01. Administrative

1. Travel in Proximity of Official Station or Home

Effective September 1, 2008 the following change has been made to the State Travel reimbursement policy. When an employee is assigned to work at an alternate work location which is less than 35 miles from their home or official station, the employee is not considered to be in travel status, but rather is considered to be traveling in proximity of their official station.
When travel is from an employee’s home to an alternate work location or from an alternate work location to home, at a minimum, transportation expenses must be reimbursed at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mileage rate using the lesser of:
1) Mileage between the employee’s home and the alternate work location, or
2) Mileage between the employee’s official station and the alternate work location

This August 20th, one-half day, morning (8:30A - 12noon) Workshop is intended for starting entrepreneurs and small business owners interested in funding through a federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant. Learn about collaborative partnering for success with regional research institutes. Learn about Long Island business incubators, and regional resources to develop your high technology business.

This support group meeting provides several presenters on the topic of the syndromes associated with sex chromosome aneuploidy. 3. Clothing Bins Help the Cause Please Donate

Through its clothing recycling program, Breast Cancer Help, Inc. has placed a pink clothing bin on the grounds of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion opposite the entrance of the Carol Baldwin Breast Care Center. The proceeds from the bin will assist Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in its efforts in the fight against breast cancer. Breast Cancer Help, Inc., along with a grant from State Senator Caesar Trunzo, purchased the first digital mammography system on Long Island located at Stony Brook University Hospital. Please donate generously.

4. Tackle Childhood Cancer on August 30th at 6 PM SBU Football vs. Colgate

The Pediatric Oncology Department, School of Health Technology and Management, and the Athletics Department are teaming up to raise money for the Sunrise Fund at Stony Brook. The Sunrise Fund raises awareness about childhood cancer and raises funds to support research and programs to benefit childhood cancer survivors and their families. On Saturday, August 30th at 6 PM the Stony Brook Seawolves take on the Colgate Raiders in a football game at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Support the Seawolves and, at the same time, help tackle childhood cancer by donating $2 when purchasing your ticket. The funds raised will help support Play Fit-Stay Fit!, a comprehensive wellness program that provides physical activity, nutritional education, and psychosocial counseling for childhood cancer survivors and their families. Opportunities to win prizes include items from the Giants, Lizards, and Stony Brook teams.. Fireworks will follow the game!

5. Flying Point 10K - Race for Autism Awareness

The Flying Point 10K for Autism Awareness is set for Sunday, September 21 at beautiful Flying Point Beach in Water Mill. This year, the race is part of Long Island Track & Field's Grand Prix Series, which makes it a draw for serious competitors across Long Island. Those who support the cause, but wish to participate in a less competitive way, may participate in the 2K Fun Walk on a beachside road. 10. Exploring Macromedia FLASH MX

Macromedia Flash is the standard for producing high-impact Web experiences. Focus is on creating Web animation. 2. Volunteers Needed - Individuals Suffering from IBS ages 18 and older

Mindfulness Meditation for the Treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how a 45-minute Mindfulness Meditation technique is associated with physiological and self-report outcomes in patients suffering from diarrhea predominant IBS.
Eligibility:
You may be eligible to participate if:
You are age 18 or older
Have been diagnosed with diarrhea-predominant IBS
Participation involves:
3 visits to Stony Brook University Psychological Center to fill out questionnaires and participate in training for a mindfulness meditation treatment for IBS symptoms
Monitoring of mood, stress and IBS symptoms for 6 weeks
Participation in a brief weekly telephone interview
Eligible participants may be compensated up to $25 upon completion.

The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+ or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensation up to $1,700 plus transportation expenses.

Discover the miles of woodland trails that run through the Stony Brook campus. Every Wednesday morning, Friends of the Ashley Schiff Park Preserve sponsor a fitness and nature study walk, beginning at the trailhead near the traffic circle on Circle Drive. 2. Math, Physics and Language classes for elementary and middle school students in StonyBrook University.

SchoolPlus Enrichment Program offers Mathematics for 5-15 years olds (10 levels); Physics for 10-15 y.o. (3 levels); Art for 6-15 y.o., Languages French 4 levels, including the preparation for the Regents exams, Second language Proficiency Exams and AP; - Russian for all levels, including Russian as a foreign language and English Advanced. We also offer the enrichment program for children 3-5 y. o.
Classes held on Sundays at Stony Brook University.
Teachers include the leading specialists from Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Lab.
The tuition is $16.50/45 minute class

Stony Brook Athletics provides quality overnight or full day sport programs directed by NCAA Division I college coaches. Each camper is given the opportunity to receive instruction from the top college players in the game today.
