2. Time to renew library material.
aculty, Management Confidential, Emeritus and Professional staff who currently have borrowed library material due December 23, 2008, from the Main, Music and/or the Science/Engineering Library, are urged to renew at this time. The new due date will be May 19, 2009. Items already renewed 3 times, must be returned and may then be checked out again.

To renew in person, please present your ID card to service desk staff. It is not necessary to bring the material into the library in order to have them renewed. Overdue material can not be renewed. There are no phone renewals. Thank you.

3. The Health Insurance Option Transfer Period Deadline For State Employees (Hospital & LISVH) Has Been Extended To January 5, 2009.
The 2009 state health insurance rates have been approved and were mailed by Albany to the home of NYSHIP enrollees recently. January 5, 2009 is the deadline to change from one health insurance plan to another and the deadline for employees to change from family coverage to individual or cancel coverage if they were unable to do so during the year due to the pre-tax contribution rules. To make a change, complete and return a NYS Health Insurance Transaction form (PS-404) to the Benefits Office before the deadline. If you are thinking about changing your health insurance plan, obtain a Choices for 2009 booklet, which summarizes the 2009 health insurance plans. The PS-404 form and Choices booklet may be obtained from the Benefits Office (45 Research Way, Suite 204, Tech Park, Zip=9212, from the Benefits display rack (HSC, Level 3, outside room 122), or online.

4. Procurement Office Holiday Closings and Completed Move
The Procurement Office, including Accounts Payable, Purchasing and Travel, will be closed on both Friday December 26, 2008 and January 2, 2009. Please plan your procurement needs accordingly.
The Procurement Office is now located in the University’s new Research and Development Park on Stony Brook Road, just west of the Campus. Follow signs for the Procurement Office posted at the Park entrance. The Procurement Office telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses all remain the same. The new address is:

PDAR is a Lotus Notes application that assists and facilitates the job creation, review, approval, posting and advertisement requisition process. This electronic format eliminates five paper forms (SUSB37, Position Description, Ad Request, Ad Text and the first page of the SUSB68).
After completing this interactive computer based training class, participants will be able to:
-Create and clone job requisitions/PDARs
-Create waiver forms
-Create advertisement requests
-Understand the uses of reclassification, promotion, increased duties, FAST TRACK
-Utilize the Employment Tracking System (ETS)

The Department of Teaching, Learning + Technology (TLT) (formerly known as Educational Technologies, Instructional Computing, and CELT) at Stony Brook is offering a 2 day event for all teaching faculty (Full time, lecturers & adjuncts) & graduate TA's who are interested in learning about teaching & technology resources Stony Brook has to offer.
Last year, this event not only included workshops regarding TLT resources, but we were fortunate that some librarians, faculty from CAS, CEAS, HSC, and Career center staff offered sessions as well!
We hope to increase participation this year.

The Seawolves Swimming and Diving Parents are organizing a raffle to raise money for the team.
Prizes range from $50 to $150, one prize per day during the month of April 2009. Winners to be determined by the New York State Lottery's Numbers (midday drawing).

Brooks Williams has been described as a "fret monster" who has to be seen to be believed as he explores blues and jazz with funky chords, walking bass lines and fiery riffs.
Beaucoup Blue is a Philadelphia based father and son duo who use six and twelves string guitars, slide guitar, dobro and their soulful voices to travel across genres from soul, R&B, jazz and country.
These performers all return by popular demand and will be sure to be joining one another for a great afternoon of on-stage jamming and musicianship.

2. Stony Brook Softball Winter Clinic Offered!
Stony Brook Staff and Players are holding winter clinics this January for players ages 8-17 yrs. old. The Premier Pitching Clinic will be held on Saturday, January 10 from 9:00a-12:00 in the ISC Arena. The cost is $80.00. A Hitting Clinic (9:00a-12:00) and Pitching Clinic(1:00-4:00p) will be offered on Saturday, January 24. The cost for each session is $80.00 or $140.00 if you sign up for both. A NYSUT sponsored Defensive Driving program is being offered on Saturday, January 10, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Wang Center Room 201, for all UUP employees and their immediate family members. Help us find out by volunteering for a completely non-invasive brain imaging study. All you have to do is watch videos and let us watch your brain using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)! 2. Study Of HIV+/AIDS And Chromium Picolinate
The General Clinical Research Center at StonyBrook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+or AIDS to research the effectiveness of ChromiumPicolinate in the treatment of complications of currentHIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leadingto Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution(HIV Lipodystrophy). 3. Do You Have Heart Failure?
Adults diagnosed with heart failure are invited to participate in a symptom monitoring study. The study is testing an educational method to help patients monitor their heart failure symptoms. If qualified to participate, questionnaires about your medical history, symptoms, self-care, and quality of life will be completed. Participants are followed for one year by telephone (15-20 minute interviews 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after enrollment). All participants will be given a weight scale to keep and a booklet on heart failure self-care. You will be paid $20 at both 6 and 12 months if you complete the telephone interviews. Researchers at Stony Brook University are looking for couples to participate in a relationship behavior survey.
Eligible couples will attend the research lab together for one session, and complete questionnaires and interviews.
Each person will:
