1. The School of Nursing Launches Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
Dr. Lenora McClean, Dean of the School of Nursing, would like to announce the launch of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. Applications are available online at:

The program will commence with its first class on June 2, 2008.
Application deadline is April 3, 2008

3. Principal Investigator Award Interface (PIAI) Training Sessions
For Projector Directors who are new to The Research Foundation’s Business System, or staff who’d like a better understanding of the Principal Investigator Award Interface (PIAI), the Office of Grants Management is offering 90-minute training sessions. The PIAI application is considered to be a superior and more user friendly information interface for inquiry only access, while Oracle is viewed primarily as a transaction processing system for the administrative departments that handle your financial transactions.
The sessions will be held on Thursday, March 27th and Friday, April 18th. Each will take place in the OVPR Conference Room, W5510 Frank Melville Library from 9:00-10:30 a.m.

8. FMLA and Medical Related Leaves Training for State and RF Employees
March 28, 2008 9:30am 12:00pm
What is FMLA? The first half of this workshop will provide participants with an understanding of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), in order to assist them with implementing this Federal Law. The second half of the workshop will address: State Time & Attendance guidelines, coordinating FMLA with other leave entitlements such as Sick Leave at Half Pay or Presidential Sick Leave, and will briefly review Maternity/Paternity Leave & the Leave Donation Program for State employees. The workshop will conclude with a brief overview of FMLA, disability and workers comp for RF employees.
Target Audience: VP Coordinators, Dept Heads, & Managers who are responsible for administering campus policies. HSC/WEST Campus employees only

1. In Celebration of Women's History Month Activities
Stained Glass Artist Hallie Richards Monroe--March 12, 12:40-2:10
A second generation artist, Monroe apprenticed in a small stained glass studio for two years when she was in high school. For twenty years she has been the sole proprietor of her own Stained Glass studio in Southampton. One of her current projects is working on the restoration of the 1893 painted windows of Southampton United Methodist Church. Hallie's work will be on display and she will also give a demonstration.

16. New Italian Youth
Italian American Youth Culture: Recent Reappraisals, is an afternoon conference which explores the changing image of Italian American Youth Culture. It begins by analyzing new perspectives in the representation and self-identity of women of Italian extraction, and how their roles manifest different traits than in the 80’ and the 90’s. It also looks at the evolution of the Guido stereotype, and considers how Italian are they, and why. Finally, the conference features a lecture on little known Italian American rappers, followed by a discussion with the group G Fella. With the participation of psychologist Donna Chirico, sociologist Donald Tricarico, and folklore expert Joseph Sciorra. Followed by a Q & A period. Open to the public, refreshments served. 5. The Chautauqua 2008 Short Courses for College and University Faculty and High School Teachers
After many years of support by the National Science Foundation, Professional Education Program-Outreach will continue its several years commitment to the Chautauqua Short Courses. This nation-wide faculty development program in natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and mathematics will operate independently on a fee basis this year and will offer eight courses. Three courses will be held at Stony Brook’s main campus on Long Island, three at Stony Brook’s mid-town Manhattan site, one in Washington D.C., and one in Beijing, China. Enrollment is limited to 24 participants only . Doctoral students planning to teach in colleges and universities are eligible to participate.

13. Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices
This is the standard CCNA preparation course. The principles of Architecture Layering (OSI's reference Model), Multiplexing and Encapsulation and IP addressing (subnetting) are discussed in detail. TCP/IP, IPX, PPP, ISDN and Frame Relay Protocols are covered. Network equipment such as repeaters, bridges, routers, hubs and switches are studied in detail. Interconnecting and configuring networking equipment, such as Cisco's 2500 and 2600 series routers, 1900 and 2900 catalysts switches are studied. The students will also learn how to design networks using VLANS on the above-mentioned equipment.
