2. Dept. of Mail Services Postal Rate Increase Information
The Governors of the US Postal Service have accepted the Postal Rate Commissions recommendations to increase postal rates and fees. This new price structure will take affect on May 14, 2007. Among the rate adjustments, the single-piece rate for First Class Letter Mail will increase from 39 cents to 41 cents, and the Postcard rate will rise from 24 cents to 26 cents. Other increases are Priority Mail (up to one pound) will go from $4.05 to $4.60 and Express Mail (up to ½ a pound) will go from $14.40 to $16.25. For additional information on these new postal rates, and a thorough breakout of the classes and types of mail affected, please visit the US Postal Service website at: USPS.com/Ratecase.

3. It's time to renew your library material.
Faculty, Management Confidential, Emeritus and Professional staff who currently have borrowed library material from the Main, Music and/or the Science/Engineering Library, with a due date of May 15, 2007 are urged to renew at this time. The new due date, after properly renewing, will be Dec. 21, 2007.
For information on how to renew online via STARS/OPAC, please go to the URL.
To renew in person, please present your ID card to service desk staff. It is not necessary to bring the material into the library in order to have them renewed. There are no phone renewals. There is a three time renewal limit per book. Thank you.

2. Employee Assistance Program - America On The Move Returns
Step out into the summer weather beginning June 1st to July 13th for a FREE 6-week walking and healthy lifestyle program. 3. Blackboard Workshops during Intercession (5/21-5/23)
We will be offering Blackboard workshops during Intercession 5/21-5/23.
Monday 5/21 will be Blackboard basics day. We will have 3 sessions (with an hour break between each session. If you would like to use Blackboard this summer and need instruction, we hope you will be able to join us.
Tuesday 5/22 is dedicated to Online quizzes (10:30-12:30)
On Wednesday 5/23 , we will repeat our basic Blackboard workshop in the afternoon

Dr. Gerald W. Hart from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will present a lecture
entitled Dynamic Cycling of O-GlcNAc: Roles in Signaling, Transcription, Diabetes and
Alzheimer’s Disease on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the
Institute for Cell and Developmental Biology and the Department of Biochemistry and Cell
Biology, and will be hosted by Dr. William J. Lennarz. The lecture will be held in the Health

3. Neuroscience Seminar Series

3. Hip and Knee Pain Seminar
Seminar will include diagrams of the hip and knee with discussion of their normal anatomy, what can go wrong in either joint such as tendonitis, bursitis, synovitis, meniscal tears and osteoarthritis. Signs and symptoms of a problem, how to get a good diagnosis e.g., how to give a good history, x-rays with examples and the physical exam and what it tells us. Treatments for various problems are discussed including, diet, nutrition, exercise, medication, arthroscopy and hip and knee replacement surgery. There is also a question and answer period.

The Knights of Columbus is holding its Charity Gala on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Hyatt Wind Watch, Islandia, New York. Cocktails begin at 7:00 pm with dinner following at 8:00 pm. The event will honor Mr. Alfred Tisch, former Suffolk County Sheriff. Come join us at this wonderful event to benefit the Sunrise Fund and the Pediatric Oncology Program at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Tickets are $75 per person. 2. Tutor Volunteers Needed
Become a Volunteer Tutor
Tutor Volunteers Needed! The Stony Brook Adult Literacy Center is seeking volunteers to help adults learn to read, write, and/or speak English. Tutors meet with their learners two to three hours a week on campus or the Health Sciences Center. All you need is a high school diploma and a desire to help others. All tutors must attend a Tutor Training workshop which takes place on-site. We are now accepting registrations for our Fall Workshop. The workshop schedule is as follows: September 20, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 15 2007 from 5:15pm-8:15pm (must attend all sessions). Macromedia Flash is the professional standard for producing high-impact Web experiences. The focus is on creating animation for the Web. This course will guide students through the fundamentals of animation such as Flash drawing, story boarding, creating layers, key
framing, character animation, and creating interactive animation. Students will have a thorough understanding of Flash basics, plus the know-how to build Flash projects incorporating sound, interactivity, and engaging animations.
