Diversity Calendar Program Eligibility Guidelines

Dear Event Coordinator(s):

The Committee to Celebrate Diversity welcomes your participation in the University’s Diversity Calendar Program. The goal of this program is to increase understanding and appreciation of the rich diversity represented within the Stony Brook community. The Committee makes one monetary award each month of $500 to the organization that sponsors the event that is most successful in supporting this goal. The winning program is then eligible for the Adam’s Diversity Program of the Year Award that is selected each May from among the monthly winners.

In order to have your event listed in an upcoming Diversity Calendar, and to be considered for the $500 Monthly Award, you should:

Complete a Calendar of Events Information Form that is available ONLY on the Internet at http://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/Pres/diversity.nsf. The form MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY no later than the 15th of the prior month. A typed hard copy of the electronic form also can be accepted;
Be approved to appear on the calendar; AND
Complete an Event Evaluation Form and supporting documents (including written feedback from participants, etc.); form must be submitted within one week of the conclusion of the event. Supporting documentation will greatly increase chances of winning.

The Committee will consider the following criteria in determining the recipient of the $500 Award:

Was the focus of the event consistent with the theme for the month?
Did the event attract individuals or members of groups other than the sponsoring group(s)?
Was the event planned collaboratively between multiple groups, departments or organizations?
Did the event represent the best effort to celebrate diversity?

The Committee will make its decision about the $500 Award based on available information. Please give careful consideration to the evaluation forms, and submit any additional materials you feel may be helpful to the Committee, including flyers, press releases and comments from participants.
