In January, the State and The Research Foundation will be mailing your year-end W-2 statements to the address shown on your pay stub. Please verify that the correct address shows on your next pay stub. If an update is necessary, please login to the SOLAR system and go to "Address Information" under Personal Portfolio. There are further instructions on that page.
Use your Stony Brook ID number shown on your ID Card and your SOLAR password. If you don't have your SOLAR password, click "To Obtain Your SOLAR Password" link and follow the instructions.

How Does Credit Affect Your Everyday Life?
This interactive seminar will address the necessity of having good credit and how it applies to more than just obtaining a loan or a credit card. We will discuss how to receive and read a free credit report from all three of the major credit bureaus. The tools will be given to you on how to track your spending patterns on a daily and monthly basis. When you use your credit cards we will address what are the right ways to charge and the correct ways to pay. We will discuss the psychological spending patterns of consumers and how your creditors target those patterns. All educational material will be provided for you at no cost, to further assist you in obtaining and keeping good credit.

Professor Marco Carrera from the Climate Prediction Center, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will present a seminar entitled, "Downstream Weather Impacts Associated with Atmospheric Blocking Over the Northeast Pacific" on Wednesday, November 2. 1. Canadian Folk Musician Garnet Rogers to perform at The University Cafe on Sunday, November 6th at 2 P.M.

The University Cafe continues its celebration of Canadian artists with a performance by Garnet Rogers on Sunday, November 6th at 2 P.M. This master Canadian musician began his career as the fiddle player in the band of his late brother, the legendary Stan Rogers. He has gone on to record ten solo CDs (last year's Shining Thing being his most recent) and is one of Canada's best known and most-acclaimed singer-songwriters. Garnet Rogers' performances are always memorable and his lyrics and melodies command your attention. He mixes beautifully-crafted love songs with powerful works of social commentary, brilliantly performed on a variety of guitars. His performances are always seasoned with his incredible humor and his quick wit.
Admission is $ 20.00, with a $ 15.00 student ticket (with ID).

2. Korean Film Series on November 1, 9, & 15 Wang Center Theatre Free Admission to ALL

Tuesday, November 1, 7:00 p.m., Wang Center Theater A Moment to Remember (FILM)
In this heartwrenching Korean romantic drama, Su-jin (Son Yeh Jin) first meets Chol-su (Jung Woo Sung) at the convenience store and again when he is sent over to do some carpenter's work for her company's showroom. Their romance develops slowly. Su-jin is recovering from a failed romance with a married man. Chol-su was abandoned as a child and has lived his life alienated and alone. Su-jin is the first to fall in love, and asks Chol-su to get married. Soon Su-jin begins to become increasingly forgetful and learns that she has a rare form of early-onset dementia. As her memory deteriorates, Su-jin begins to lose her connection to Chol-su and her loved ones, and Chol-su learns what it really means to love. (Directed by John H. Lee, 2004)

In 1930's China, a young man wanders into a brothel and watches dancers re-enact a legend about a heroic female pirate as narrated by an old sea captain (Bud Spencer). A lake appears where he sees ancient pirate ships firing on a village. When the Emperor offers the pirate, Admiral Ching, a nobleman's title if he will stop pillaging, Ching's backers murder the pirate. In avenging her husband's death, Ching's widow becomes a pirate. The film's exotic music is by acclaimed Chinese classical composer Han Yong. U.S. premiere. Based on a true story, Marathon is about an autistic young man who, with the support of his mother, becomes a notable distance runner despite his intellectual handicap. Marathon honestly and poignantly depicts the hardships experienced by autistic people and their families.This is a powerful story conveying disability and the lack of tolerance society has for people who are different and how strong bonds overcome these obstacles. 6. Faculty Chamber Music Concert of the SBU Pre-College and Community Music Programs

The SBU Pre-College and Community Music Programs are pleased to announce an Evening of Chamber Music that will showcase our outstanding faculty, Friday, November 4 at 8pm in The Staller Center Recital hall. The concert will include music from the Baroque period through jazz and will also include choral singing by SBU Pre-College music students. 5. Defensive Driving Course for UUP Members and their immediate family members.

A NYSUT sponsored Defensive Driving program is being offered on Tuesday and Thursday, November 15 and 17, 2005 in the Wang Center Room 201 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for all UUP members and their immediate family members. Attendance at both classes is required. Cost is $25.00 per person. Checks should be made payable to "NYSUT Benefit Trust Fund" and delivered to the UUP office, 104 Old Chemistry, Z=3475. 1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Needed

The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

2. Are You Depressed? We Can Help!

The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University is conducting up to a 6 month clinical trial involving medication with all participants and the addition of psychotherapy with some. Must be willing to travel up to two times a week for up to 3 months to the site and be available late afternoons/early evenings. If you have been feeling depressed (sad, down) most of the time for at least two years, you may be eligible to participate. All evaluations and treatments will be provided free of charge. 3. fMRI and EEG Pilot Study

Volunteers are needed to participate in a pilot functional MRI and EEG study for the Assessment of Brain Language Activation. The goal of the study is to collect preliminary data to understand how the brain in healthy people processes written language and pictures. Our ultimate goal is to use the fMRI and EEG technologies, in conjunction with standard clinical testing, to track the rehabilitation process in stroke patients and to verify the utility of certain drug therapies in enhancing language rehabilitation.
We are seeking right-handed, healthy individuals with no contraindications for MRI & EEG. The study will involve 1 hour for the EEG and about 45 minutes for the fMRI scan. Both components are completely non-invasive. No injections will be given. Eligible participants will be given fifty US Dollars as monetary compensation for participation in this study.

5. Japan Center-Canon Essay Competition at Stony Brook University

The Japan Center at Stony Brook University and Canon USA organize an annual scholastic essay competition that promotes awareness and understanding of Japanese culture in the US.
