1. Parking Garage Information
The Department of Transportation & Parking Operations is planning on performing repair work in the Administration, HSC and Hospital Parking Garages this Summer 2007. Although each garage will remain fully operational during the work, we are anticipating that traffic patterns and access to levels will be affected as a result. Please follow the construction signage and obey garage speed limits when utilizing the parking garages. Although we will certainly attempt to minimize the overall construction impact, your understanding and cooperation is very much appreciated.

Have you activated your course for your students?
When you log into Blackboard, does it say (Unavailable) next to your course?
If so, students currently do not have access to your Blackboard course.
Here's how you can activate your course:
1. Log into Blackboard with your Net ID Username & Password.
2. Under My Courses, you will see your courses. If your courses are unavailable it will say so next to the course.
3. Click on the course that you would like to make available and go to the Control Panel, Choose: Settings in the Course Options Area. Then choose: Course Availability and choose Yes to make your course available.

2. TLT is Testing Three Desktop Conferencing / Virtual Classroom Packages
These systems enable you to host meetings or training sessions online and can include
video, audio, text chats, slide presentations, white board, surveys and desktop/application
sharing. These sessions can also be recorded for later consumption.
The chosen software will be a campus wide resource and you can get involved now to test
the candidates out and help us select the product most appropriate for our needs. We are

entitled Dynamic Cycling of O-GlcNAc: Roles in Signaling, Transcription, Diabetes and

2. "Insulin Signaling Pathways", A Symposium Honoring Dr. William Benjamin
On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, the Department of Physiology and Biophysics will be hosting a Symposium honoring Dr. William Benjamin entitled, "Insulin Signaling Pathways". It will be held in the Health Sciences Center, Level 3, Lecture Hall 5. Refreshments will be served at 9:00 a.m., and the Introductory Remarks will commence at 9:15 a.m. The Symposium should end around 12:45 p.m.

3. Seminar in Pharmacology
Dr. Xinhua Lin of the Division of Developmental Biology, Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, will present a seminar on Tuesday, June 5th at 12:00 noon in the Basic Science Tower, T8-180 entitled, "Shaping Wnt Morphogen Gradient by Proteoglycan, Lipid Modification, and Vesicle Trafficking". The seminar is hosted by Dr. Ken-ichi Takemaru of the Department of Pharmacological Sciences.

1. Join the Cody Center Walk for Developmental Disabilities on Sunday, June 3
The second annual Cody Center Walk for Developmental Disabilities will take place Sunday, June 3, at Stony Brook University. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness of autism and other developmental disabilities.
The original 2007 walk date (April 15) was cancelled due to a Nor’easter. All event details will remain the same. All registration fees collected for the April 15 date will be applied to the June 3 walk.
Registration for the walk begins at 8:00 am in the Student Activities Center on West Campus. The fee is $20 per adult, free for students and children. The walk begins at 9:30 am and finishes at 11:00 a.m.

2. Stony Brook Child Care Services says Thank you to King Kullen
King Kullen in Setauket (route 25A) will donate 1% of total receipts over $5,000 to Stony Brook Child Care Services. 1. Department of Campus Recreation Outdoor 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
The Department of Campus Recreation will host a 3 on 3 Outdoor Summer Basketball Tournament on June 13th . The registration deadline is on June 12th. Games will be played from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. Teams will consist of at least 3 people with a maximum of 5 people on each roster. Registration Fee is $40.00/team. Undergraduate students participate for free. 2. Canada's Ian Tamblyn - Musician, Adventurer, Environmentalist - in benefit concert University Cafe Sunday June 10th 7 P.M.
Ian Tamblyn is one of Canada'a national treasures. His songs have been recorded by Sylvia Tyson, James Keelaghan and Lynn Miles, among others. He has also coupled his music with his environmental awareness to create ambient instrumental music featuring hammered dulcimer and synthesizer.
Opening the show is Sag Harbor's Caroline Doctorow who combines original songs with great interpretations of classics by Dylan, Fred Neil, Tom Paxton, and others.

4. Steve Pikiell Basketball Camp at Stony Brook University
Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 3 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys ages 8-16. These three weeks are "Session I" Monday July 2-Friday July 6(There will be no camp Wednesday July 4th), "Session II" Monday July 9-Friday July 13, and "Session III" Monday July 23-Friday July 27. All 3 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm. The cost of Session I will be $250 and the cost of Sessions II and II will be $300. Any Stony Brook employee will be entitled to a 10% discount. 5. Workplace Challenge
Join fellow students , faculty and staff from Stony Brook University in the 3.5-mile road run/fun walk. The 2nd Annual Marcum & Kliegman Workplace Challenge is Long Island's largest participatory athletic event in which employers from across the Island enter and compete with teams of their employees. Last year this event welcomed over 6,700 participants. The M&K Workplace Challenge will take place at 7 PM on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at beautiful Jones Beach State Park.
All faculty, staff and students of the university are invited to participate in the event. This year Stony Brook University Medical Center, Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine, and the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management will sponsor the Stony Brook University Team.

Weight Watchers at Work NEW progarm sign-up is scheduled for Tuesday June 5. This is a 10 week program beginning on June 12, cost is $109.00 payable at sign-up. Weight Watchers needs 15 people to run this program in the hospital. Sign-up and meetings are held in HSC level 2 conference room 2-408 located in the School of Health Management and Technology from 12:30 - 1:30 PM. This is considered a lunch meeting. 2. Summer Pottery On The Wheel
Beginners through Intermediate levels receive a good foundation in the methods of throwing on the potter’s wheel while making a variety of forms. Glaze and surfaces designs will be demonstrated. Class includes CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP, 25lbs of clay, glazes and some firings.

3. Summer Creating With Watercolor
For the beginner, the self taught, or anyone who wants to learn the basic techniques of transparent watercolor. Learn the fundamentals and benefit from plenty of guidance and practice. 4. Summer Ikebana Flower Arrangement
Ikebana is the unique art of Japanese flower arrangement. Using design elements such as line, volume and accent students will create two types of arrangements (line and freestyle) constructed from living branches,leaves, grasses and flowers. Bring to class vases or plant containers (one high and one low) and clippers.

5. Summer Beaded Jewelry Making
Beginners and returnees welcome! Create your own unique beaded accessories. Learn about the different stringing materials, tools and findings for glass beading. Learn how professionals crimp and attach clasps for a pleasing aesthetic. In this class students will create a bracelet and earings.

A beginners course in using a digital camera to create and optimize your photography. Students will learn the basic functions and meanings of the various technical specifications of their personal digital camera. 8. Introduction to Windows NCE 300.2 3 sessions Fee: $159
This foundation course is required for all computer courses. This hands-on introduction is a computer "must" for the small business owner, job seeker or anyone interested in learning about the latest personal computer technology for home or business. Topics covered in this foundational class are an introduction to the Windows icon-based program including the use of the mouse, manipulating Windows, Explorer, file manager and applications. No prior computer knowledge is required. This course is a prerequisite for all computer courses.
