Sponsor a Shabbat in honor of a birthday or special simcha.
Your name will also appear on all related publicity as part of an elite group of donors who have helped to make Shabbat more accessible to our students.

Shabbat & Holiday Information...
Friday Evenings
Student-run worship services include traditional as well as alternative options - we welcome your input! Please join us for the service of your choice, followed by a delicious Shabbat dinner in Delancey Street. It’s a nice way to end a week with a relaxed evening of singing, good food, and friends. Service times change according to sunset - call Snyder Hillel Center at 632-6565 for exact times.
Saturday Mornings
Stony Brook Hebrew Congregation holds Orthodox worship services every week throughout the year in Union 249. Students, faculty and community members enjoy kiddush together after services - all are welcome!
Shabbaton Programs
Shabbatonim are held twice a month and feature a variety of different themes throughout the year, including such topics as Judaism and Science, Homecoming, The Great Latka vs Hamentashen Debate, Comedy Shop and Shabbat Across Stony Brook. Special guest speakers, songs and activities, traditional and alternative services, and special ethnic menus with meals on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon make these weekends truly memorable for everyone. Have an idea for a Shabbaton? - Please let us know!
High Holidays
Both Stony Brook Havurah and Stony Brook Hebrew Congregation offer a full range of services. For security at our services, admission tickets are required. For ticket ordering and information on services this year, please contact Lauren Scandariato at sonya.horowitz@stonybrook.edu.edu or call 632-6565.
Holiday Celebrations
Sukkot, Pesach, Shavuot, Hanukah, and Purim are all observed on campus. Consult the Hillel monthly on-line calendar for details of services and related programs.
Life Cycle Events
Life cycle events are beautifully celebrated in our campus community. These include bar and bat mitzvah, baby naming and brit milah, and weddings. In addition, there have been ‘belated bar and bat mitzvah’ for those who may never have participated in this ritual before. We are always prepared to help you explore ways in which Jewish life can be made more meaningful! |
