1. Notice to State Employees who are members of the N.Y.S. Employees' Retirement System (ERS).
The N.Y.S. Employees' Retirement System has a new online interactive tool that allows members to get information regarding the Member Annual Statement, including service credit, loans, account balance and salary information; directions on correcting or changing beneficiary information; Frequently Asked Questions; and who to contact for more information.
In addition to visiting the web site, for more information members may also call the toll-free telephone number for ERS, which is 1-866-805-0990.

2. Procurement Office Moving to Research & Development Park
On Monday, November 17 the Stony Brook University Procurement Office will be moving from its current location in the Melville Library to Building 17 of the University’s new Research and Development Park. The Research and Development Park is located on the former Gyrodyne grounds, just west of Stony Brook Road and the University Campus.
During the relocation process the Procurement Office will be operating on a limited basis beginning at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 14 through Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Normal Procurement Office operations will resume at Building 17 in the Research and Development Park on Thursday, November 19. The Procurement Office telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses will all remain the same.

4. EAP Lunchtime Learning - The Challenges of Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's Disease or a Related Dementia
Caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia poses unique challenges for caregivers. Alzheimer's disease causes major change in the relationships between patient and family members. This workshop will provide an overview of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and will offer some tips to make everyday life a bit more manageable.

Dr. Rita Nezami will be presenting a paper at the writing program brown bag session on November 12th. The topic is "Bringing Visual Rhetoric to the Classroom." 10. Provost's Lectures on November 13 & 14
On Thursday, November 13, the Provost's Lecture Series will host Dr. Eric Lane, Distinguished Professor of Public Law and Public Service at Hofstra University School of Law. Professor Lane is a 1966 graduate of Stony Brook University, where he earned a M.A. in English and American Literature. Lane will speak on "How Our Constitutional Conscience Can Save Us From Ourselves" at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Auditorium.
Heidi Cullen, climate expert at the Weather Channel and senior research scientist with Climate Central at Princeton University, will speak on "Seeing the Climate, Believing the Change" on Friday, November 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the Humanities Building, Room 1006. This lecture is part of the Changing Climates, Changing Minds, joint conference by the Humanities Institute, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and the Philosophy Department, held November 12 - 14.

Discover Burma in an enchanting night with Kyaw Kyaw Naing and his family and friends. Naing is a master of the pat waing, a traditional Burmese drum-circle instrument comprised of 21 separately tuned drums surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped shell made of elaborately carved wood and decorated with gold leaf. The evening also features dance from Burma, melodies on the Burmese harp and poetry. A reception of traditional Burmese food follows.

3. Master bluesman Ray Bonneville at University Cafe Sunday Nov.23rd 7 PM
Ray Bonneville, a roaming "blues poet", and master guitarist will bring his "New Orleans-based" blues to the University Cafe in a special Sunday evening 7 PM show on November 23rd, co-sponsored by the
Long Island Blues Society.
He's a one man-band, backing story-telling vocals with a percussive guitar style, dramatic harmonica lines, and a foot that keeps the rock steady beat. Chris Smither is one of his many fans.

The University Art Gallery in the Staller Center for the Arts is presenting an exhibition of large-scale,shaped canvases, prints, pastels, and watercolors by Elizabeth Murray from November 4 - December 13, 2008. Elizabeth Murray's work has been exhibited and collected world-wide and she was honored with a major retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art in NYC in 2005. 2. Defensive Driving Program for UUP Members
A NYSUT sponsored Defensive Driving program is being offered on Monday and Tuesday, November 17 and 18, 2008 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM in the Wang Center Lecture Hall 1, for all UUP employees and their immediate family members. Cost is $30 per person, payable in advance. Checks should be made payable to "NYSUT Benefit Trust" and delivered to the UUP office, 104 Old Chemistry, Z=3475. Office hours are Monday thru Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. Receipt of your check reserves your place in class. Participants are usually entitled to a 10% discount on their automotive insurance. 3. Defensive Driving Class Begins 11/13
The Empire Safety Council Accident Prevention Workshop which emphasizes traffic safety awareness is proven to reduce both accidents and traffic citations. Save 10% on your auto insurance (liability and collision) and reduce up to four points on your driving record. This is a six hour course.

5. Subjects Wanted For A Study Of How Aspirin Affects Platelets
Seeking healthy males 18 - 60 years of age who are currently not taking aspirin or blood thinners, and who have no history of bleeding problems or stomach ulcers. Subjects will take a regular aspirin each day for one week. Blood draws will occur on three separate visits. Volunteers will be compensated $50.00

Researchers at Stony Brook University are looking for couples to participate in a relationship behavior survey.
Eligible couples will attend the research lab together for one session, and complete questionnaires and interviews.
