "lost" paperwork.
Target Audience: Individuals who are responsible for developing position descriptions or submitting position descriptions for posting.
Note: PDAR is not used by the Hospital for State positions, nor for Faculty positions.

1. Department of Campus Recreation Summer Kayaking Trip

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing a kayaking trip in Port Jefferson Harbor on Monday, August 8 @ 10:30am. (Please note time may vary due to tide schedule). Registration Fee is $25.00 per person/trip which includes kayak rental and lunch. Undergraduate students registered for summer classes are free. This trip is for beginner/intermediate kayakers in good health and will be approximately 4 to 5 hours in length. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible to participate. 4. N.Y. Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

Come and join the department of Campus Recreation as we sponsor a trip to see the N.Y. Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday July 25th @ 7:10pm. We will departure at 4:15 pm from LaValle Stadium parking lot.
This trip is $10.00 for SBU undergraduate students who are registered for summer classes payable at the time of registration.

1. Beaded Jewelry Class July 31

The Craft Center will hold a Beaded Jewelry in the Student Union Building on Tuesday July 31 from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm. Class will be held in the Union lower level room 082. Beginners and returnees welcome! Create you own unique beaded accessories. Learn about the different stinging materials, tools and findings for glass beading. Learn how to crimp and attach clasps. Students will create a bracelet and earings in class. Material fee of $6 due instructor at class. Cost of class is $28/student, $32/non-student. 4. Ikebana flower Arrangement class July 25

The Craft Center will hold an Ikebana Flower Arrangement class on Wednesday July 25, from 5:30pm 8pm. Class will be held in the Union lower level room 082. Ikebana is the unique art of Japanese flower arrangement. Using design elements such as line, volume and accent students will create two types of arrangements (line and freestyle) constructed from living branches, leaves, grasses and flowers. Bring to class vases or plant containers (one high, one low) and clippers. Material fee of $9 due instructor at class. Cost of class is $48/student, $35/non-student. The General Clinical Research Center at StonyBrook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+
or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensation

7. Volunteers needed Children ages 6-17: MRI Study of Flow in the Brain and Spine

Volunteers are needed to participate in an MRI study to investigate new methods for imaging flow patterns of blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. The goal of the study is to understand flow patterns in healthy individuals to compare these results with the abnormal flow patterns seen in individuals with diseases such as hydrocephalus. Because these diseases are common in children, we are seeking healthy children with no previous history of neurological disease, head trauma, hydrocephalus, or any contraindication for an MRI, to serve as a control group for our study. The study will involve 1 hour of your time and be completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. Subjects will be given a $25 gift certificate to Border’s Bookstore for participating in the study.
