01. Administrative (dept moves/closes, employee info, Admin announcements)

1. Do you set-up conference calls?

Telecommunication and Networking (TeLNeT) has noticed an increased volume of conference calls being placed by the University Community and Hospital staff. Many of the conference calls are set up incorrectly when using AT&T, resulting in higher costs being passed on to the end user.
There are reference guides on the DoIT Web page (see link below) to better help you choose and setup the appropriate type conference call that will meet your needs. You can use the University's telephone system to connect all parties or AT&T Teleconference Services when you want all parties to call into a conference bridge.
TeLNeT will be happy to train you and your staff on the most efficient and cost effective way to set up a conference call. For additional information or to set up a training session call the Telephony Office at 632-9130.

6. Chinese Martial Arts Film Series 2005: Ashes of Time Tuesday, April 26, 3:30 p.m. Wang Center Theatre Free to all.

Evil East and Malicious West are friends—or are they? In the martial arts world of jianghu, nothing is certain, and nothing is forever. Loosely inspired by Jin Yong, the most popular Chinese novelist of the 20th century, Ashes of Time is less a swordplay adventure than a meditation on memory, inaction, and the cinematic image. The film features the award-winning director Wong Kar-wai (Chungking Express; In the Mood for Love), the maverick cinematographer Christopher Doyle, and an endless parade of grimy but fabulous Hong Kong stars. Bonus question: where is the Ashes of Time reference in Kill Bill? (Wong Kar-wai, 1994, 99 min., Cantonese with English subtitles)

11. Chuck Brodsky, writer/performer of songs about baseball, to appear at The University Cafe, Sunday May 1st at 2 P.M.

With the baseball season underway, The University Cafe presents Chuck Brodsky, a singer/songwriter who has specialized in songs about baseball figures (known and little-known). Whether the topic is Philadelphia Phillies player Richie Allen, or Eddie Klepp, the first white baseball player in the Negro Leagues, Brodsky's insights create vivid portraits. These songs (collected on his CD The Baseball Ballads) were the basis of three concerts he performed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Chuck Brodsky follows the story-telling path of writers like Bob Dylan, John Prine and Woody Guthrie. He moves from satire about contemporary culture ("Blow 'em Away," his well-known song about road range), to commentary about the loss of civil liberties ("Dangerous Times,") and powerful works of optimism ("We Are Each Other's Angels.")
Opening is Little Toby Walker.
