3. New Deer Park Spring Water Cooler Service
Effective July 1, 2004, Stony Brook University has entered into an agreement with Deer Park Spring Water to provide water cooler service to all West Campus, University Hospital, and off-campus satellite offices.

4. Roadway Closure behind Administration Building from May 24, 2004 to June 6, 2004
Construction work associated with the Humanities Building Renovation Project will necessitate closing the Administration Building Loading Zone as well as the roadway and parking from the loading zone to the Humanities Building. Temporary H/C parking will be provided at the nearby meter spaces. Dates are subject to change as construction is weather dependent.

5. Faculty/Staff State Expense Reimbursement
As a cost-saving measure the Procurement Office has set a minimum threshold of $250.00 for State reimbursements to faculty and staff. If your request for reimbursement is for less than $250.00 you must bring your request (i.e. original receipt(s) and state purchase requisition with a brief justification of expenditure) to the Bursar's Office for immediate, on the spot reimbursement.
The following expenses can not be reimbursed at the Bursar's Office and should be submitted to the Procurement Office. The minimum reimbursement amount allowed is $50.00. If your expense receipts total less than $50.00 please retain your receipts for submission when the minimum is met.

6. West Campus and Hsc State Employees with Graduating Dependent Students
Unmarried dependent students, between the ages of 19-25, who graduate from an accredited secondary or preparatory school, college or other educational institution, may continue health insurance coverage up to 3 months (or to age 25, if that occurs sooner) following the end of the month in which course requirements for graduation are completed. The enrollee must provide the Benefits Department with a PS 404 and a letter from the school verifying that the dependent has graduated and the graduation date. The form and information may be obtained on the HRS website www.stonybrook.edu, follow the link to "Forms and Publications" and click on "Benefits", then Health Insurance Transaction Form(Non-Student Employees) PS 404 or, by calling the Benefits Office at 2-6165.

2. NYS CSEA Partnership for Education and Training
NYS CSEA Partnership for Education and Training
The NYS CSEA Partnership for Education and Training Program is now available. This tuition benefit program provides educational benefits to CSEA-represented State employees. Employees can apply for tuition vouchers that pay for tuition at over 140 participating schools which are listed in the catalog. Tuition reimbursement provides authorized tuition payments to students upon successful completion of coursework at accredited schools that do not accept vouchers.
The application period is from April 1, 2004-March 31, 2005. You can obtain a booklet in Human Resources, Administration Building, Room 390, or by emailing Patricia.Lore@stonybrook.edu with your name, department and campus zip, and a booklet will be sent to you through campus mail.

4. Tutor Training Workshop (Stony Brook Adult Literacy Center)
Are you interested in becoming a volunteer Tutor? The Stony Brook Adult Literacy Center is in need of volunteers to provide tutoring in basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing English). We provide tutoring services for adults who are at least 16 years of age and out of school, read and write at or below the sixth grade level, need to improve their basic English conversation skills and understanding of American culture.
Volunteers will attend a workshop here on campus that will prepare them for becoming a tutor.

3. The Emerson Quartet International Chamber Music Workshop
The Emerson Quartet International Chamber Music Workshop, June 3-4, 2004
Master Classes, Seminars, and Performance. Join the renowned Emerson String Quartet for an intensive, inside look at the preparation and performance of string quartet repertoire. Through a highly selective audition process, four young, talented quartets have been invited to participate in the Emerson Quartet master classes. Stimulating seminars given by today's leading arts figures and music historians are planned as an integral part of the daily coaching sessions. The quartet repertoire featured in the two-day program includes works of Brahms, Dvorak, Haydn, and Mendelssohn.
Master classes/seminars are free and open to the public. Available on a first-come, first-served basis; no tickets are required. All events take place in Staller Center Recital Hall.
Tickets for the June 4 concert are $25 general admission; $22 for senior citizens, faculty, and alumni; $12.50 for Stony Brook students and children 12 and under.

1. Philanthropic Partnership Creates the "Endless Wellness Children's Fund"
A new philanthropic partnership has been established between Stony Brook University Hospital and Christine Carlton, owner of T. Carlton's Studio and Spalon in St. James. This collaboration will allow the creation of the "Endless Wellness Children's Fund" to benefit children's services and programs at Stony Brook.
Stony Brook University Hospital receives twenty percent of the proceeds from sales of gift certificates in the University Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, as well as from special promotions on site. This state of the art salon offers beauty and wellness services for both men and women with special packages available for upcoming Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduation gifts.

The USB Cat Network works to humanely trap, neuter, vaccinate, and care for the many feral cats that live on campus. We have a some young cats captured on campus (no longer kittens) who are available to good homes. They are already vaccinated and spayed/neutered. The Seawolves Girls Lacrosse Clinics are designed specifically for girls and young women who want to take their game to the next level. 1. Osteoporosis: An Integrative Approach to Prevention and Management
The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine is conducting a series of three group visits focusing on the prevention and management of osteoporosis.
Participants are examined and evaluated individually to assess their risk of fracture and to determine if the bone loss management is optimal. The group visits review osteoporosis in an integrative, holistic fashion with focus on measures that may be added to conventional treatment such as nutrition with whole foods, supplements, yoga and exercise to improve hip and spine bone density. Conventional monitoring techniques and medical interventions with hormone replacement therapy and drugs are thoroughly reviewed and discussed
The three-part series will be held at 33 Research Way in Stony Brook Technology Park on Wednesdays, June 2, 9, and 16 between 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

1. Free Help For Mothers Of 2-3 Year Olds
The Point of Woods Laboratory and Parenting Clinic at Stony Brook University is seeking volunteers for a research study that offers free help for mothers who are having difficulty managing their challenging 2-3 year old toddlers. 2. Select - Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial.
SELECT is a research study being conducted to see if prostate cancer can be prevented.
Men who participate in this study will take two capsules a day. Some men will take only selenium or vitamin E and some will take both. Others will take a placebo (sugar capsule).
Participants will visit their local study site twice a year for at least seven years, and no more than twelve years. About 32,000 men will take part in this study.
Men free of prostate cancer who are age 55 or older may be able to take part in this study. African-American men may join at age 50 or older.
Taking part in SELECT may not help you directly. But we hope that the information learned from this study will benefit your sons, grandsons, and future generations.

A Trial of Zocor (an anti-cholesterol medication) to slow the Progression of Alzheimer's Disease. All eligible participants with mild-moderate AD would remain on their current AD treatments, while participating in this trial.

10. Did you ever wonder why some people get stressed out more easily than others?
Stress can affect the brain, heart, hormones, and mental performance.
We are looking for men and women, 18-50 years of age, to participate in a non-invasive study.
Participation in this protocol requires that volunteers be free on two consecutive weekdays including two hospital overnights
For example: Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon, or Tuesday night to Thursday afternoon
You will be free to pursue your normal activities after 4:15 pm, but you will need to be back for the overnight stay.
COMPENSATION: $200.00

13. Seeking Volunteers for a Cancer Study
We are seeking to identify new cancer markers in blood, tissue and body fluids. This may allow us to develop laboratory tests which can diagnose cancers earlier and/or identify patients who are at risk for a poor outcome and who may benefit from more aggressive therapy than is normally recommended.
