Dr. Kenny invites all Stony Brook employees and students whose U.S. citizenship application process will be complete by late October to become United States citizens on campus at our fourth annual citizenship event. It will be held in the Wang Center Theater, at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 31.
If you are currently an applicant for United States citizenship who will complete your interview process by October 26, and would like to participate in the campus naturalization ceremony, please go to

3. Fire Safety Day

Stony Brook University Fire Marshal's office will be sponsoring the annual Campus Fire Safety Day on Tuesday September 16th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on the SAC Plaza. This event will include hands on fire extinguisher training, a smoke trailer, demonstrations by the MTA LIRR, the NYS DEC Forest Rangers,Suffolk County Fire Rescue K-9 unit and the mobile command post. 1. Topics in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Seminar

Please join us for a seminar by Professor Stephen Schwartz from the Atmospheric Sciences Division, Brookhaven National Laboratory. 3. New York Regional Support Group for Individuals with Klinefelter Syndrome and other Extra X and Y Chromosomal Conditions

September 21, 2008 - 9:30 am to 3:00 pm
Presenter: Rhoshel Lenroot, MD, National Institutes of Mental Health.
Location: The Wang Center, Stony Brook University
This support group meeting provides several presenters on the topic of the syndromes associated with sex chromosome aneuploidy. There will also be opportunities for groups of parents, and for affected adults to meet in support discussion groups. Beverages and a box lunch are included. 5. Writers Speak: Poet Molly Peacock at Southampton on September 10

Writers Speak Lecture Series
Molly Peacock, a poet and a creative nonfiction writer, reads from "The Second Blush," just out from W.W. Norton. Molly is the author of five other books of poetry, including "Cornucopia: New & Selected Poems." Among her other works are "How To Read A Poem" and "Start A Poetry Circle" and a memoir, "Paradise, Piece By Piece" (both published by Riverhead Penguin/McClelland & Stewart). She is the editor of a collection of creative non-fiction, "The Private I: Privacy in a Public World" (Graywolf) and the co-editor of "Poetry in Motion: One Hundred Poems from the Subways and Buses" (Norton).

3. Flying Point 10K - Race for Autism Awareness

The Flying Point 10K for Autism Awareness is set for Sunday, September 21 at beautiful Flying Point Beach in Water Mill. This year, the race is part of Long Island Track & Field's Grand Prix Series, which makes it a draw for serious competitors across Long Island. Those who support the cause, but wish to participate in a less competitive way, may participate in the 2K Fun Walk on a beachside road. 4. Concorso d'Eleganza III:Celebration of Italian Automotive Excellence and Beauty, Sunday, September 14, 10 am-1 pm. Lawn across from Sports Complex.

Center for Italian Studies' Concorso d’Eleganza III, Third Annual Celebration of Italian Automotive Excellence and Beauty: A display of art forms on wheels as a means of illustrating one form of Italian culture. 5. Exploring Macromedia FLASH MX

Macromedia Flash is the professional standard for producing high-impact Web experiences. Focus is on creating Web animation. 2. Research Study designed to determine the clinical efficacy of an anti-cellulite cream.

We are seeking females, 25 to 45 years of age, with a body mass index (BMI) of 19-24 to participate in a research study designed to determine the clinical efficacy of an anti-cellulite cream. This study is being conducted at BASF Beauty Care Solutions located at the Long Island High Technology Incubator at Stony Brook University . Participants will be compensated up to $200.00.

3. Study Of Hiv+/Aids And Chromium Picolinate

The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+ or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensation up to $1,700 plus transportation expenses.

4. Research Volunteers Needed - Mindfulness and IBS

Study Title: Mindfulness Meditation for the Treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how a 45-minute Mindfulness Meditation technique is associated with physiological and self-report outcomes in patients suffering from diarrhea predominant IBS.

2. Community Household Sharps Collection - Location Change

Stony Brook University Hospital has designated the Dental Care Center as its new drop-off site for community household sharps collection. There is no longer a drop-off site located at Suffolk Hall.
Long Island residents can place their used sharp object (needles, syringes, lancets, etc.) in a hard plastic container with a tight cap or lid, such as a plastic laundry detergent or bleach container. When the container is full, tightly cap the container and seal with heavy duty tape for added protection. Label the sharps containers with the words BIOHAZARD using a waterproof ink marker.
Residents may bring their appropriate sharps container to the Main Reception Desk at the Dental Care Center, located on the campus of Stony Brook University, South Drive, any workday Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. For further information call (631) 444-6783.

3. Part-Time Job Expo

The Part-Time Job Expo links students with on-campus (SB Students only) and off-campus job opportunities (SB & SUNY students). University departments offer work-study and student assistant positions. Off-campus employers, many of whom are accessible by bus, visit campus to hire students for part-time positions. The Expo will take place on 9/03/08 from 11AM-2PM, located in SAC Ballrooms A and B.
