1. Employee Benefits Fair on Tuesday, October 30, 2007

The Benefits Section of Human Resource Services will host the Employee Benefits Fair on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in the Wang Center Lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

2. Parking Validation booklets

Effective immediately any department that needs to purchase parking validation booklets for use in any of the garage facilities will need to contact Kathie Diehl in the Accounting Office, 401 Administration, at 2-6040. If the department is using a state account, state hospital account, LISVH account or Research Foundation account, the department may use a Material & Services Requisition for the purchase of the parking booklets (form #SUSB 828). This form must be completed with an authorized signatory and then sent to the Accounting office for processing. All other entities (ie SBF, Affiliates, CPMP) will need to obtain an invoice from Accounting for the purchase of the booklet and have a check processed for the purchase accordingly. Should you have any questions regarding this procedure, please contact Lynn Davis at 2-4188 or Kathie Diehl in the Accounting at 2-6040 for assistance.

3. New York State Flex Spending Account (FSA)

The NYS 2008 open enrollment period begins September 24, 2007. The deadline for the enrollment in November 16, 2007 and is strictly enforced. This program helps STATE employees save money when paying for health or dependent care expenses. A paperless application process allows employees to apply online at http://www.flexspend.state.ny.us or by calling 1800-358-7202.
Employees currently enrolled in the Flex Spending Account (FSA) MUST re-enroll if they wish to continue their contribution in 2008.

3. Lawson Training

All classes will be held in the Lawson Training Room #797, Level One, right next to the Blue Elevators. There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half will cover ordering from any of the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. 7. Campus Blood Drives

There is no substitute for human blood. One in three people will need blood during their lives. Blood lasts only 42 days. You donation NOW is critically important.
Close to 2,000 men, women and children in our community, including cancer, transplant and surgery patients, trauma victims, newborn babies, and many others need blood transfusions each day.
This year, Stony Brook University is looking to achieve a 2,000 pint goal. Help us achieve our goal. Give blood on the following dates:

Coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Stony Brook Chapter of the Student African American Brotherhood Organization (SAAB) is a new campus initiative whose primary focus is to help increase the retention of African American and Hispanic American male students. 2. The SB Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center is seeking volunteers with heart failure to participate in its research studies.

DICE: If you have heart failure, you may be eligible to volunteer for a study that seeks to prove if a simple device that demonstrates heart function, similar to an ECG machine, can be used to predict how healthy you may remain. 3. Senior Citizen Law Day October 6th - Free educational seminars designed to assist families in senior life planning.

Senior Citizen Law Day is a community event that offers free educational seminars on topics related to senior life planning. Senior Citizen Law Day will be held on Saturday, October 6th, at Stony Brook University’s Student Activities Center from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Through the generous support from Moloney Family Funeral Homes, Harbor Village at Mt. Sinai, Senior Funding Group, Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and Citibank / SmithBarney of Lake Grove, this event will be open to the public - free of charge.
