As of November 10, 2008 DHL announced plans to discontinue U.S. domestic air and ground express shipping services by the end of January, reduce staff dramatically and close more than 320 stations and all of its ground hubs in the U.S. They cannot guarantee overnight delivery past December 15, 2008. 3. Procurement Office Moved to Research & Development Park
On Monday, November 17 the Stony Brook University Procurement Office moved from its former location in the Melville Library to its new location in Building 17 of the University’s Research and Development Park. The Research and Development Park is located on the former Gyrodyne grounds, just west of Stony Brook Road and the University Campus. 7. And Justice For All-Diversity 101
December 12, 2008 9:00am 3:00pm
This full day program will provide participants with necessary information, resources, and guidance about Federal and State regulations; University policies around issues of discrimination; equal employment opportunity complaint resolution and diversity. It will clarify and communicate the roles, rights and responsibilities of supervisors, managers, employees and the Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action in these matters. The program will review appropriate methods for making referrals, the scope of confidentiality and the policy against retaliation. Through the use of case studies and other interactive exercises, this program will allow participants to explore and discuss dimensions of diversity and inclusion, approaches to managing diversity, the impact of stereotyping and bias in the workplace. Each participant will develop a personal action plan.
Target Audience: All employees, supervisors, managers.

1. Clothing Bins Help the Cause Please Donate
Through its clothing recycling program, Breast Cancer Help, Inc. has placed a pink clothing bin on the grounds of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion opposite the entrance of the Carol Baldwin Breast Care Center. The proceeds from the bin will assist Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in its efforts in the fight against breast cancer. Breast Cancer Help, Inc., along with a grant from State Senator Caesar Trunzo, purchased the first digital mammography system on Long Island located at Stony Brook University Hospital. Please donate generously.

2. Family Service League - Holiday Toy Drive
The Stony Brook University VISTA Program is coordinating a service project by partnering with the Family Service League (FSL). The organization identifies issues affecting under-served members of society, mobilizes resources, and designs programs to meet their needs. Parents who are struggling financially have the opportunity to shop, at no cost, for holiday gifts for their children in the FSL’s Holiday Boutique. In an effort to help alleviate the hardships of impoverished community members, Stony Brook community is welcome to support the gift donations that will go to Long Island children who need them the most.
If you are interested in donating gifts to the Boutique, please contact SB VISTA member, Taryn Kutujian, in the Career Center at 631-632-6812 or at tkutujia@notes.cc.sunysb.edu. Academic departments and/or faculty members are encouraged to work together on this project.

2. Wellness Center Winter Special
The Stony Brook University Wellness Center is pleased to announce our winter special for faculty and staff members. For just $30.00 faculty and staff can purchase a winter membership to the Wellness Center.

3. Stony Brook Opera to perform Dargomyzhsky's opera The Stone Guest on Tuesday, November 25
On Tuesday, November 25 at 8 pm, Stony Brook Opera will present Alexander Dargomyzhsky's opera Kammeny Gost (The Stone Guest) in the Recital Hall of the Staller Center. The opera will be semi-staged, with piano accompaniment, and sung in the original Russian language with projected titles in English. Dargomyzhsky's opera is one of the most important 19th-century Russian operas. The opera is a setting of Pushkin's "little tragedy" of the same name--his version of the Don Juan legend, inspired by Mozart's celebrated opera Don Giovanni. David Lawton will conduct the production, which he and Roza Tulyaganova have staged. Tickets are $10 general, $5 students and seniors, and are available at the Staller Center Box Office.

4. Canadian alternative-roots group Blackie and the Rodeo Kings at the University Cafe Sunday November 30th 2 PM
Each member of Canada's Blackie and the Rodeo Kings is an outstanding instrumentalist and songwriter with over thirty albums to their credit collectively.
Colin Linden,primarily a blues performer, has worked with Bruce Cockburn and Emmylou Harris. Stephen Fearing is well-established on the Canadian folk circuit. Tom Wilson comes from the alternative/eclectic world of bands like Junkhouse.

18 to 65 years of age, 10 years smoke free, taking a steroid inhaler daily for the past 6 months to participate in an 8 week study on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation on asthma

5. Subjects Wanted For A Study Of How Aspirin Affects Platelets
Seeking healthy males 18 - 60 years of age who are currently not taking aspirin or blood thinners, and who have no history of bleeding problems or stomach ulcers. Subjects will take a regular aspirin each day for one week. Blood draws will occur on three separate visits. Volunteers will be compensated $50.00
