1. NYS Flex Spending Account (FSA) - Dependent Care Advantage Account & Health Care Spending Account - 2005 Open Enrollment

The NYS 2005 FSA open enrollment period begins September 27, 2004. The deadline for enrollment is November 10, 2004, and is strictly enforced. This program helps STATE employees save money when paying for health or dependent care expenses. A paperless application process allows employees to apply online at www.flexspend.state.ny.us or by calling 1-800-358-7202. EMPLOYEES CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE FSA MUST RE-ENROLL IF THEY WISH TO CONTINUE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS IN 2005.

2. Showcase Your School, Department, or Organization at Wolfstock 2004!

Last year over 3,500 people attended Homecoming. Reserve a table at the University Expo Center and have them visit you! Bring displays, interactive activities and information, have representatives on hand to answer questions, use this space however you want! Tables, table clothes, and chairs will be provided. 1. Rising Stars Talent Show

Sunrise Fund, in conjunction with the department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Stony Brook Hospital will be presenting "Rising Stars Talent Show", October 2, 2004 at 2pm in the Student Activities Center on Main Campus.The program is free,no tickets are needed, and seating is open. This program will feature children with cancer and blood disorders, as well as family members, staff and community members. Rising Stars provides an opportunity for these children to express themselves through theatre arts, while enhancing their sense of accomplishment, improve their self-esteem, and regain confidence. This workshop is designed to take you through the process of entering various types of procurement requisitions in the Lawson system including: Entering, changing, and deleting Stores and Vendor requisitions; Adding another page of items; Adding Comments to a requisition; Checking for approvals; Finding a purchase order number for a requisition; Inquiring on a purchase order; Finding receipts for a purchase order; Inquiring on requisitions; Inquiring on a budget; and Blanket Order releases. All Lawson users must attend this course to obtain a user ID & password. 4. Employee Assistance Program Lunchtime Learning Empty Nest Syndrome

The term empty nest syndrome refers to the time of adjustment for parents when their children leave home, especially when the last child leaves home. This time is typically associated with stress, anxiety, identity crisis and heartache. This workshop will look at the top issues and challenges in the empty nest years. It will also give information and resources to help couples through the empty nest passage.

Have you ever wondered why some people do better than others when confronting difficult life situations? Depression affects over 15 million Americans each year. The good news is that it's treatable. This workshop will focus on ways to reduce your risk of becoming depressed. 1. Long Island Offshore Wind Energy Presentation at the Marine Sciences Research Center

A 140 megawatt wind farm is proposed to be built three to six miles southwest of Robert Moses State Park. To learn about the economic, environmental, engineering, and public health facts and issues, as well as regulatory processes, the Marine Sciences Research Center will sponsor a special presentation by the Coalition of the Long Island Offshore Wind Initiative (LIOWI). LIOWI is a partnership of over thirty local and national groups working with the Long Island Power Authority on the Long Island Wind Project. Members of LIOWI will be available to answer questions after the presention. Wednesday, October 6, 7:00 p.m., Student Activities Center auditorium.

3. "Truth in Technologies 2004: RFID and Barcodes."

Stony Brook University Libraries and the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology will host a conference on October 20 in the Wang Center to provide a clear vision of the contentious issues arising between RFID and Bar Coding. This international event will include speakers from the user community who will clarify the issues dictating the implementation of RFID.
Registration Deadline for all is October 1, 2004. Thereafter late fees apply.

The Center for Biotechnology invites all qualified candidates to apply for the Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry certificate program. 2. Help Stem The Population Of Feral Cats On Campus

The SBU Cat Network works to humanely trap, neuter, vaccinate, and care for the many feral cats that live on campus. Capturing kittens at this time of year often means they can be socialized and placed in homes. Capturing older cats means they can be spayed/neutered to avoid the birth of more cats who must fend for themselves outside. 1. University Art Gallery in Staller Center to Feature Four Faculty Artists

Mixed media artworks by the four most recent faculty additions to Stony Brook University's Department of Art will be exhibited at the University Art Gallery in the Staller Center for the Arts from Tuesday, September 14 through Saturday, October 16. The exhibition entitled "Recent Visions" features works by Stephanie Dinkins, Christa Erickson, Grady Gerbracht, and Nobuho Nagasawa that include a wide range of materials, concepts, and artistic practices. Many pieces incorporate video, sound, digital imagery, unusual materials, and computer controls. University Art Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 4:00 pm, and Saturday, 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The Gallery will also be open for one hour before and during intermission for some Staller Center performances. A closing reception honoring the artists will be held on Saturday, October 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Admission is free. For information, call 631-632-7240.

3. Fun and Football at Wolfstock: A Homecoming Tradition on October 1 and 2!

The annual parade starts at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night with students showcasing their "Medieval Times" themed floats and banners. 1. Defensive Driving Class Offered in October

The Empire Safety Council Accident Prevention Workshop emphasizing traffic safety awareness, is proven to reduce both accidents and traffic citations. Your attitudes and behaviors affect the way you drive. Learn to be a defensive driver and save 10% on your auto insurance (liability and collision) and reduce up to four points on your driving record. This is a six hour course. Dreamweaver is the industry-standard website development software, supporting sophisticated functions such as JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and CSS. This course will cover topics such as basic page creation, layout tables, frames v. no frames, how to edit HTML, internal FTP capabilities, and how to manage workflow. 1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed

The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with these cancers, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

1. Domestic Student Health Insurance

September 30 is the last date to enroll for the optional health insurance plan. This plan is reasonably priced, and covers many medically necessary services, anywhere in the world. Any part time or full time domestic student is eligible, and dependents of students may also be covered at additional cost.
