5. Time to renew library books

Faculty, Management Confidential and Professional staff who currently have borrowed library material from the Main, Music and Science/Engineering Library, with a due date of 12/17/04 are urged to renew at this time. The new due date, after properly renewing, will be 5/18/05. Please remember that library material can only be renewed three times. For information on how to renew via STARS/OPAC, and other renewal information please go to the URL.
To renew in person, please present your ID card to service desk staff. It is not necessary to bring the material into the library in order to have them renewed. There are no phone renewals. Thank you.

3. The Hospital Benefits Office has a new location

The hospital Benefits Office has moved again. This time to 45 Research Way, Suite 204, Tech Park. Our new mailing address is Stony Brook University Hospital Benefits Office,45 Research Way, Suite 204, E. Setauket, NY 11733. 1. Lawson Requisition Training(HTNW27)- for Hospital Employees in the HSC-(9 am-12 pm) 12/21

This workshop is designed to take you through the process of entering various types of procurement requisitions in the Lawson system including: Entering, changing, and deleting Stores and Vendor requisitions; Adding another page of items; Adding Comments to a requisition; Checking for approvals; Finding a purchase order number for a requisition; Inquiring on a purchase order; Finding receipts for a purchase order; Inquiring on requisitions; Inquiring on a budget; and Blanket Order releases. All Lawson users must attend this course to obtain a user ID & password. To register for this program please complete the registration form on page 19 of the Corporate Education and Training Calendar and fax the form to 4-9806. This event will benefit the Matt and Debra Cody Center for Autism at Stony Brook University Hospital. Stony Brook Manhattan: Fee is $50.00 per person for SBU faculty and staff.
Hargrave was a co-founder of the Long Island wine region, planting the first Vitis Vinifera (European wine grapes) there in 1973. She has been a professional wine judge for the Los Angeles County Fair since 1996. Her extensive winemaking and judging experience give her a unique perspective on the factors that distinguish grapes grown under different conditions. This class will feature tastes of premium wines that highlight the differences between hot and cool regions. It will serve as an introduction to basic tasting techniques and explain why wines made from the same grape are often very different. We will also explore how different food flavors interact with the wines.

2. Colds and Flu

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine is conducting a one and one-half hour lecture on Thursday, December 16th between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. at their office located at 33 Research Way, East Setauket.
The lecture will focus on how to prevent colds and flu this winter and how to diminish their severity.
The use of vaccines and antiviral medications for the flu is discussed. Lifestyle practices, including nutrition, that promote health and shorten the duration of colds is also addressed.
With patients facing an overabundance of supplements and herbs marketed to treat and prevent colds and flu, the workshop offers research-based evaluations to assess safety and efficacy of the most common supplements and herbs.
The cost is $25.00 per person payable upon registration.

4. Elevated Lipids And Cholesterol Program

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be conducting four, two-hour group visits for patients with elevated lipids and cholesterol.
Participants are examined and evaluated individually to assess cardiovascular risk, nutrition, exercise and stress levels as well as to determine if their lipid management is optimal. The group visits review factors that contribute to cardiovascular risk and increasing levels of lipids and insulin and addresses how they can be decreased with whole foods, exercise and stress reduction. Also reviewed are genetic influences, indications for medications, their side effects profile as well as the most current evidence-based information on supplements and vitamins.
The series is scheduled for January 19th, 27th, February 2nd and 9th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 33 Research Way, Stony Brook Technology Park.
Most insurance plans are accepted with appropriate co-pay.

5. NetPlus Preparation

Networking Fundamentals is a general introduction to the full range of computer networking, from local-area network to wide-area network technology, using as hardware the computers built and studied in preceding sections. Troubleshooting and diagnosing instructor initiated "bugs" are essential elements of this section. Networking Fundamentals will prepare candidates to successfully complete the CompTIA Network+ examination.

6. Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices This Course Is The Standard Ccna Preparation Course.

The overall objective of the course is to cover all the topics required by the CCNA test. The principles of Architecture Layering (OSI's reference Model), Multiplexing and Encapsulation are discussed and IP addressing (subnetting) is discussed in detail. TCP/IP, IPX, PPP, ISDN and Frame Relay Protocols are covered. Network equipment such as repeaters, bridges, routers, hubs and switches are studied in detail. The students will also learn how to design networks using VLANS on the above-mentioned equipment.
Course length: 7 sessions.

Dr. Daniel O'Leary and Ms. Shiri Cohen from the University Marital Clinic are looking for couples to participate in a therapy study. If you are married or cohabitating with a partner, and one of you is currently feeling depressed, you may be eligible to receive a free, 5-week couples treatment to help you and your partner learn more about depression and ways to cope with the stress you may be facing. 2. Seeking volunteers for a study on sedation monitoring.

Volunteers Needed! Healthy volunteers, age 18-65 years old, needed for a study investigating a newly FDA approved sedation monitor.

3. Treatment Study for Children's Behavioral Control Problems

The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stony Brook University is conducting a study of treatment steps for children, ages 6 to 14, who have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder plus other behavioral control problems (aggression, explosiveness, low frustration tolerance, etc.). Eligible children receive free evaluation and study treatment, including medication and help with behavioral support strategies. The study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

4. Are You Depressed? We Can Help!

The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University is conducting up to a 6 month clinical trial involving medication with all participants and the addition of psychotherapy with some. Must be willing to travel up to two times a week for up to 3 months to the site and be available late afternoons/early evenings. If you have been feeling depressed (sad, down) most of the time for at least two years, you may be eligible to participate. All evaluations and treatments will be provided free of charge.
