Construction work associated with the Humanities Building Renovation Project will necessitate closing the Administration Building Loading Zone as well as the roadway and parking from the loading zone to the Humanities Building. Temporary H/C parking will be provided at the nearby meter spaces. Dates are subject to change as construction is weather dependent.

1. National Hospital Week Activities

All employees are invited to National Hospital Week events.
Healthcare information will be offered, including blood pressure, glucose, osteoporosis screenings and others. Visit Tuesday, May 18, 11 am-2 pm at the Galleria, HSC, level 3 for screenings, displays, raffles, etc. A lunch cart will be available.
Screenings and displays are scheduled for Tech Park, 31 Research Way, on Friday, May 21, 11 am - 2 pm and at the center of the Smithhaven Mall, Wednesday, May 19, 10 am-7 pm for the public. Other activities include a blood drive, Wednesday, May 12, noon - 8 pm at the Blood Bank, level 5. Donations can also be made during Hospital Week, May 17-23. University Police will conduct safety checks for infant/child car seats, Tuesday, May 11, 7am - 11am at the Stony Brook Child Care Center. 1. Senior Art Show To Open At Stony Brook

As commencement draws near, Stony Brook University proudly presents its annual exhibition of works by senior art majors. This year's show will be on view at the University Art Gallery in the Staller Center for the Arts from Tuesday, April 27 through Wednesday, May 19.
The juried "Senior Show 2004" will include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, mixed media installations and works on paper, selected by faculty members of the Department of Art from among the best work of this year's graduating class.

2. Campus Recreation Coed Volleyball Tournament

The Department of Campus Recreation is now accepting registration for our one-day Coed Volleyball Tournament to be held on Tuesday, July 20th in the Pritchard Gymnasium. Teams will consist of at least six players (minimum 3 women) on the court at all times. Tournament will run from 5:15pm - 8:30pm. Registration Fee is $80.00/team. All games will be played in one night. Registration deadline is July 16th. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible participate. Stony Brook --- Enjoy outstanding performances by the Adult Chamber Music Workshop of the SBU Pre-College and Community Music Programs, sponsored by the Music Department at Stony Brook University. Works for strings, woodwinds, piano, and voice will be performed including compositions by Schumann, Meyerbeer, Bach, Hensel and more. 3. Osteoporosis: An Integrative Approach to Prevention and Management

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine is conducting a series of three group visits focusing on the prevention and management of osteoporosis.
Participants are examined and evaluated individually to assess their risk of fracture and to determine if the bone loss management is optimal. The group visits review osteoporosis in an integrative, holistic fashion with focus on measures that may be added to conventional treatment such as nutrition with whole foods, supplements, yoga and exercise to improve hip and spine bone density. Conventional monitoring techniques and medical interventions with hormone replacement therapy and drugs are thoroughly reviewed and discussed
The three-part series will be held at 33 Research Way in Stony Brook Technology Park on Wednesdays, June 2, 9, and 16 between 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

1. Free Help For Mothers Of 2-3 Year Olds

The Point of Woods Laboratory and Parenting Clinic at Stony Brook University is seeking volunteers for a research study that offers free help for mothers who are having difficulty managing their challenging 2-3 year old toddlers. 2. Select - Selenium And Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial.

SELECT is a research study being conducted to see if prostate cancer can be prevented.
Men who participate in this study will take two capsules a day. Some men will take only selenium or vitamin E and some will take both. Others will take a placebo (sugar capsule).
Participants will visit their local study site twice a year for at least seven years, and no more than twelve years. About 32,000 men will take part in this study.
Men free of prostate cancer who are age 55 or older may be able to take part in this study. African-American men may join at age 50 or older.
Taking part in SELECT may not help you directly. But we hope that the information learned from this study will benefit your sons, grandsons, and future generations.

3. Alzheimer's Disease Trial At SUNY Stony Brook

Study: A Trial of Simvastatin (Zocor) to Slow the Progression of Alzheimer's Disease Sponsored by: NIH through Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study

If you are in the first or second trimester of pregnancy, you may be eligible for a research study that is looking at different ways to manage stress and cope during pregnancy.

10. Did you ever wonder why some people get stressed out more easily than others?

Stress can affect the brain, heart, hormones, and mental performance.
We are looking for men and women, 18-50 years of age, to participate in a non-invasive study.
Participation in this protocol requires that volunteers be free on two consecutive week-days including two hospital overnights
For example: Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon, or Tuesday night to Thursday afternoon
You will be free to pursue your normal activities after 4:15 pm, but you will need to be back for the overnight stay.
COMPENSATION: $200.00

We are seeking to identify new cancer markers in blood, tissue and body fluids. This may allow us to develop laboratory tests which can diagnose cancers earlier and/or identify patients who are at risk for a poor outcome and who may benefit from more aggresive therapy than is normally recommended.

After 31 years of service Detective Jeanette Hotmer is retiring from SUNY Stony Brook Police Department.
