2. Build and Decorate Gingerbread Houses for the Holidays
Come Celebrate the Holidays with a new family tradition, building and decorating your own Gingerbread House. Enjoy the holiday music and spend time with the ones you love as you build lasting family memories.
Houses cost $30 and include all the materials needed for a family of four. (Each additional family member is $3 per person.) Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Matt and Debra Cody Center.

4. Office of the Vice President for Research Early Closing
The Office of the Vice President for Research will be closing at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 18. The office will also be closed on Monday, December 24 and Monday, December 31. Please plan accordingly and have a happy holiday!

5. Health Insurance Option Transfer Period Ends December 14, 2007 for Hospital and LISVH State Employees.
The deadline is December 14, 2007 for state employees who are enrolled in the N.Y.S. Health Insurance Program to change their health insurance option, (from the Empire Plan to a HMO or from a HMO to the Empire Plan). December 14 is also the deadline to change from family coverage to individual or to cancel health insurance without a qualifying event under the Pre-tax Contribution Program rules.
If you wish to change your health insurance option, please contact the Benefits Office at 689-2970 to obtain a N.Y.S. Health Insurance Transaction Form PS-404, a Choices Guide for 2008, which summarizes the health insurance options for 2008, and the 2008 health insurance rates. You may visit the website below to view the Choices Guide for 2008 and the 2008 rates online. You may also download the PS-404 form from the web site below.

All classes will be held in the Lawson Training Room #797, Level One, right next to the Blue Elevators. To schedule for any of these classes please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, Ext. 4-7805. There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half will cover ordering from any of the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. I suggest that all new hospital employees and/or if you are interested in taking a refresher course, please contact us to attend one of these classes.

The Department of Teachning, Learning + Technology (TLT) at Stony Brook is offering a 2 day event for all faculty who are interested in learning about technology resources Stony Brook has to offer.
Last year, this event included workshops regarding TLT resources as well as Library Resources.

7. Study of HIV+/AIDS and ChromiumPicolinate
The General Clinical Research Center at StonyBrook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+or AIDS to research the effectiveness of ChromiumPicolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leadingto Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensationup to $2,050 plus transportation expenses.

2. When Science Creates Art
Dr. Thomas Cubaud, new professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, won the Gallery of Fluid Motion Award from the American Physical Society, Division of Fluid Dynamics (APS/DFD) in 2006 and 2007. Dr. Cubaud’s entries display small-scale multiphase flows in microfluidic devices. The Gallery of Fluid Motion selects winning entries based on scientific merit, originality, and artistry/aesthetic appeal.

SchoolPlus Enrichment Program in Stony Brook offers:
Mathematics - ages 5 - 15;
Physics - ages 9 - 15;
Russian language - ages 5 - 15, including Russian as a second language for children and
adults;
English Language - ages 9-15, advanced;
French Language - ages 5-15, all levels, including classes for native speakers;
Original Enrichment program for children 3-4 years old - separate classes for Russian and
English speaking children;
Art - ages 5 -15;
