Construction work associated with the Humanities Building Renovation Project will necessitate closing the Administration Building Loading Zone as well as the roadway and parking from the loading zone to the Humanities Building. Temporary H/C parking will be provided at the nearby meter spaces. Dates are subject to change as construction is weather dependent.

2. Staller Plaza Closure to Pedestrian Use from May 24, 2004 to December 24, 2004
Construction work associated with the Staller Plaza Renovation Project will necessitate closing of this area in order to create a tiered amphitheater and attractive and useable green space. Temporary signage will be provided. Dates are subject to change as construction is weather dependent.

3. Summer Hours SAC Post Office
Beginning May 31, 2004 through August 27, 2004 The SAC Post Office will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays ONLY from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Normal hours (Monday- Friday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) will resume on August 30, 2004.

5. Professional Employees Governance Elections
Online voting for the 2004 elections for the University Senate, the Arts and Science Senate, PEGBoard, Stony Brook representatives to the SUNY-wide Senate, and Faculty/Professional Employee seats on the FSA board is now open. Detailed instructions to access your ballot and vote via your Solar System account appear below. Balloting closes May 28 at 3 PM.

After signing on to your solarsystem account, click on "For Employees" menu. A light yellow colored menu tab will then show up labeled "Voting". Click on that to see the ballot. Make your selections and then press the "Place Vote!" button to submit your vote.

6. New Deer Park Spring Water Cooler Service
Effective July 1, 2004, Stony Brook University has entered into an agreement with Deer Park Spring Water to provide water cooler service to all West Campus, University Hospital, and off-campus satellite offices.

7. Duct Bank Construction near SAC and ECC from May 24, 2004 to June 16, 2004
A telephone duct bank to provide communication to the West Apartments (phase 2) will be installed from the ECC to the vicinity of SAC Circle. The rear area behind SAC will be closed periodically during this interval to allow for excavation. Temporary signage will be provided. Dates are subject to change as construction is weather dependent.

8. Blackboard Support
During the first week of school, most of the Blackboard support team will be at the Conference on Instructional Technology which is being held on campus.
We will have only 1 person handling all Blackboard requests.
If you haven't done so already, please submit your request for your Summer 2004 Blackboard account in order to ensure that your class is ready to go on June 1st.

9. Faculty/Staff State Expense Reimbursement
As a cost-saving measure the Procurement Office has set a minimum threshold of $250.00 for State reimbursements to faculty and staff. If your request for reimbursement is for less than $250.00 you must bring your request (i.e. original receipt(s) and state purchase requisition with a brief justification of expenditure) to the Bursar's Office for immediate, on the spot reimbursement.
The following expenses can not be reimbursed at the Bursar's Office and should be submitted to the Procurement Office. The minimum reimbursement amount allowed is $50.00. If your expense receipts total less than $50.00 please retain your receipts for submission when the minimum is met.

10. West Campus and HSC State Employees with Graduating Dependent Students
Unmarried dependent students, between the ages of 19-25, who graduate from an accredited secondary or preparatory school, college or other educational institution, may continue health insurance coverage up to 3 months (or to age 25, if that occurs sooner) following the end of the month in which course requirements for graduation are completed. The enrollee must provide the Benefits Department with a PS 404 and a letter from the school verifying that the dependent has graduated and the graduation date. The form and information may be obtained on the HRS website www.stonybrook.edu, follow the link to "Forms and Publications" and click on "Benefits", then Health Insurance Transaction Form(Non-Student Employees) PS 404 or, by calling the Benefits Office at 2-6165.

1. 2004 Stony Brook Girls Soccer Camp - July 19th to 23rd
The Stony Brook Women's Soccer Staff and Team would like to invite girls between the ages of 7 and 16 to their summer soccer camp. There will be two sessions that will run the week of July 19th to 23rd. The day session will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm for players between the ages of 7 to 16. The evening session will run from 4:30pm to 7:30pm for players between the ages of 11 and 16. We have three separate programs to meet the needs of players of all ages and abilities. The players will have two training sessions per day as well as one small-sided and one full-sided game, daily. The players will receive a camp T-shirt and an official SBU soccer ball. 2. Campus Recreation Coed Summer Softball League Now Forming
The Department of Campus Recreation Coed Summer Softball League is now forming. Registration Deadline is May 28th. League will run from June 7 - Aug. 5. Games will be played at 5:30pm & 6:45pm. Teams will consist of at least nine people (4 women minimum) on the field at all times. Registration Fee is $175.00/team. Games will be played on Tues/Thurs. 1. Osteoporosis: An Integrative Approach to Prevention and Management
The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine is conducting a series of three group visits focusing on the prevention and management of osteoporosis.
Participants are examined and evaluated individually to assess their risk of fracture and to determine if the bone loss management is optimal. The group visits review osteoporosis in an integrative, holistic fashion with focus on measures that may be added to conventional treatment such as nutrition with whole foods, supplements, yoga and exercise to improve hip and spine bone density. Conventional monitoring techniques and medical interventions with hormone replacement therapy and drugs are thoroughly reviewed and discussed
The three-part series will be held at 33 Research Way in Stony Brook Technology Park on Wednesdays, June 2, 9, and 16 between 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Tai-Chi is an ancient Chinese system of health exercises which can keep you youthful and vibrant throughout life. They are simple to practice and require no strength or athletic ability. 1. Does Your Child Have ADHD, Tic Disorder or Tourette Syndrome?
The ADHD/Tic Disorder Project at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at SUNY Stony Brook is conducting a study of children with ADHD and/or Tic Disorder/Tourette Syndrome. Children will receive a thorough diagnostic evaluation. A medication study is also available. There is no charge to families for these services. 2. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed
The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

3. Are You Depressed? We Can Help!
The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University is conducting up to a 6 month clinical trial involving medication with all participants and the addition of psychotherapy with some. Must be willing to travel up to two times a week for up to 3 months to the site and be available late afternoons/early evenings. If you have been feeling depressed (sad, down) most of the time for at least two years, you may be eligible to participate. All evaluations and treatments will be provided free of charge. 4. MRI Study of Flow in the Brain and Spine
Volunteers are needed to participate in an MRI study to investigate new methods for imaging flow patterns of blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spine. The goal of the study is to understand flow patterns in healthy individuals in order to compare these results with the abnormal flow patterns seen in individuals with diseases such as hydrocephalus and spinal cysts. For the current phase of studies, we are seeking healthy individuals with no previous history of head or spinal trauma, arachnoid or spinal cysts, hydrocephalus, brain tumors or any contraindication for an MRI exam. The study will involve 1 hour of your time and be completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. You will not be paid for this study.
