1. Lotus Notes Vulnerability

A Lotus Notes security flaw has been discovered. The flaw is in the Lotus Notes File Attachments Viewer and can be exploited if a user opens an e-mail attachment with malicious code. We recommend not opening e-mail attachments from anyone you do not know, keep your virus definitions up to date, and consider upgrading to Lotus Notes release 7.0.3 which will be available on Softweb as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007. 2. Parking Fine Increase

Beginning November 1, 2007, in accordance with SUNY Regulations, a new schedule of parking fines will be in effect on campus. The goal of the increase is to ensure compliance, thereby improving traffic flow and making more space available for legal permit holders.

3. Employee Benefit Information Fair

The Benefits Section of Human Resource Services will host the Employee Benefit Information Fair on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in the Wang Center Lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please join us for a day of information, giveaways and raffles. Representatives from the health insurance plans, retirement plans, union benefits, Social Security Administration, EAP and health and wellness programs will be available to answer your questions and concerns. 2. Children with Cancer Go Back to School Conference

On Tuesday, November 6, the Department of Pediatric Oncology presents the Children with Cancer Go Back to School Conference at the Wang Center. This is a FREE, one-day conference for health care professionals and educators to educate participants regarding childhood cancer, effects of treatment, preparation for school re-entry, emerging technology and innovative distance learning for students with cancer.
Our special guest speaker will be, Yankees own, Ray Negron. Ray is the author of the children's book The Boy of Steel: A Baseball Dream Come True. When Ray was a teenager, he was caught spraying graffiti on the side of Yankee Stadium, and was put to work by Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Negron became a Yankee batboy, played minor league ball, and then went to work for the Yankees and the Cleveland Indians. He is now a special adviser to Steinbrenner.

There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half will cover ordering from any of the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. 5. EAP Lunchtime Learning - How Does Credit Affect Your Everyday Life Presented by American Debt Resources, Inc

This interactive workshop will address the necessity of having good credit and how it applies to more than just obtaining a loan or a credit card. We will discuss how to receive and read a free credit report from all three of the major credit bureaus. The tools will be given to you on how to track your spending patterns on a daily and monthly basis. When you use your credit cards we will address what are the right ways to charge and the correct ways to pay. We will discuss the psychological spending patterns of consumers and how your creditors target those patterns. All educational material will be provided for you at no cost to further assist you in obtaining and keeping good credit.

6. EAP Lunchtime Learning - How to Use Your Credit Cards Wisely During this Holiday Season,Presented by American Debt Resources

This workshop will cover how holiday spending and aggressive marketing can entice consumers to spend more than they can afford. We will discuss the psychological spending patterns of consumers during this time of the year and all year round.
The use of credit cards and their minimum monthly payment calculations are broken down to reveal the reason for the extremely long payoffs. We will discuss the tools for smart spending to understand that we sometimes have a false impression of what it will take to pay off these bills in a reasonable amount of time.
A real world exercise will be presented to enlighten consumers on how they feel when they use their credit cards compared to when they use cash. This workshop is accompanied with a handout of all the information that will be addressed.

2. Stony Brook Food Drive

Volunteers for Community Service, along with other departments and student groups, will be collecting essential food items that are needed for the families served by the Port Jefferson Food Pantry, Options for Community Living, and the Pax Christi Hospitality Center. Requested items include canned fruit/vegetables, rice, beans, tuna fish, pasta, soups, macaroni & cheese, breakfast foods, baby food and diapers. 7. African Children's Choir at Staller Center, Sunday, November 4 at 3:00. All tickets: $10.

A two-hour show for children age 8 and older. For 23 years, the African Children's Choir has brought hope to Africa's most vulnerable children. The relief, education and music programs support almost 8,000 children. 2. The SB Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center is seeking volunteers with heart failure to participate in its research studies.

DICE: If you have heart failure, you may be eligible to volunteer for a study that seeks to prove if a simple device that demonstrates heart function, similar to an ECG machine, can be used to predict how healthy you may remain.
