2. Time to renew your library books - please!

Faculty, Emeritus, Professional and Management Confidential staff, who currently have borrowed library material from the Main, Music or Science/Engineering Library, with a due date of 5/18/05 are urged to renew at this time. Please remember that library material can only be renewed three times. Books are not renewed automatically by the library - you must renew on-line or come into the library. Once the books are billed as lost, you will not be able to renew on-line. Once the system recognizes that you owe $15.00, you will be unable to renew.

Professor Jian Wang from the Atmospheric Sciences Division, Brookhaven National Laboratory, will present a seminar entitled, "Aerosol Size Distribution and Refractive Index Measured at ARM SGP Site and their Application to Study Aerosol Direct Radiative Forcing" on Wednesday, May 4. Donate your used textbooks to help promote literacy worldwide! Your used books could rebuild schools in Sri Lanka destroyed by the tsunami and give the gift of education to a Sri Lankan child. 4. When He's Sixty-Four! Several artists to celebrate Bob Dylan's birthday at The University Cafe, May 24th, at 8 P.M.

Bob Dylan turns 64 on May 24th and the University Cafe celebrates his birthday with a Dylan song-circle concert featuring several artists performing Dylan's songs.
Featured are: Beaucoup Blue, a Philadelphia-based acoustic duo of father and son David and Adrian Mowry on six and twelve string guitars, slide guitar, dobro and vocals.
Caroline Doctorow, a Sag Harbor resident, who counts as her influences Mimi and Richard Farina, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton, and Bob Dylan.

The mysteries of deciphering a wine list will be unveiled in this interactive session with noted wine professional Cliff Batuello. Reading a wine label, communicating with the sommelier, and pairing your food and wine choices will be discussed. This will be a give-and-take session, anecdotal, with table-side "lab work." Cliff Batuello is the owner of a small vineyard in Cutchogue. He has worked in the wine industry for many years as both a sommelier and a marketing representative. Cliff is currently with Michael Skurnik Wines. Join us for this fun and informative evening.

3. Elevated Lipids & Cholesterol - An Integrative Approach To Optimize Levels

The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be conducting four, two-hour group visits for patients with elevated lipids and cholesterol.
Participants are examined and evaluated individually to assess cardiovascular risk, nutrition, exercise and stress levels as well as to determine if their lipid management is optimal. The group visits review factors that contribute to cardiovascular risk and increasing levels of lipids and insulin and addresses how they can be decreased with whole foods, exercise and stress reduction. Also reviewed are genetic influences, indications for medications, their side effects profile as well as the most current evidence-based information on supplements and vitamins.
The series is scheduled on May 25, June 1, 8, 15, 2005 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 33 Research Way, Stony Brook Technology Park.

1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed

The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

2. Are you or your partner depressed? Is it affecting your marriage/relationship? We can help!

Free Couples Therapy: Dr. Daniel O'Leary and Ms. Shiri Cohen from the University Marital Clinic are looking for depressed women and their husbands/partners to participate in a study on couples treatment for depression for the months of May through July. Eligible couples will receive a free, 5-week couples treatment to help both partners learn more about depression and ways to cope with the stress they may be facing. 1. Mania Screening Days

Does your child have bipolar cycles? Stony Brook Child Psychiatry's Mania Screening Days for Parents of young people between the ages of 10-17 will be held on May 19,20 and 21. There will be brief lectures on mania/bipolar disorder as it occurs in children. Parents will be given the opportunity to complete some questionnaires. JOHN STONE, MD: PHYSICIAN & POET
Dr. Stone will present prizes to the winners of the 2005 IMCS Creative Writing Competition and will read from his work.
Wednesday, May 4th 2005, 4pm, In the Atkins Center, Health Sciences Center Level 4
Judge of this year's writing contest, Dr. Stone is author of several poetry volumes including his latest, Music from Apartment 8; and an essay collection, In the Country of Hearts: Journeys in the Art of Medicine. He is coeditor of On Doctoring, the literature and medicine anthology presented to every US medical student. Professor of medicine (cardiology) emeritus at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Stone was for nineteen years director of admissions and associate dean at the school.

4. Job Opportunity - Provost's Liaison Management Trainee

The Provost's Liaison Management Trainee (1 year term with possible 1 year renewal) is open to Stony Brook graduates with a Bachelor's degree or higher. The position is responsible for all aspects of collecting requisitions for textbooks and course materials from faculty; for documenting bookstore performance in providing textbooks and course materials; and for updating, maintaining, and coordinating the University Bookstore web site. The position will involve extensive personal interactions with instructors throughout the year, maintaining current customer service databases, and providing full reports to senior staff at FSA and the Office of the Provost.
