The deadline for Research Foundation and State employees on West Campus/HSC to submit a B140w tuition waiver form for consideration in the Fall semester is July 21, 2004. Please check the HRS website under News and Events for information about obtaining a waiver.

Since your mail file size is limited, you must constantly manage the documents in it. You should delete the mail you don't need and "archive" the mail that you may need access to again in the future. To learn how to do this attend the "Getting Organized With Lotus Notes" class.

Stony Brook will host a Conference on Biological Basis of Personality and Individual Differences, 8/13-15, here on campus. Seating is limited. Register by July 12th for discounts on the conference and hotels. Open to all.

1. Help Stem The Population Of Feral Cats On Campus
The SBU Cat Network works to humanely trap, neuter, vaccinate, and care for the many feral cats that live on campus. Capturing kittens at this time of year often means they can be socialized and placed in homes. Capturing older cats means they can be spayed/neutered to avoid the birth of more cats who must fend for themselves outside. 2. Faculty and Staff Welcome Wagon Volunteers for Opening 2004
Welcome Wagon Fall 2004, August 27, 2004
The Division of Campus Residences invites you to be a part of Welcome Wagon 2004
The Welcome Wagon program is designed to welcome the incoming class of first year students who will move onto campus on Friday, August 27, 2004 between 9 am and 3 pm. Over 300 student volunteers will welcome the first year students, answer their questions, and assist them in moving their belongings into the residence halls.
We are actively seeking the participation of faculty and staff in this effort. In the past, faculty and staff who have volunteered have been particularly helpful in answering questions and providing information to students, parents, and family members.
Faculty/Staff who wish to volunteer may select a location and number of hours they wish participate.

1. Defensive Driving Class Offered in July
The Empire Safety Council Accident Prevention Workshop emphasizing traffic safety awareness, which is proven to reduce both accidents and traffic citations. Your attitudes and behaviors affect the way you drive. Learn to be a defensive driver and save 10% on your auto insurance (liability and collision) and reduce up to four points on your driving record. This is a six hour course. Two Wednesdays, 7/14 and 7/21, 5:30pm - 8:30pm; Student Activities Center, room 303. Send two checks $18/student, $22/non-student (payable to SBU Crafts Center), and additional $13 per person materials fee (payable to K. O'Brien). Merck & Co. is conducting a clinical trial studying the safty and efficacy of an investigational medication for the prevention of prostate cancer. If you are a man over the age of 50, with a normal PSA test, consider participating in a 6-year research study. To date, 450 Stony Brook students /alumni have established accounts with our provider, Interfolio.com. Eighty-nine (89) faculty/staff have established writers' accounts to securely upload letters of reference. Interfolio also accepts letters via fax and mail.

2. Opening Of School Volunteers Fall 2004
Again, it is that time of year when we begin looking for Faculty/Staff/Student volunteers to Meet and Greet our new students during Experience Stony Brook Fall 2004 (Opening of School Activities). You can help with activities such as:
-New Student Orientation and Convocation
-Unsilenced Voices presentations
-Quad Olympics
-Saturday Night Fever Events
Below is the link to the Online Volunteer Sign-Up Form and full schedule list of all the Opening Activities. You can help out in as much events as you want as long as there are no time conflicts.
-When filling out your contact information, all fields are required except for "Department". You can chose between "Summer Address" or "Campus Address" . If you are a Returning Resident Student, you may be eligible to move-in early (Click "yes" for that question on the form). Returning Residents must also Sign-Up before Wednesday, July 7th for your request to be processed.

3. Become a Volunteer Tutor
Are you interested in becoming a volunteer Tutor? The Stony Brook Adult Literacy Center is in need of volunteers to provide tutoring in basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing English). We provide tutoring services for adults who are at least 16 years of age and out of school, read and write at or below the sixth grade level, need to improve their basic English conversation skills and understanding of American culture.
Volunteers will attend a workshop here on campus that will prepare them for becoming a tutor.
