The Friday October 14, 2005 workshop has been rescheduled to the spring 2006 calendar. "Lorry Werner, Working with homeless women with special needs" The Family Violence Education and Research Center has subsituted the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Following Natural Disasters in it's place. 4. Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Training
Statistics say one in five people have a disability. This is one minority group that any one of us could join at any given moment in our lives. Employees need to know their rights and responsibilities. Supervisors and managers should have some working knowledge of the ADA, which is a civil rights law, and know how best to serve employees with disabilities. Learn how and when to refer to the office of Disability Support Services.

Professor Michael G. Bosilovich from the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office, NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center, will present a seminar entitled, "Global Changes of Water Cycle Intensity," on Wednesday October 12. The one-hour seminar begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Marine Sciences Research Center, South Campus, Endeavour Hall 120. Light refreshments will be served. 2. International Symposium on Language and Communication; the Evolution of Language
The first Alice V. and David H. Morris International Symposium on Language and Communication which will draw eminent scientists from around the globe to Stony Brook University to discuss fundamental issues in, and implications of, current research in human language, will be held October 14-16, 2005 in the theatre of the Charles B. Wang Center.
Participants from a broad array of disciplines will gather to discuss the state of the art in research on the Evolution of Language. Fields represented include Anthropology, Archeology, Biology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Genetics, Linguistics, Psychology, and Sociology. The aim of this symposium is to act as a forum for interaction and discussion regarding findings at the interface of each of these fields, drawing on the unique perspective that each participant brings to the topic.

7. Exhibition: "From Migrant Alley to Home: Farmwork on Long Island's North Fork"
Main Library - Central Reading Room, October 10 - November 21
The exhibition "From Migrant Alley to Home: Farmwork on Long Island's North Fork" features reprints of photographs and documents from various Long Island archival collections, including an early 1960s Suffolk County map that details the many migrant work camps that existed as far west as Huntington. There are also three-dimensional artifacts such as tools from several working farms on the East End that still employ migrant labor. The exhibition is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and showcases artifacts rarely seen in museum exhibitions. It also includes many historic photographs of a migrant workers' camp in Cutchogue from the 1950s and recent photographs of workers in the fields by photographer Drew Harty.

8. President's Lecture Series Presents Author Tim O'Brien on October 20
Please join us on Thursday, October 20 at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Auditorium for the Fall 2005 President's Lecture Series featuring Tim O'Brien, author of the critically acclaimed novel, The Things They Carried. O'Brien is widely considered the pre-eminent novelist of the Vietnam War. A Purple Heart awardee, O'Brien will address his personal experiences, his reporting, and his writing in this stimulating presentation. He will sign copies of his latest book immediately following the lecture.

7. Canadian Folk Performers in Gordon Lightfoot Tribute at The University Cafe, October 30th at 2 P.M.
On October 30th at 2 P.M., The University Cafe's Sunday afternoon acoustic concert series will present Aengus Finnan, Jory Nash and Terry Tufts, three superb young performers from a new generation of Canadian songwriters. Finnan, a main stage performer at the Kerrville Festival, Nash, a songwriter in the style of Paul Simon and Tufts, a multi-talented instrumentalist and one of Canada's finest finger-style guitarists, join to perform the songs of Gordon Lightfoot. 8. Stress Management Workshops
The Division of Wellness and Chronic Illness in the Department of Family Medicine will be presenting a series of five workshops on stress management.
These workshops focus on meditation as a core experience for stress management. The group is introduced to several forms of meditation including breathing techniques, the stress relaxation response, mindfulness meditation, walking meditations, heart-centered meditations and others.
Other aspects of stress management discussed are sound nutrition, movement, sleep practices, time management and prioritization, awareness of thought patterns and related emotions.
Workshop dates are Wednesday, November 9, 16, 23, December 7, and 14, 2005 between 5:30 and 6:45 pm at 33 Research Way, East Setauket, NY.

The Cody Center, in collaboration with Brookhaven National Laboratory and the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Stony Brook University, is currently recruiting healthy, right-handed boys, ages 6-11 years, who are not on medication, to take part in a neuroimaging study.
The purpose of the study is to increase our understanding of how language is processed by the brain in the presence of Autism Spectrum Disorder by using an MRI technique called functional MRI (fMRI).
Compensation: $40.00 Gift Certificate to BORDERS Per Visit
The procedure does not involve any injections, use contrast material or radiation. MRI is considered a safe procedure in children.
