4. Employee Benefit Information Fair

5. International Travel Policy
This is a reminder that all students who travel abroad on University programs are required to complete all International Travel Policy (ITP) forms. Faculty traveling abroad with students on University programs are required to complete the two-page itinerary form. Faculty or staff traveling abroad on University business are strongly advised to complete all of the forms as well. They can be found on the International Academic Programs (IAP) website at www.stonybrook.edu/iap.
Permission is not required for student travel unless the country in question is on the State Department Travel Warning list which can be found at

02. Hosp/HSC Admin Announcements
1. October is National Physical Therapy Month
The Department of Physical Therapy will be hosting an informational table from 11:00-2:00 outside the HSC cafeteria on Oct. 20 and at the Tech Park cafeteria on Oct.27; topics will include: "Work Site Fitness", "Staying Fit after 50", Therapeutic Yoga, and information related to clinical diagnoses and departmental programs. In addition the department will be having a fund raiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. A 2006 calendar highlighting women over 50 practicing yoga will be available for a donation. All proceeds will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

1. Interpreting University Financial Reports
This workshop is a hands-on session reviewing the SUNY On-line system and your monthly state accounting reports (AES). Includes review and flow of data and how to compare this data between the "on-line real time" SUNY system and the AES reports.

A few weeks ago the registrar's office sent out notification to all faculty/staff regarding FERPA.
If you use Blackboard's Gradebook, you are not violating FERPA.

3. Lawson Training
Lawson Training to be held on 10/27/05 from 10am - 1pm, in the IT Training Room, (HSB-Library Computer Classroom - Room 3-133A) "For All Employees", to attend this class, please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, ext. 4-7805. there will be 2 parts covered in this class, one is for ordering from the Storeroom within the hospital, and the other is ordering from a outside Vendor. 4. Management Resource Tool Training
Are you responsible for overseeing your area's STATE and IFR financial information? If so, you would be a perfect candidate to use the SUNY Management Resource Tool (SMRT) web-based application. Learn how to manage your SUNY accounts with this integrated tool that generates account balance, month end, purchase order, payroll summary, and transaction detail reports.

This workshop is intended to assist IFR account managers in efficiently budgeting for and managing their IFR programs. The campus budgeting system and the SUNY WEB will be discussed and current available reports and the "on-line real time" SUNY system will be reviewed.

Professor Susanna Bauer from the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) will present a seminar entitled, "The Effect of Internally Versus Externally Mixed Aerosols on Aerosol Chemical Composition and Climate Forcing: An Investigation with the GISS Climate Model," on Wednesday, October 19. The one-hour seminar begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Marine Sciences Research Center, South Campus, Endeavour Hall 120. Light refreshments will be served. 6. President's Lecture Series Presents Author Tim O'Brien this Thursday
Please join us on Thursday, October 20 at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Auditorium for the Fall 2005 President's Lecture Series featuring Tim O'Brien, author of the critically acclaimed novel, The Things They Carried. O'Brien is widely considered the pre-eminent novelist of the Vietnam War. A Purple Heart awardee, O'Brien will address his personal experiences, his reporting, and his writing in this stimulating presentation. He will sign copies of his latest book immediately following the lecture.

"Younhee Paik: Ascending River," a one-person exhibition of recent work by Korean-born painter Younhee Paik, is on exhibition at the University Art Gallery in the Staller Center through Saturday, October 22. To take advantage of the Gallery's 24-foot high ceiling, Paik is presenting a site-specific installation that includes nine draped canvases that cascade down from the ceiling. Floor paintings covered with plexiglass and the sound of ocean waves help immerse the viewer in Paik's meditative environment. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12-4pm and Saturday, 7-9pm. 3. Canadian Folk Musician Garnet Rogers to perform at The University Cafe on Sunday, November 6th at 2 P.M.
The University Cafe continues its celebration of Canadian artists with a performance by Garnet Rogers on Sunday, November 6th at 2 P.M. This master Canadian musician began his career as the fiddle player in the band of his late brother, the legendary Stan Rogers. He has gone on to record ten solo CDs (last year's Shining Thing being his most recent) and is one of Canada's best known and most-acclaimed singer-songwriters. Garnet Rogers' performances are always memorable and his lyrics and melodies command your attention. He mixes beautifully-crafted love songs with powerful works of social commentary, brilliantly performed on a variety of guitars. His performances are always seasoned with his incredible humor and his quick wit.

1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed
The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

2. Are You Depressed? We Can Help!
The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University is conducting up to a 6 month clinical trial involving medication with all participants and the addition of psychotherapy with some. Must be willing to travel up to two times a week for up to 3 months to the site and be available late afternoons/early evenings. 3. fMRI and EEG Pilot Study
Volunteers are needed to participate in a pilot functional MRI and EEG study for the Assessment of Brain Language Activation. The goal of the study is to collect preliminary data to understand how the brain in healthy people processes written language and pictures. Our ultimate goal is to use the fMRI and EEG technologies, in conjunction with standard clinical testing, to track the rehabilitation process in stroke patients and to verify the utility of certain drug therapies in enhancing language rehabilitation.
We are seeking right-handed, healthy individuals with no contraindications for MRI & EEG. The study will involve 1 hour for the EEG and about 45 minutes for the fMRI scan. Both components are completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. Eligible participants will be given fifty US Dollars as monetary compensation for participation in this study.
