1. Staples Link Office Supply On-Line System
Faculty and staff members are reminded that the purchase of furniture through the Staples Link Office Supply On-line System, as contracted by the New York State Office of General Services, is strictly prohibited. All furniture orders must be submitted to the Procurement Office for best price sourcing.
Faculty and staff members are also reminded of their obligation to obtain best pricing, not most convenient ordering, when procuring goods from all vendors, including the Staples Link Office Supply On-Line System.
The Procurement Office is open every weekday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM to assist you with your best priced order needs for all goods and services.

2. IRS Mileage Rates Increase
The IRS has released new mileage rates effective July 1, 2008 for the second half of 2008. This applies to all Research Foundation, Stony Brook Foundation and State business travel. The reimbursment rate will be 58.5 cents per mile.
*For Research Foundation only, the mileage rate for moving expenses has increased from 19 cents to 27 cents per mile.

3. Announcing Direct Deposit Option for Employee Advances/Reimbursements made through Research Foundation Accounts Payable
The Research Foundation is pleased to announce the new ACH disbursement program, otherwise known as direct deposit, for the payment of travel advances and reimbursements. Any staff person requesting direct deposit for these types of payments must, according to Federal regulations, complete the ACH Payment Enrollment Form

1. Organizational Meeting for Stony Brook Google Earth Users Group
The first meeting of this new group is scheduled for July 29, 2008 at 3:00 pm in ESS, room 123. Google Earth has wide applications across disciplines ranging from Physical Sciences (Geosciences, Environmental) through Social Sciences (History, Economics), Mathematics (spatial and functional relationships), Engineering (Energy) and Computing to Medical Sciences (Epidemiology). Google Earth can offer standard Google Earth layers, third party layers and your own custom-created data to display on a map. It is easy to learn Google Earth without a steep learning curve. We will discuss: 1) How we can use Google Earth in our classrooms 2) Plans for future meetings of this group 3) Training workshops for faculty and students on the campus.

1. Clothing Bins Help the Cause Please Donate
Through its clothing recycling program, Breast Cancer Help, Inc. has placed a pink clothing bin on the grounds of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion opposite the entrance of the Carol Baldwin Breast Care Center. The proceeds from the bin will assist Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in its efforts in the fight against breast cancer. Breast Cancer Help, Inc., along with a grant from State Senator Caesar Trunzo, purchased the first digital mammography system on Long Island located at Stony Brook University Hospital. Please donate generously.

2. Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund’s Annual Celebrity Golf Outing
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund’s Annual Celebrity Golf Outing will take place on Monday, July 21 at the Nissequogue Golf Club. The festivities begin at 10:30 AM with Registration and Brunch followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 PM. The reception and awards dinner will begin at 5:30 PM. All monies raised from this event funds outstanding research and researchers at the Stony Brook University Medical Center. Registration has begun for Arts & Leisure classes held at the Craft Center. Summer 2008 class offerings include: Digital Photo, Pottery on the Wheel, Ceramic Hand-building, Pastels, Watercolor Paining, Beaded Jewelry and Defensive Driving. Pre-registration is necessary. 1. Study Of Hiv+/Aids And Chromium Picolinate
The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+ or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). Volunteers are offered compensation up to $1,700 plus transportation expenses.

2. Are You Overweight?
We are seeking individuals, both men and women, 25 to 45 years of age to participate in a research study looking at "Markers of Pre-Diabetes" in overweight people. This study is being conducted at the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Stony Brook University Medical Center . Participants will be compensated up to $750.00

3. Seeking Volunteers for a Study on Work Environment and Health
Researchers at Stony Brook University are conducting a study in collaboration with the Gallup organization to understand how work environment affects health. We are looking for volunteers for our study who are over 18 and work Monday through Friday, but do not work on the weekends. Involvement in the study is for less than one week and includes two trips to our campus office. Participants will be compensated up to $120. Our special Camp Academies are designed to satisfy our campers with an interest in Art, Chess, Chess/Medical, Computers, GBA - Video Game Builders, Athletic/Medical, Acting, Sciences and Reading. These programs will run for one-week intervals during the summer. The camper will receive instructional activities relating to his or her chosen topic. A hot lunch and snack will also be provided. Discover the miles of woodland trails that run through the Stony Brook campus. Every Wednesday morning, Friends of the Ashley Schiff Park Preserve sponsor a fitness and nature study walk, beginning at the trailhead near the traffic circle on Circle Drive.
