01. Administrative
1. Procurement Office Moving to Research & Development Park
On Monday, November 17 the Stony Brook University Procurement Office will be moving from its current location in the Melville Library to Building 17 of the University’s new Research and Development Park. The Research and Development Park is located on the former Gyrodyne grounds, just west of Stony Brook Road and the University Campus.
During the relocation process the Procurement Office will be operating on a limited basis beginning at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 14 through Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Normal Procurement Office operations will resume at Building 17 in the Research and Development Park on Thursday, November 19. The Procurement Office telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses will all remain the same. The new Procurement Office address will be:

5. EAP Lunchtime Learning - An Introduction to Kripalu Yoga and Guided Relaxation
This workshop will include a brief introduction to the benefits of yoga and meditation, including breathing techniques for stress reduction, simple stretches to release tension and dis-ease from the body and a guided relaxation at the end to allow for a more balanced body and mind. 13. And Justice For All And Diversity 101- Seats Are Limited
November 25, 2008 9:00am 3:00pm
This full day program will provide participants with necessary information, resources, and guidance about Federal and State regulations; University policies around issues of discrimination; equal employment opportunity complaint resolution and diversity. It will clarify and communicate the roles, rights and responsibilities of supervisors, managers, employees and the Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action in these matters. The program will review appropriate methods for making referrals, the scope of confidentiality and the policy against retaliation. Through the use of case studies and other interactive exercises, this program will allow participants to explore and discuss dimensions of diversity and inclusion, approaches to managing diversity, the impact of stereotyping and bias in the workplace. Each participant will develop a personal action plan.
Target Audience: All employees, supervisors, managers.

2. Stony Brook Opera to perform Dargomyzhsky's opera The Stone Guest on Tuesday, November 25
On Tuesday, November 25 at 8 pm, Stony Brook Opera will present Alexander Dargomyzhsky's opera Kammeny Gost (The Stone Guest) in the Recital Hall of the Staller Center. The opera will be semi-staged, with piano accompaniment, and sung in the original Russian language with projected titles in English. Dargomyzhsky's opera is one of the most important 19th-century Russian operas. The opera is a setting of Pushkin's "little tragedy" of the same name--his version of the Don Juan legend, inspired by Mozart's celebrated opera Don Giovanni. David Lawton will conduct the production, which he and Roza Tulyaganova have staged. Tickets are $10 general, $5 students and seniors, and are available at the Staller Center Box Office.

The University Art Gallery in the Staller Center for the Arts is presenting an exhibition of large-scale,shaped canvases, prints, pastels, and watercolors by Elizabeth Murray from November 4 - December 13, 2008. Elizabeth Murray's work has been exhibited and collected world-wide and she was honored with a major retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art in NYC in 2005. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Friday, 12-4pm, and Saturday, 7-9pm. Admission to the gallery is free. For further information, please call 632-7240.

Ray Bonneville, a roaming "blues poet", and master guitarist, will bring his "New Orleans-based" blues to the University Cafe in a special Sunday evening 7 PM show on November 23rd, co-sponsored by the Long Island Blues Society.

3. Study Of HIV+/AIDS And Chromium Picolinate
The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking volunteers 18 years of age and older with a diagnosis of HIV+ or AIDS to research the effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate in the treatment of complications of current HIV therapy including insulin resistance, (leading to Diabetes) and possibly body fat distribution (HIV Lipodystrophy). 5. Do You Have Heart Failure?
Adults diagnosed with heart failure are invited to participate in a symptom monitoring study. The study is testing an educational method to help patients monitor their heart failure symptoms. If qualified to participate, questionnaires about your medical history, symptoms, self-care, and quality of life will be completed. Participants are followed for one year by telephone (15-20 minute interviews 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after enrollment). All participants will be given a weight scale to keep and a booklet on heart failure self-care. You will be paid $20 at both 6 and 12 months if you complete the telephone interviews.
