2. Time to renew library material.

aculty, Management Confidential, Emeritus and Professional staff who currently have borrowed library material due December 23, 2008, from the Main, Music and/or the Science/Engineering Library, are urged to renew at this time. The new due date will be May 19, 2009. Items already renewed 3 times, must be returned and may then be checked out again.
For information on how to renew online via STARS/OPAC, please go to the URL.
To renew in person, please present your ID card to service desk staff. It is not necessary to bring the material into the library in order to have them renewed. Overdue material can not be renewed. There are no phone renewals. Thank you.

3. Procurement Office Holiday Closings and Completed Move

The Procurement Office, including Accounts Payable, Purchasing and Travel, will be closed on both Friday December 26, 2008 and January 2, 2009. Please plan your procurement needs accordingly.
The Procurement Office is now located in the University’s new Research and Development Park on Stony Brook Road, just west of the Campus. Follow signs for the Procurement Office posted at the Park entrance. The Procurement Office telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses all remain the same. The new address is:

1. Sweet Dreams - An Evening of Chocolate Indulgence to benefit the Cody Center

Join us for the 6th year of Sweet Dreams on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 6:00 PM. Watermill Caterers of Smithtown will once again host an evening filled with cocktails, poured champagne, caviar samplings, passed hors’doeuvres, and an exquisite buffet of carving stations. After the reception, guests will experience the delectable chocolate displays, each prepared by top Long Island restaurants and pastry chefs. Ballot boxes let you to vote for your favorite creation. Each display features tasting samples which can also be piled into a box to go available for only $20.
Individual tickets cost $125 and Sponsorship Packages are available at four levels. For tickets and information, please call 632-4466. Reserve early last year was a sell-out.

1. Stony Brook Softball Winter Clinics Offered!

Stony Brook Staff and Players are holding winter clinics this January for players ages 8-17 yrs. old. The Premier Pitching Clinic will be held on Saturday, January 10 from 9:00a-12:00 in the ISC Arena. The cost is $80.00. A Hitting Clinic (9:00a-12:00) and Pitching Clinic(1:00-4:00p) will be offered on Saturday, January 24. The cost for each session is $80.00 or $140.00 if you sign up for both. Create web graphics, from a simple logo to a sophisticated rollover or pop-up menu, with this user-friendly program from the leader in web design software applications. Fireworks writes the JavaScript required for complex web graphics,

11. Drawing and Painting Classes at the Craft Center

Drawing for the Beginner: If you can hold a pencil, you can learn to draw! To make your drawings look more realistic, you must first learn to quiet the dominant left side of the brain and let the creative right side take charge. No Experience required. Five Thurs, begins 2/12, 7-9pm.
Art of Painting: Begin to create paintings that are visually exciting. Experiment with mixed media, though acrylic as the primary medium is encouraged. Class will review fundamental painting techniques of color, plane, value, texture, and depth while painting directly from observation. For beginners and returning students. 18 to 65 years of age, 10 years smoke free, taking a steroid inhaler daily for the past 6 months to participate in an 8 week study on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation on asthma

7. Subjects Wanted For A Study Of How Aspirin Affects Platelets

Seeking healthy males 18 - 60 years of age who are currently not taking aspirin or blood thinners, and who have no history of bleeding problems or stomach ulcers. Subjects will take a regular aspirin each day for one week. Blood draws will occur on three separate visits. Volunteers will be compensated $50.00

2. Humanities Institute's Undergraduate Awards

Undergraduate Students majoring in any of the humanities, arts or lettered social sciences are encouraged to apply for the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook Undergraduate Awards.
