1. Input Requested - Rich Media Classroom Capture Systems
Teaching, Learning + Technology is exploring three different solutions for capturing video/audio/screen content, particularly in a lecture hall environment. A couple of faculty members have participated in trials using various different systems, and will be on hand to discuss both successes and shortcomings. Please join us to ask questions and let us know about any features that you would like included in the final product.

1. Clothing Bins Help the Cause Please Donate
Through its clothing recycling program, Breast Cancer Help, Inc. has placed a pink clothing bin on the grounds of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion opposite the entrance of the Carol Baldwin Breast Care Center. The proceeds from the bin will assist Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in its efforts in the fight against breast cancer. Breast Cancer Help, Inc., along with a grant from State Senator Caesar Trunzo, purchased the first digital mammography system on Long Island located at Stony Brook University Hospital. Please donate generously.

2. Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund’s Annual Celebrity Golf Outing
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund’s Annual Celebrity Golf Outing will take place on Monday, July 21 at the Nissequogue Golf Club. The festivities begin at 10:30 AM with Registration and Brunch followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 PM. The reception and awards dinner will begin at 5:30 PM. All monies raised from this event funds outstanding research and researchers at the Stony Brook University Medical Center. To date, the Fund has awarded more than 67 research grants totaling in excess of $3.3 million. For more information regarding sponsorships or golf registration go to our web site at

1. Summer Basketball Camps at Stony Brook University
Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 4 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys and girls ages 8-16. These four weeks are "Session I" Monday June 30-Friday July 3(There will be no camp Friday July 4th), "Session II" Monday July 7-Friday July 11, "Session III" Monday July 21-Friday July 25 and "Session IV" Monday July 28-Friday August 1st. All 4 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm. The cost of Session I will be $250 and the cost of Sessions II and II and IV will be $300. Any Stony Brook employee will be entitled to a discount. 1. Craft Center Summer Courses
Registration has begun for Arts & Leisure classes held at the Craft Center. Summer 2008 class offerings include: Digital Photo, Pottery on the Wheel, Ceramic Hand-building, Pastels, Watercolor Paining, Beaded Jewelry and Defensive Driving. Pre-registration is necessary. The Crafts Center classes are non-credit, low cost and open to the public. Gift certificates available.

2. Paper Clay handbuilding Classes
The combination of paper fibers and porcelain produces a clay body with amazing possibilities. Here is an opportunity for beginners and experienced students to create functional and/or sculptural pieces without concern for shrinking, cracking or warping. It’s true! Come see for yourself and find your own way with paper clay. $80/Student, $100/Non-student. Fee includes use of glazes, some firings and ceramic membership. 3. Basic Digital Camera Workshop
This course will help students understand their digital camera so that they can shoot more creatively. Students will learn about the basics and the most useful functions of their personal digital camera. The class will explore how to compose and adjust for optimal image quality and beauty via demonstrations, examples and hands on practice. Bring your camera and owner’s manual to class . 1. Study of HIV+/AIDS and Chromium Picolinate
The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+ or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensation up to $1,700 plus transportation expenses.

4. Seeking Volunteers With A History Of Asthma
18 to 65 years of age, 10 years smoke free taking a steroid inhaler daily for the past 6 months to participate in an 8 week study on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation on asthma. You will be taught mindfulness meditation techniques such as sitting meditation, body scan meditation, walking meditation. Compensation of up to $100 will be paid upon your completion of this study

Pregnant or Have a New Baby? Know someone who is?
You may be eligible for the Couple CARE for Parents program if you:
are not married and are expecting or have a new baby 3 months or younger!
This free program focuses on helping expectant or new parents keep their relationship healthy and strong through the stresses and demands of parenting. Topics include infant care, bonding with babies, effective couple communication, managing stress and conflict, and supporting one another.
The program is offered out of the comfort of your own home. A support person will come to you for 3 home visits and schedule 4 telephone support sessions as well. Scheduling is flexible and includes nights and weekends.

8. Research Study on First-Time Expectant Parents
Expecting your First Baby?
You may be eligible to participate in a study about your thoughts on becoming parents if you:

Participants will complete two questionnaires: one in your 3rd trimester and one when the baby is 3 months old. They ask about yourself, your relationship, and what you expect parenting to be like.

Researchers at Stony Brook University are looking for couples to participate in a RELATIONSHIP BEHAVIOR SURVEY.
Eligible couples will attend the research lab together for one session, and complete questionnaires and interviews.

10. Seeking volunteers for a study on work environment and health.
Researchers at Stony Brook University are conducting a study in collaboration with the Gallup organization to understand how work environment affects health. We are looking for volunteers for our study who are over 18 and work Monday through Friday, but do not work on the weekends. Involvement in the study is for less than one week and includes two trips to our campus office. Participants will be compensated up to $120. We now offer Camp Academies for children entering Kindergarten though grade 11 in the Fall 2008. Our special Camp Academies are designed to satisfy our campers with an interest in Art, Chess, Chess/Medical, Computers, GBA - Video Game Builders, Athletic/Medical, Acting, Sciences and Reading. 4. University Beverage Partnership Announcement
Stony Brook University is pleased to announce a ten year partnership with Pepsi for the exclusive beverage pouring rights at the University. This agreement will provide the campus with an exciting variety of beverages as well as significant support for student scholarships.
The awarding of this contract was the result of an extensive, formal bidding process that included a committee of campus professional staff, undergraduate and graduate students. Pepsi's bid was rated highest in a variety of criteria that included both financial return and other important issues to the University and the campus community.

7. SBU Celebrates Preservation of George Washington's Route Through CampusCommemorative Sign Being Unveiled at Historical Site
On Thursday June 26, 2008 at 12 Noon, President Shirley Strum Kenny, Professor Malcolm Bowman and guests will commemorate the preservation of Old Colonial Road on campus property by unveiling the cast historical sign located at the junction of Dogwood Drive and Mount Rd, Stony Brook. This location marks the passage of George Washington from Setauket to Huntington on April 23, 1790 through the old colonial highway on campus. We wish to preserve, protect and celebrate the most likely route America's first President took returning to Brooklyn after visiting Captain Austin Roe of the Setauket spy ring. Open to the public.
