1. Web Procurement Training

SUNY Central Administration has created a new web-based Procurement system. All purchase requests using state, ifr and difr funds must be submitted using this new program. Mary Woodward from the Procurement department will be conducting training sessions in the ECC training room throughout the month of January. Please contact Mary Woodward at 632-9849 to schedule this mandatory training for your staff.

2. Lawson Training

Lawson Training Class to be held on 1-05/06 at 10am in the IT Training Room, (HSC-Library - Computer Classroom - Room 3-133A), "For All Hospital Employees", to attend this class Please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, ext. 4-7805. There will be 2 parts covered in this class, the first half is for ordering from the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. I suggest that all employees who are either new to Stony Brook or just would like a refresher course, please attend this class.

Movie originally aired on PBS June 2005 - Veteran correspondent John Merrow takes viewers behind the scenes of American higher education to experience college through the eyes of students, professors, and college administrators. Set on four different college campuses across the country- a private liberal arts college, a major state university, a regional public university, and a community college. Declining by Degrees examines both the promise and the peril in higher education today.

1. Nurse Aide Training Program

The Long Island State Veterans Home together with the Stony Brook University Hospital Clinical Education Dept will conduct a 6 week Nurses Aide Training Program beginning, Tuesday, January 17, 2006. To apply to this program, come to our Open House on Monday, January 9, 2006 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the East Pavilion Classroom. We will have on site interviews. 3. Introduction to Microsoft Excel: - NCE 314 - 5 sessions - Fee: $259

This introductory course demonstrates the power and ease that makes Microsoft Excel the most-widely used spreadsheet application for office and home financial planning. Accountants, office managers, budget managers, even the family financial planner, will benefit from learning the basics of Excel. Topics include: basics of spreadsheet design, entering data, editing, formatting and printing worksheets, and implementing formulae and functions. The course emphasizes hands-on exercises to reinforce lessons.

1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed

The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

2. 2006 Innovative Technology Development Program - Call for Applications

The Center for Biotechnology announces the 2006 Call for Applications to the Innovative Technology Development (ITD) Program. The ITD Program supports commercially promising, translational research in all areas of medical biotechnology, including research products, diagnostics, or therapeutics. Funding is available to faculty at SBU for translational research on the academic campus. Applications must provide matched funding from a New York State company, evidence for commercialization potential, and be consistent with the Centers mission of economic development in NYS. We encourage projects in collaboration with the Centers Applied Bioscience Laboratories (ABL) or Custom Microarray Facility (CMF).
Faculty or companies with interest or considering application, are strongly encouraged to contact Dr. Anil Dhundale, Director, Scientific Affairs(anil.dhundale@sunysb.edu, or 631-632-8443), prior to writing a full proposal. 3. Are you an overweight healthy non-smoker?

Are you an overweight healthy non-smoker?
We invite you to participate in a study of how your lungs work.
This study involves pulmonary function testing, followed by 2 days (about 4 hours on the first day and 2 hours on the second day) of chest imaging. We will be studying whether your weight is affecting the way your lungs clear things that you breathe in.
If you are interested and you are:
Overweight
Never smoked
Do not have a cough
Are not pregnant
Are over the age of 18
Please Call: 631-444-1776 and ask to speak to Dr. Daroowalla at Pulmonary division, about the lung study. You will be paid $25 for each day that you complete.* Please use the following chart to check whether you are eligible.
